Graphics "Flashing" Since Today's Patch

Posted

Same here since last patch. No add-ons and not using bats aura.

It is intermittent; can't reproduce it reliably, though it seems to be worst in PI and I can usually get that zone to flicker. As someone mentioned above, I see it only in outdoor zones and outdoor instanced missions.

The only fix I have been able to come up with is to shut the game down and restart it. So far that is a consistent fix for me, but it's annoying to have to do that every time I enter PI.

I'm curious as to whether the people who said that updating their drivers fixed it have truly not seen the problem since. Wondering whether the restart of the game fixed it for a while and were they just getting lucky missing the problem in its intermittency when they posted?

Finally -- a chance to use Shadowy Presence!

Running around PI is almost a guaranteed way to get the flashing to start for me. Once it starts though, it happens everywhere....outdoors, indoors, in missions, etc.

Ditto. In my case it started both times right after I ran the Signature arc...once redside and once blueside.

Logging out and back in fixed it. Typing /reloadgfx caused a lot of flashing for a few seconds which then went back to intermittent flashing but didn't fix it. Zoning, whether to a mish or a new zone did not fix it.

I believe that I am able to successfully replicate this bug on the live servers. I've decided to post this here so that others can test this and report it (I just bugged it myself).

While playing without the blinking, click on the super tab, click settings and then enter the SG color selection menu, click accept and the blinking should start almost immediately.

I've repeated this several times and without fail the blinking comes back regardless of how long or short I am playing without the blinking effect.

If you are so inclined, you might try this out and see if it has the same effect for you. If it does, bug it and maybe post your results to this forum.

Hopefully we can isolate this bug and provide enough testing to get it fixed asap.

I think you figured it out. I was experiencing absolutely no problem with this. I switched to a character who was in a supergroup. I changed her supergroup colors around so that they did not match her regular colors. I ran around and suddenly started experiencing the problem. Switching out of supergroup mode did not help.

Confirmed! Both times that I have had this problem crop up, I had entered SG settings to change the MOTD!

This surely seems to be at least one way to consistently reproduce this problem.

Also confirmed here as well, at least as a consistent means of immediate replication. I was able to force the issue when following these parameters, however, my experiences with the flashing/flickering were not limited to this alone.. I have still ended up with the distortion during a session while completely avoiding any SG alterations.. Good call out and catch though ! So far this seems to at least be a commonality amongst peeps.

I have not tested this on live, but was just on the test servers, and I can say it is definitely happening over there as well.

Logged in to a character & traveled to AP to pay the base rent... no flickering.
Paid rent... still no flickering.
Went in to SG settings to check my prestige balance... flickering began immediately upon exiting the SG settings screens.
Flickering occured during movement, not while standing still.
Have several screenies.
Where should I report/post them?

I'm getting this as well, damned annoying to say the least.

Thanks for the SG tip, I'll keep that one in mind. Hopefully it'll keep things close to playable untill someone pulls a finger and fixes this.

Very happy to hear this. I had this start happening on a laptop when the patch dropped, and then a desktop yesterday, although with the desktop a restart did fix it. Glad to hear whatever it is is on its way out.

That's great news because this has really curbed my CoH playing. It's nice to see my starting this thread lead to a fix!

I have to admit, I love it when I encounter a problem and find that it's already resear4ched and addressed.

Even though it doesn't really matter, mine started after creating a new SG and modifying options/color schemes as well.

There was mention in game that this may also be happening after opening other "full screen" windows such as Tailor or Enhancement/Training screens.

I've not tested it for myself, but it might be worth checking into.

I've only had the problem that one time, when I opened the Super Group window, clicked Settings, and went to the costume part. Training up, using the Tailor (Icon, Trainer, or Ms. Ugly in PD), and the Enhancement Screen all work just fine for me, and don't cause this issue.

Disabling the Aero feature of Windows Vista/7.

This seems to be a good fix, for now. No flashing since I've done this.

you don't even have to do that much. In the last week I've accepted SG invites on three characters. Immediately after accepting the invite the flashing started. In one case turning caused a flash about every 5 degrees of rotation and for every step the character took. Only cure in all cases was to exit the game and shut down my computer. Just exiting the game and restarting it had no effect at all.

I was about to post the same thing. No flashing since turning off Aero on my 3 Windows 7 machines.
