Quote:Being a VIP customer, if I want to make a character with what might be considered a "coveted name", but I've grabbed the name, play the character and at some point let it sit while I play an Alt..... If i'm paying, that's my prerogative. I reserve the right to come back to that character at anytime, as I'm paying. If I stop paying, give me a clear time-period I have until I have to re-subscribe before throwing my names back to the wild (6 months? 1 year?). The main point I'm making, is if I pay as a VIP and want to sit on a name until I come up with a concept, sit on a character I've used previously until such time I decide to use 'em again, that should be my choice.Either way, you'd still be unique. The fact that you've never run into someone with the same name but spelled differently, then odds are, you would have never run into someone with the same name spelled the same.
I like my main names. And I do like being the only one. What I don't like is becoming attached to a name, then go to a different server, and it's taken on a toon who probably hasn't seen the light of day in 2000 days, but I still can't have it. Or worse, on an account that is inactive altogether, but the name is still locked.
This wouldn't apply to Exalted (VIP only) but for free accounts on the other servers, I do think names should turn-over on a regular inactivity interval. -
I'm also getting gfx "flashing" or "flickering", it's hard on the eyes, almost makes the game unplayable when moving fast.
Important to note that my video card drivers are up-to-date, and I did not experience this prior to the patch. -

I managed to grab just about everything I was after, I'm enjoying making these up in the creator as I envisioned them. If I decide something doesn't work concept-wise, I'll definitely post on the NameWatch thread and give someone who really wants one of them the opportunity to pick them up.

I highly doubt the game will be around in its current incarnation 6 years from now. I don't think that will be a quote that will bite me like Bill Gates' "No one will ever need more than 64kb RAM."

Quote:Now, I don't know if the name had ever been 'purged' or if it was just never chosen to start with... But I decided to try and create a character concept I was toying with for a while. And I was shocked that the name was available.
Keysmith
In all the years of having Stalkers (and, heck, the plain Concealment power pool...) no one ever thought to take an obvious name for a breaking-and-entering type? (Or, in my character concept's case, teleporting-everywhere-and-anywhere type.)
I'm not sure if that means I'm creative or everyone else is being kind of silly... Makes me wonder how many people tried to take 'Locksmith' as a name.
I made a new character on a concept I was toying with a month or two ago and ended up finding the name I wanted right away "Boybot". Names are available, you just have to be creative and I find starting with a concept and working around that concept with vocabulary is a good way to get a name that fits like a glove. -
Lots of debate here. I'm curious how people feel about one player having 3 accounts with all slots opened up for Virtue, filling it with names they come up with and sitting on most of those names for upcoming concepts they'll make in the future. My feeling is, you pay for it... all power to you.
Once you stop paying for your account, you cease to be a customer receiving "the service". It's nice of the company to allow for a grace period of you returning, but after said grace period I really think they should just wipe your characters (level 50 or not). Two years is quite a long time as a grace period, and very fair IMO. If you want to ENSURE you keep your characters/names, keep a paid account! It's pretty simple. My computer went down for a while, but I kept my paid account to keep my assets... again it's a straightforward model. -
Quote:Brilliant idea Yogurt. Does anyone know who the moderators of these channels are? And I'd say 180 days would be good, if you haven't been on in 6 months, no reason to hold a slot in an active chat channel.I was wondering, if maybe the lead moderators of some of these full Global Channels could use the Global Channel Timeout Command to clear out inactive users. Maybe set it to "/chan_timeout <channel name> <365>" And just clear out people who haven't logged in in a year? This would probably make enough room for us who have been wanting to join these Global Chat Channel but couldn't do to the limit being reached. Just a thought

Quote:Oh, you mean the one in Atlas Park who was holding a costume contest, that you were participating in until right when they said they were going to announce the finalists and then you went off, in broadcast, to the effect of "Screw this, I am not going to be in a contest held by some idiot healer who is too stupid to take more than one attack". And then continuing on in broadcast on your little rant insulting them and once again trying to tell everyone how best to play "The Game According to Mondo"?
Then when people told you to stop acting like a "******", you got on your defensive martyr troll high horse by repeating, "Who is the ******, the person who expresses their opinion or the ****** who insults them for it?"... conveniently ignoring the fact that you were indeed insulting their opinion and play choices first?
Or was this yet another time?
Gee, can't imagine why you were called a troll...
I don't get it... I have an Emp Defender where one of his builds only has 1 maybe 2 attack powers. He's a support swiss army knife with that build. What's the big fricken deal? LOL -
Looks like all the TF or LFG channels are either full or private. I'm not having any luck.

When everyone is all-powerful no one is really a "threat". I don't bother RP'ing it.
Off topic, I for one wish there was a feeling of "risk" being a villain in the game. -
With the maturity level of most, I'd assume the only Airbending you'll find happening is a bunch of tools bending their farts in the Pocket D.

I'm in now. I rebooted, and then relaunched CoX (not through the NCSOFT Launcher). The patch finally downloaded and applied, and now I can get into a server.
My suspicion is that it is a Version conflict issue. If you don't get the patch, then the servers don't see your client as having the right version and thus deny the connect. -
Quote:If you look at the Properties for City of Heroes/Villains in the NCSOFT launcher it specifically says this game does not support patching through the launcher... so not sure how it helped you.One method I've heard that works is using the NCSoft Launcher to download the patch.

I'm having the same issue... can log in but the servers aren't accessible. -

Quote:The "Quit to character select" isn't really "Quit to character select."
It's "Log out to login screen, do not clear the password, log back in, select the same server, and do it all automatically without input from the player."
If there's a bit of lag server-side during the log out, the "log back in" step does not complete properly, and you end up with the "This account is already logged in" message with your password filled out. In other words, working as intended, if not as expected.
I'm not sure about the "bit of lag server-side"... It never works for me at all and my connection is quite solid and fast. -
Quote:I had similar issues on a lower level Safeguard mission, same problem, floating money bags, no visible mobs and not targetable. Was doing it solo on a scrapper with no AOE so I was pretty much up a creek on it. Only way out was to log-off. I reset and tried again, same problem. I'm guessing this is a significant and repeatable bug/problem with Safeguards since i19.Yeah this happened to us, too. Luckily we had someone with Fiery Aura, so we had them stand next to the floating money bags for like 5 minutes and something died and the mission completed.
Can anyone confirm doing a Safeguard and NOT having that problem? -
Looks like someone killed the main page on http://www.virtueverse.net/

I'm somewhat new to PvP builds, but interested in creating an Energy Melee Stalker that is tailored to some PvP goodness. I've been trying to do some research on two things:
1) Which secondary? Many people seem to say WP but I kind of like Regen, any thoughts here?
2) In terms of a build (I've started getting into Mids') are there any recos for either?
Many thanks

Garriott should have just went into space and skipped Tabula Rasa all together.
I doubt NCSoft has 28 million in liquid assets, which means they'll probably be able to pay him over time. I doubt it will have any affect on the game. If anything, they'll launch a whole slew of $9.99 emote packs. Hmmm, maybe they should launch a "Lord British" pack and we can all run around looking like a Medieval Times reject.
