I'm just reminded of the fact that once you let something out on the net, it's there forever.

That's pretty cool.
Now it would be a cool to get a combat bet like that, with "groin tearing" moves like in Dead To Rights: Retribution.

I now have my hopes for a "Nature Dominion" MM primary - gimme a Bear to send into battle. I don't care if it's melee heavy, I'll make due.

That's a pretty cool doggie.

I'm not bothered by non-combat pets, other than as a nice Tech Demo, but if it means Animal Masterminds then it's all good. (if it also meant Bug Masterminds I'd sell my first born to get it, assuming you accept sarcastic 4 year olds in the store)

I wonder what the attack animations would look like on a wolf/dog combat pet. I'm sure everyone has seen an attack dog in action, animating realistic attacks like that would be pretty damn hard. I guess the wolf could be a psychic and use psychic blasts lol.

Just seeing pets running around Paragon, or people walking their dogs, will add massively to the game.

And will it only be used for player pets?

What will happen is that the dog will appear on "America's Got Talent" or some such.

The wolf looks very cool, but I am not big into non-combat pets. Now when in the game Jacob McCandles can say, "Dog!" and the bad guy gets torn up, THEN we have something!

Of course, much like what was done with shield defense, the work for a power set with different mechanics can made more palatable if that work is stretched over several projects.

First step is to create a "beast run" travel power for players.

Second is to create a four-legged pet.

Third may be to create a "beasties" villain group.

Next step is to create an "animal training" primary power set for masterminds.

And then the final step is to transform all characters into four-legged versions and turn the game into City of Kitties and Puppies.

(Caveat: OF COURSE the above is all speculation, except for the last one.)

I think what's important here is proof of concept. Making this be a "non-combat pet" was just about the simplest thing the Devs could have done to get some kind of dog-shaped critter into the game. Once they have this working well enough they may build on it to create "combat pets" and then maybe even eventually new "player character body models" if we're very lucky.

So even if you don't specifically care about non-combat pets this is a good development for everyone.

Absolutely. The wolf even looks cool.

I greatly enjoy and use the buff pets, but I don't use the non-combat pets. (Now, give that MecMan some Laser Eyes of Death and I will use it.) But I am very glad for the development and am happy for the non-combat pet lovers nonetheless.

And I agree, it is a good first step in a journey of some distance: today we shoot a chimp into space, tomorrow we land on the moon! Today a non-combat wolf, tomorrow Combat Pet Masterminds!

Hmmmm.... a moon zone with combat pets...
