Catalyst 11.9
Still freezes intermittently but not nearly as bad as before the 11.9 drivers. I wasn't having any frame rate issues with 11.3's but the game seems to be a bit smoother with 11.9. Still not happy with the freezing. especially during fights. But at least now they're fewer and far between.
This has to be locked down somehow, Fox.
Thanks for the headsup all! I also had problems with 11.5 (Win 7 64bit Ultimate, SP1, Radeon 4890 1Gb). I'll upgrade right away and hope that the problems are over!
I'm having issues still myself... I was running much older drivers (I can't remember what they were) for my Mobility Radeon 3870, and the only problem I had is I would crash occasionally while alt-tabbing. This isn't just with CoH though, almost any game I play, I can only do one 'instance' of launching it. (for example: I can start up CoH, play it fine, no crashing or anything normally, but if I hit "Exit Game" and at a later time started up a new CoH or other game, I would crash to a point I have to hard-reset my laptop.) Like I said, this isn't limited to just CoH, it happens with League of Legends every other game in the same fashion CoH crashes. Given, I updated my drivers because LoL was having problems that made it mostly unplayable since recent patches, but it still ran and I could technically play, just with a messed up UI. (The game ran fine, only the UI was borked.) I don't know if this is something wrong with my graphics card or the new drivers, but after reading most of these posts, I think it's just time to start looking into buying a new computer...likely a Desktop with nVidia...
Rachel, did you upgrade over the top of your existing drivers or did you uninstall the old drivers, reboot to safe mode and run Driver Sweeper to get rid of the leftover files, then reboot to normal windows and install the new drivers?
That is the generally recommended method for video driver installations.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I just installed them over the old ones. I thought I should have deleted first, it has been a while since I messed with drivers and such, so I forgot what exactly to do. What is the sweeper thing, is it a program I need to get from somewhere?
Edit: Found the Driver Sweeper program, but before I came back to check this thread, I just deleted the new drivers and installed back to my old drivers..I don't exactly care to play LoL lately anyways.
Well, the good news is that 11.9 seems stable as long as I never alt-TAB out of the game and avoid windowed mode. The bad news is that I usually crash very quickly as soon as I try to switch to another application (like Mids or Herostats ) and windowed mode crashes. Ah well, back to 11.4 for me...

I have a 6990 and been over 5 hours running alt-tabbing like a **** and without a single problem.
Installed these and it seems pretty good so far. No crashes or anything.
Ran missions and several iTrials without a single client freeze. Even with the 11.4 drivers i'd usually have one or two freezes if i didn't use /unloadgfx occasionally during an iTrial.
i5 system with 4gigs RAM, Win7 64bit, and a Sapphire Toxic 6950.
Seriously considering flashing the card's second BIOS with the 6970 version now that things are finally stable.

i make stuff...
Installed new drivers yesterday (but did not clean out the old ones), then proceeded to run a UG trial.
I had maybe half a dozen quick freezes, which is an improvement over the constant stuttering I'd become accustomed to on TFs and such. I also noticed that there was nearly no lag with my powers firing... love that.
Happy camper.

YUMMY Low-Hanging Fruit for BASE LUV
I upgraded a few days ago, but since I only solo didn't feel like posting yet. Friday night was the Praetorian Invasion on Justice. I again didn't team, but was in the middle of the fighting on my Rad/Dark Defender.
I didn't time how long the Invasion went on, but it was around 2 hours, then headed to Pocket D to get titles with everyone else.
Not a stutter, not a hitch, not a problem at all occurred. No noticeable lag either despite all of the characters, powers, enemies and f/x going on. Graphics settings are on the High side with several set to Ultra.
Looks like a keeper to me.
As always, I uninstalled, ran Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode, then reinstalled in normal Windows mode.

I've been running with 11.3 for a while now. I tried 11.5 when it came out, but it performed horribly on my system - constant stuttering making the game basically unplayable. I tried 11.9 to see if I got better performance. The performance is on par or better than 11.3 with my limited testing. And no stuttering, which is great, however there is one disappointing thing for me...
I often drop the maxfps to 30 or sometimes even lower when I'm not doing anything intensive - like marketeering, or respecing, or changing costumes etc. I do this to drop my CPU usage to single digits which quiets down my system - all my fans throttle down to lower speeds.
However, with 11.9 this isn't happening. The CPU usage for one of my CPU's stays at 100%. All the time when running CoH.
I've reverted back to 11.3 for now. My system is Win7 x64 with quad i7 with radeon 5850.
11.9 is very fine for me!
Been running it for the last couple days with zero problems.

Please buff Ice Control.
I played for hours last night and no problem. I saw an extremely brief Not Responding message for just a second (that was what it would do when it crashed before the new driver) but otherwise it was fine. Seem like the problem may be solved for real
Pro: No crashing with 11.9 so that is good... but i have experienced a lot of horrible drop of FPS at random times that didn't happened with the old 11.2 drivers... i guess I will be going back

So far, so good.
The only thing that doesn't want to seem to play nice all the time (and I'm trying to narrow down specifics) is alt-tabbing between two instances of the game. Alt-tab, pick the other game, click and you flip back to the first one.
I have noticed several new options in the CCC with 11.9, and I was wondering if I could have some advice.
In "days of yore" I was an NVidia fellow, and BillZBubba had a great guide on which settings to enable in the drivers vs. in game for best performance. I now have an ATI 5850 1G Radeon HD in a quad core i5 3.2 OC rig.
I have read the excellent guides by Je Saist and Hyperstrike about settings in game, but I am having trouble finding advice on what settings in the new drivers "play nice" with the game...
So.. My questions are:
Leave everything application controlled? and if so... what do I do with:
Morphological Filtering?
Filter- box, tent, edge detect..etc?
Tessellation?
Catalyst AI?
Enable Surface Format Optimization?
MipMap Detail Level?
I am getting 24-32 frames in the new shiny Atlas on Exalted with Vsync off, bloom and DOF off, but max everything else. Does that sound right?
Could enabling/disabling stuff in the CCC help?
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope I have not hijacked the thread, in my mind it did have to do with the 11.9 drivers since those options were new to me!
Any advice would be appreciated.

Is it just me?
I tried out 11.9 after things looked promising in this thread but after 2 blue screen crashes it's back to 11.3 for me
Running the game on HD 5800, Windows 7 64 bit, AMD Phenom II X4 965 Processor 3.4GHz, 1096MB RAM
WIn7x64, Sapphire HD 6870, 8GB, i5 quad.
Upgraded either Wednesday or Thursday after seeing this thread.
Only crashes I've had since were related to trying to salvage files off a dying external drive, so not video related. I'd have lockups on CoH prior, and like most everyone else, was on either 11.5 or 11.4 after trying 11.6 and getting the stutter of doom.
Did not driver clean this time, but I did after uninstalling 11.6 prior.
Sounds good. Time to grab and test.

Morphological: NO
Box (default)
Tesselation: AMD optimized
AI: Quality (enable surface checked)
Mipmap: Quality (default)
Vertical Refresh: Always on (off in game, I've had better luck this way)
AA: Adapative MS
Triple Buffering: ON (probably the only thing worth changing, as default is off).
Triple Buffering can make a big difference. If you don't do anything else, turn it on.

My one problem used to be that Alt+Tab would sometimes crash CoH, but since installing 11.9 I can Alt+Tab frequently without issue.
Yes.. I am running 1680x1050...thanks!
I will try Caulderone's settings and see if there is any change, positive or otherwise...
Thank you for the help....
