Just wondering whatever happened to the producer's letter. the last one we saw was in August. Are these being discontinued? Just curious is all.

Yeah, now that you mention it, I haven't seen one in a few months.

Then again, they've been neck deep in rolling out a new business model, releasing i21, and now working on whatever else is ahead.

Oh, the Pummit.

I've mention that several times in the last few months.

I think the devs are waiting for the Summit for Big Announcements, which leaves not much for a producer's letter beyond, "Still working on Alpha trials. Introducing some themed, seasonal trials. Ginormous weapon set coming up. Etc. etc."

Anyway, more disappointing to me is that the devs have been awfully quiet over the last year -- they rarely show up to interact with the plebes on the regular forum.

Honey, they're making guest appearances on U-stream every week. What more can they do?

To be fair it was nearly always just BaBs who was the one doing the talking on the dev digest.

Zwill isn't a developer.

*looks up* interact with us on the forum? Not everyone wants to watch Z sing show tunes. And not everyone can log into the stream while it's live. It's also easier to sift through posts in the dev digest than it is to sit through the inanities of the stream.

The nice thing about the forum is that it's not live -- you can reply minutes, even hours, after the OP ... and carry on a conversation.

You see ... the devs have, at their disposal, several tools for communicating with us. And some work better than others for different types of people. And, well, they haven't been active outside of the beta forums for ages. All I'm sayin' is that I miss it. No reason to get, ahem, up in my grills.

Honestly, I'm just surprised it lasted as long as it did.

I'm with you to a point.

I never saw the letters as anything more than a "PR stunt." They are nice but...what did they do?

Pat themselves (and us) on the back for launching issue # x and say, "we have lots of future stuff for you coming soon!"

What's the point of the letter? I think that is what is needed to be defined to go on further.

If they want to do 'big reveals' then do it through the letter; if they want to save the 'big reveals' for "meet and greets" like the one coming up tomorrow then do so.

If they just wanted to put out a letter that said the same thing, "we just released issue # x and we're glad everyone is excited because we are too!" then they could do that pretty easily I would say. Just change the issue # and "wa-la" you have a new letter to post every month.

It's to let us know what they're working on, and to give us a few hints about future content.

But that's the point I'm trying to make.

We already know what they are working on (future content (ie; Issue 23, and maybe 24, 25)); what we don't know is the specifics of that content.

The producer letter's, to my recollection, never said specifically what they are working on (unless it was already stated before the letter went out).

It's good to see Syanpse getting chatty about Stalker changes and some the philosophical shifts behind the changes.

Things like producers letters tend to go in and out of production. I feel like they keep us pretty well informed lately with the intrepid informers.

Would you rather them coding or posting?

Also Aribter Hawk and Synapse have been posting a lot since the Pummit.

Keep in mind until stuff is on the "allowed to be talked about list" from marketing there's nothing really a dev can come here and say other than "I'm working on stuff!!!!!!!!"

Depends. If it's whoever wrote the Market UI, then definitely posting.

LMAO, I see what you did there.

Yeah many folks used to rage against the Auction House UI. After seeing the Paragon Market UI (and I use the term UI looooosely for that monstrosity) I think we're all fine with the Auction House UI now.

I don't mind saying what's on my mind, but in this case I just don't see what people were up in arms about. When I first loaded up the Market, I was impressed. It was simple, easy enough to navigate, loaded up fast, and had a bunch of stuff to click on and buy. Did what it said on the tin. Nuff said.

But then I looked at the forums and saw a bunch of complaining.

Sure, some better sorting, organization and grayed-out Buy buttons would be nice. I won't argue that it's rough around the edges, but it's good for a first version. I think a lot of people were expecting a UI that was fully built into the game, like dialogue windows and WW's UIs. Sure, that would be nice, but come on, we're working with a seven year-old game here. A seven year-old game that is still better than the newer, slicker competition.

You can click and buy stuff just fine. Ya'll sound like a bunch of princesses.

Yes its ok for a first version. Shame its not the first version and instead one thats gone through alpha and beta testing iterations and been put live.

That's not really fair, by first version I meant first live version. :P

It's not a question of either posting or coding; that's a false dichotomy. I dunno about you, but I manage to shoot out a few Tweets about my work from time to time (generates a surprising amount of good will).

And ... two posts before yours, I noted how nice it is to see Synapse posting for the plebes.
