So, what's the point of having anything in this game besides the sewer trial, since that's almost the only thing people are doing most of the time?

I can't go down there, I hate sewers! They smell like poo gas!

Just because I'm a super hero doesn't mean I have to smell poo gas...

Hey Coyote Seven, wanna go down to the amusement park and try out the new bumper car ride? I hear there's cars shaped like those little clown fire engines.

Same thing can be said about people using the AE power level farms, TF's, Mothership raids, the old sewer runs, and begging for PL teams in PI.

The DfB is simply the newest flavor of the month to be run. In a few months interest will drop off just like it has with everything else and people will return to their old favorites or whatever the new fotm is.

I think this may be one time I have to disagree Forbin. The new tutorial content is fine for new players but until i see other option my plan for any new character i create is 4 straight DFB trials to get the buffs and hit about level 14 and then i will move on to other things. Those buffs do come in handy until i hit 22 and pick up my SO enhancers.

I KNOW some people are still using it into the 30s but honestly I don't see how that is faster than running TFs, etc. By level 12 or so I am lucky if I get enough xp from the trial to gain 2 level.. So I have to assume at some point it starts taking several runs to even get one. But if they are happy with it.. whatever.

Now if they add some new contacts with missions that don't involve locating the hospital on my mini map or riding the train to kings row.. I'll try those. Until then all my new toons spend time in the sewers.

[note please dont take this to mean I dislike the new contacts or their content. I think its great that they extended the tutorial to better prep new players on how the game work.. but I have 6 years in game. I don't need lessons at this point.]

The team I led on a hero tips run on Exalted last night would like to have a word with you. (Amazingly, the team actually filled up pretty fast within a couple minutes after I announced "Level 33 hero tips team has room for 7" in local broadcast and Exalted-United, and I had to turn a couple away due to lack of room.) It was amazing because it was on a Thursday night, fairly late.

And after that, I alted and quickly got onto someone else's tips team. So it isn't all just sewer trials after all.

The character I've been playing a lot lately, the Torch of Victory, has never been on a sewer trial in her life, but she did draw so many sewer missions early in her career that she actually has a special costume just for them.

Anecdote: earlier, I was answering questions on the Help channel on Union (legitimate questions get good answers, but things like "red sewers" are generally responded to by me with "purple chihuahuas"), and I happened to observe (on Help) that if all the people asking for sewer teams just queued using LFG, they would get on trials faster (honestly, when five people in the space of a minute ask if there are any blue side sewer teams forming, I have to wonder), and, naturally, I got shot down with "you queue for ages and don't get on a trial".

The mind boggles.

Not to trivialize the problem, but what's the point of starting yet another thread about it?

I can honestly say that I have never done a single trial, TF, SF, respec or anything else like them. Not once. Nor do I feel as though I have missed anything. Let them have their XP farms. It doesn't affect me one little bit.

The mind boggles.

The problem is if you queue, you'll launch as a team of 4.

Likewise if some one is forming a team of 8 up and you as person number 9/10 or 11 queue up you won't get a team till person 12 decides to join up.

Yeah. Same here.

The problem, I think, is that people have trained themselves and others to form teams before hitting the queue, and to get full teams of 8 to 'max out rewards'.

Honestly I'd just be happy if they included a 3rd option for the low levels. Really I'd be fine with something that just puts me to 5 and sends me to the hollows instead of hasheby/twinshot or Sewers. It actually does kind of make me miss the old city hall contacts since... they pretty much did exactly that >>

I usually get from 1 to 5 in the streets of Atlas. No trials, no missions, just a little rampage.

Yeah there's that, though you still have to do radio missions to get into the contact chain.

It's still a bit of a bottleneck.

I've never been on a TF that was over (successfully) in about 15 minutes.

---

I prefer to passively acquire teams. There was a time when that happened regularly without me doing anything, followed by a time when it happened regularly if I set my flag to 'Looking', followed by a long time of not getting many teams because rather than using the search all the erstwhile leaders seem to want to do is broadcast "Level x team LFM", or else expect you to have joined one of an array of arcane chat channels in order to LFM/LFT in an even more uselessly restrictive manner. The DfB allows me to passively acquire a team, if only for a brief mission. I would certainly like a larger variety of such trials.

YEAH! That's what rookies are for, to crawl around in the sewers, dig through dumpsters, and other messy stuff that seasoned veterans shouldn't be wasting their time on.

In all seriousness though, especially now that the starting content is mostly open-world stuff, if you are running in a team, it's sort of pointless to team up for it. In fact, if you do, you are going to finish the arcs before you qualify for the next set of arcs offered to you. The spawn sizes and difficulty can't auto-adjust (or be manually adjusted) like the old starting content.

This is one of the reasons that I was sort of disappointed to see them go to the open world format for the starting content. After reading the explanation from Second Measure laying out why this was done, I understand it, and I accept it, but I still don't really love the idea.

For low level teaming, the sewers or AE (not necessarily AE farms, but just AE in general) are really your only viable options. Once you get past the initial stuff and can start running radio missions in KR or newspapers in PO, that changes, but until then you're sorta stuck.

it's like we don't form our own teams anymore!

With so many alts I was usually run old sewers run till level 7-8 then exit to KR and do radios, then Hollows, back to KR just to do next bank mission, back to Hollows or to SC...
Now I do one new sewer trial to get to level 5+ and continue as usual in KR...
I don't like new starting missions, there are too may street hunts that I never liked, so I skip them.
I do prefer starting in Praetoria, but since the most of my friends stopped using Praetoria as starting place, I am force to use Atlas/Mercy and DFB.

I nowadays usually do them till level 14-16ish, to get th buff and get over the slow content, after that the "real" journey of my hero starts. And I find the DfB incredibly fun to play.

Let people play what they like to play(of course as long as they abide by the rules of the EULA etc), DfB is fun and has nice rewards. (imho of course)

I *love* the sewer trial. It's fast, fun and gives good boosts that remove the tedium from low level play.

I also haven't had any problems either joining or forming teams for Posi 1 and 2 recently so I don't see the problem with here. I even formed a Synapse team of 8 with no sewer trial interference. If I can form a team with no issues for a mind bogglingly bad TF like Synapse I see no detriment from the sewer trial.

(This is on Virtue in case you are wondering.)

In my mind the sewer trial is awesome and I haven't seen any detriment except we don't have to do the crappy King's Row stuff.
