Graphics "Flashing" Since Today's Patch

CoH has been running fine until the patch today. Now, as my character runs the screen will flashes either white or black depending on how bright the area is where I'm running. No changes to my PC and it worked perfectly this morning before the patch. Asking in global it appears some others are experiencing it too. Anyone know a work around for this issues?

Same here.
Installing the newest graphics driver fixed it.

Thanks, that did the trick. I got this graphics card about 6 weeks ago so I was sure it had the most up to date driver, but apparently they released a new one shortly after I got the new card.

I have the same problem and I do have the latest drivers :S problem continues :S

Ditto. Drivers are up to date, reinstalled anyway just to be sure. No success, 'flashing' continues. It's not all the time, but it's persistent enough to be annoying and it wasn't there before today..

I had a problem that sounds similar to this... a couple patches back.

Every water surface was flashing.

I had to take water off of the highest setting, and cleared right up.
Just one tick down worked.


City of Heroes was my first MMO, & my favorite computer game.

Reinstalled the drivers 2 times, doing the whole process and now it is working perfectly...

I too got the flashing with buildings being transparent.

For me it happened after i was in one of my sg bases using the editor, and attempted to exit to PI.

Upon trying to move the buildings became transparent & all npcs. were visible on a blue background, the client then crashed with multiple .pigg file errors.

Graphics drivers are up to date as of 2 days ago, but running the repair patcher seemed to work, that is until attempting to edit in the base again.

Since todays patch i've been getting 'map loading' please wait messages while entering the base via base portal or base tp'r.

Walls in the base and items in the base are not rendering until i'm almost on top of them now.

The biohazard symbols for everyone bug appears to be gone now, replaced with blank items in all of my bases.

With the multiple .pigg file errors it appears its not graphics cards, but more likely the memory leak is hitting harder, because the .pigg files are getting corrupted/lost and need to be re-patched for the game to run correctly.

It seems all 'objects' flicker and vanish for a moment, letting you only see the sky-box. Happening to me here too.

The base bug is a known issue that's been around for a while though.


Still here, even after all this time!

I am getting it too and it happens worst when I fly. I have counted up to ten people all dealing with the same issues, all different cards and drivers. Whatever they change I hope is corrected, the flashing has triggered a headache for me so I had to stop. Most time flashing games don't do it but the suddenly very fast flash this is does is causing it for me. Either way I hope this is fixed soon I want to play with my pretty costumes!

I too am having the same issue. Re-installed all the drivers and it didnt help. A number of folks on virtue are also having the issue.

I'm also getting gfx "flashing" or "flickering", it's hard on the eyes, almost makes the game unplayable when moving fast.

Important to note that my video card drivers are up-to-date, and I did not experience this prior to the patch.


My New Rig : Geforce 580 GTX, Core i7 950 @ 3.20 Ghz, 24GB RAM, 240GB SSD for OS, 60GB SSD for swap = Heaven.

I was having (had? I don't know) the issue today as of today's patch. Previously updated to the latest drivers for my ATI Radeon Mobility 4250 earlier this week. For some reason, Windows 7 refuses to acknowledge that the most recent drivers are the most recent drivers. When it started flickering, I switched back to the old drivers using Windows tools. The game ran flicker-less for about 30 minutes, then started misbehaving again.

Used Driver sweeper to clear out all drivers and did a fresh install of the latest using the Catalyst tool.

It appears to have worked. I was able to run around PI and First Ward without any flickering, but I'll run some more tests when I have the time tomorrow.

Getting the same thing since the patch.

Drivers are up to date. Nvidia gtx560 2 GB card

Horrible bright light flashing, distorted effects on reflection items (even turn the graphics down on water effects and reflections effects and no help), see through geometry in and out of bases.

Not sure what was done today, but this is virtually unplayable unless I want to chance a seizure at this point :P

Add me to the list of 'flashing screens.' Have not had any unusual probs till today's patch. I also noticed Redemption's picture on the Tip menu.

Actually glad to see this thread- I thought my card was maybe dying.

Same problem. ATI HD 5850, newest drivers. Tried turning off some of the Ultra mode bells and whistles, with no results. Didn't try messing with water, since it's...well...EVERYTHING flickering, but will try that alter.

EDIT: It happens ONLY in outdoor zones, and in instances using outdoor maps, like the Plague Carrier mission. Doesn't seem to be a prob in interiors and inside instances.


Things to remember:
-Common sense ain't;
-Overkill is the only kill;
-If someone asks if you're a god, run away.

I've got the same issue here. My drivers are up to date and when trying to get around, the models and architecture flickers.

Just posting to keep the thread active, and let others know I'm having an issue with this too.

add me to the list of people having this bug too.
very annoying, i noticed the faster you move the worse the flickering is, really really annoying.
whatever they did to break the game like this i hope they'll fix it so soon as possible as this is really detracting from the playability of the game now.

I've got it here, too. As the others have said, it started with the most recent patch.

I had this yesterday after the patch as well and am still having issues today after re-installing drivers twice and running the consistency check repair from the launcher..

It started again. Drivers were updated yesterday and that seemed to fix it, but it's back.GeoForce GTS 450

I've got it as well...

Drivers are up to date.
Ran repair, didn't help.
Happens mostly in outdoor zones.
Faster the movement, worse it gets.

Same issue. Persisted through full driver uninstall/DriverSweeper/driver reinstall. Sucks a lot.
