The UNofficial Super Pack Feedback Thread
My feelings about costume bits and the at io's being exclusive to these things.
D: Toss me a hai @DarkNat My Fify glory: Renzer Dark/Dark Corr., Renzro Dark/Dark Def., Amartasu Dark/Dark Scrap.Less important ones: Fire/Fire Blaster,Ice/Ice Blaster,Ele/Ele Brute, Mind/Storm Troll,Fire/Kin Corr.,Bots/FF MM., DB/Regen Scrap.
I'm trying to think of reasonable and polite way to express how absolutely horrible this idea is.
I'm failing, for the most part. Not because the idea isn't horrible, but because it's so horrible that it's really, really hard to be reasonable and polite.
A lot of this wouldn't be an issue if there weren't EXCLUSIVE items.
If you have to decide between "Cheap but random" and "Solidly priced but you get what you want" then a lot of the issues go away. Folks who enjoy blowing the mortgage in Vegas can enjoy their SuperPacks, the rest of us can grab the pieces we want.
I'm all for "Don't like it, ignore it and don't buy it." I think it's a good live and let live policy. But exclusivity is dangerous territory... you cut people off from content that normally goes through other channels when you do that.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Exclusivity combined with randomization basically transforms the Paragon Market into a lottery - with all that implies about taking advantage of psychology of gambling.
In short, no no no no no no!
Aren't there several European countries that would class this as gambaling?
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
Just an incidental tidbit of insight from an "Evil EA" entity. Not that I necessarily disagree with the idea of stuff being exclusive behind the random packs, just it's an interesting general aside with regards to the pay to win mentality and forum interactions.

Let's Dance!
Exclusive random items - NO. Otherwise - don't care one way or the other.
Making ATIOs and certain costume pieces exclusively obtainable via these packs is ... well, Lex Luthor puts it aptly.
I don't mind the idea of packs, but for exclusive stuff that you only have a chance to get? Unless the price of the pack is a steal, I dislike the idea.
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.

Please do not do this. It is a bad idea and sets a bad precedent.

To recap for those who aren't aware: Coming up in Issue 22 (? that was the impression I got) in the Paragon Market, CCG-style Super Packs, containing 5 random items. Mostly consumables, there will also be a chance to get some stuff limited to Super Packs, like pieces of a new costume set, as well as the Archetype IOs we've seen some stuff about. These packs are said to be on the inexpensive side, but no approximate price point was given (considering how ludicrously expensive the Wolf and German Shepherd pets are, one does have to wonder how they're defining "inexpensive").
How may I put this? Say, the Barbarian Belt, or CoT gloves. Same with the Archetype IOs. But to limit them to a random roll is a godawful idea. Please don't let this go live. |
Yay, verily, this idea doth SUCK!
Exclusive, Super Pack Only things in a choice of five random grab bag is an idea worse than removing Empyrean Merits from Lam/BAF and the 15 E-Merit barrier on certain Incarnate abilities combined and multiplied by the utter suck that is the Gunslinger/Saloon Strumpet split in the upcoming costume bundle.

Shadowy Presence - Absolutely, positively worse than playing a Kheldian... --Myrmydon
Fun with math:
Assuming 72 ATIO's (10 ATs, VEAT + HEAT, times 6), even if an ATIO were guaranteed in each pack, you would need to buy 50 packs to have a 50-50 chance of getting one specific ATIO.
They've said that they're going to be 'cheap' (although judging from the existing store, it's questionable what that means), but I don't think it's possible for them to be cheap enough to make up for those odds.
Even if they sold them at 50 PP (which is about as low as I can see those pancakes going), that's still 2500 points for a 50-50 chance.
LOL I love it.
But only because I got to listen to my lovely lady, fume that I was right. And i get a good laugh at all the people in the pay to win thread who were jacka$$es
Well back to virtual golf
2.16.2012 - Management Edit: I would encourage anyone reading this thread for the first time to please spend some time reviewing the final version of the super packs. They are considerably different from what was reacted to when this thread was initially posted.
Thanks!
