Yeah, there was a cross promotion deal with Aion and Guild Wars where you could get an emote in Guild Wars that displayed Aion wings on your character. I would be all for a GW2/CoH cross promotion, seeing as I'm a huge GW nerd and can't wait for GW2.

    Catalyst 11.9

Thanks for the headsup all! I also had problems with 11.5 (Win 7 64bit Ultimate, SP1, Radeon 4890 1Gb). I'll upgrade right away and hope that the problems are over!

Lots of space opera has no more basis in science than Lord of the Rings does. The whole superhero genre falls straight in the middle as well.
Just wanted to thank you for actually acknowledging that the Coldfire Trilogy is also scifi. I know it's not made superclear in plot summaries for the books, but her entire universe is based on science! Why don't people realize this, argh! I lost a fight on Wikipedia to get them classed as scifi because the head of the Novels project "didn't see it." :|

I was wondering about Mind/Thorns as well, as that's my main permadom. Would that be viable?

Congrats on pulling this off, Fiery. I bow to your uberness!

Throwing in another vote for this one. I try to run it on every villain I roll. It's just so well written and the background it adds is great. I think it's one of my favorites ingame. I also love Doc Buzzsaw's arc because she's so crazily fun, if rather different in emotional tone than "Oh, Wretched Man."

    Titan Waterworks

Why's there no subforum for Waterworks on the Titan website? I've been starting to use this and I'm finding it fairly handy so far once I got the hang of it. I have a question though. What's the difference between "New character" and "New database"? I don't really understand. If I make a new character but not a new database, what happen? Does it use the info from the current Obtained list or...? Or does it automatically make a new database whenever I make a new character? That's not really explained in the included Getting Started.
  7. Since the patch today, my character, who is wearing the Victorian Steampunk 01 chest piece as her top, is experiencing severe clipping issues. She has the Eden top beneath it and as you can tell from the photos, if she didn't, there would be some severe wardrobe malfunctions occurring!

Please fix this soon, it looks horrible. I'm going to have to change my character's costume because of this until it is fixed.

Yay, this is a great option! Thanks for this.

    BADGES
    • Players who are defeated when Bobcat is defeated will still receive the Kitty's Got Claws badge if the conditions have been met.
    • The 5th Column Gladiator badge is now also awarded to anyone who completes the Dr. Khan TF or Barracuda SF. This award will be retroactive
This makes me severely giddy. I'd written that badge off as one I could never get, so I'm really happy to hear that I'll be able to.

Sorry for the necro-ness, but I just found this thread because I lost the file for the Speed on Demand .exe file that I used to have. I've never dipped into CityBinder before but I quite am quite liking it. I downloaded the silent bind file version you posted in the post above this one, Spacebar, but it doesn't seem to have whatever fix you implemented to add the Demon Summoning pets to the Henchman dropdown in the quoted bit. The URL in the quoted post is dead.

And then there's the specifics, like how powers worked the same, which a lot of people in the thread feel was more understandable than having a modified PvP ruleset--which required a different way of approaching PvP content, and lead to builds that were viable in PvE but not PvP. So, I've been taking a look at all of your comments throughout the week and noticed these two points are the common denominators.
Personally, I rather like that there are different effects in PvP vs. PvE because it means that power effects can be adjusted for one or the other without being detrimental for the other community. This is one of the things that I really enjoy about Guild Wars and the way they manage PvP. PvP metagame is ever-evolving and changing and powers often need to be adjusted for exploits or methods that are too overpowering. If you end up nerfing a power for PvP-ers because of the way it works in PvE, you're going to to make that community really upset and vice versa. When the difference was introduced, I thought it was a great step forward.

That's not to say I don't think the system is flawed. There's not really a clear explanation ingame at all about diminishing returns and their effect on PvP. There's no tutorial you go through for the PvP game like you do for the PvE game, and I think it should be considered given the drastic changes that i13 introduced. I think that the lack of clear explanation is the biggest problem here because people go into PvP zones expecting that their powers will work a certain way with no thorough explanation that things are practically completely different.

My Mind Dom's effectiveness has been nerfed to hell since the i13 changes, which was pretty disappointing for me. I think the fact that the only way you can make someone drop toggles now is through end drain rather than mez takes away some enjoyable tactics. It used to be that if I was able to successfully hold someone, the fact that they would have to take the time to wait for their toggles to recharge and be able to reactivate them would have a lot of impact on my tactics, especially for long recharging toggles like Granite. Now while I can hold everyone because of the protection/resistance changes, it feels less like a tactical success because their toggles are only suppressed. Telekinesis also used to be a favorite power of mine to use, which was also nerfed.

While I enjoy PvP in other games, I don't really enjoy CoX PvP much at all. The game wasn't originally created with PvP and it shows. The lack of objective-based PvP is my biggest complaint I think. Open zone PvP (especially stuff that mixes PvE and PvP, like people doing Shivan runs and acquiring nukes) just isn't that fun for me. Running around trying to find people to punch is less fun to me than doing stuff like Capture the Flag or Territory Control and other modes of play. While RV does have elements of Territory Control, I would enjoy it more if there was a separate zone or instance dedicated to it.

Now that the League system is going to be implemented for PvE stuff like the BAF and Lambda incarnate trials, why can't there be the same thing for people to queue up for CTF/TC/etc. runs?
  11. Congratulations to all the winners! "Clanket" made me crack up and "City of Gyros" is brilliant.

Admittedly, that's what you get in the real world as well. When you drive down the highway, there's all sorts of different styles too. Honestly, I think I'd feel more dissonance if they all were in the same style.
  12. I accidentally attended this because a friend of mine messaged me outside of game and said "Rularuu is in AP" and I was like, "Bwuuuh?!" Logged in in time to see War Witch hanging about and Rularuu being defeated. Congratulations to the happy couple! This was a great thing to see in game and is one of the reasons I love the CoX community and the dev team.
  13. So I ended up taking a break from CoX last year and never actually got around to IOing my DM/DA, so once again, I'm perusing your guide for aid. I was wondering, in your sig you say you're going on hiatus, will you be updating your builds with the Typed Defense emphasis before then? I am curious to see how those will look, as the glaring Energy hole in DA causes me a lot of frustration when grinding Boreas or doing Rikti raids.

Also, struggling to make the most effective build possible while limiting yourself on certain power choices due to wanting to stick to character concept is frustrating as hell. >_<

The female model's obviously exaggerated to be lithe and graceful, and slapping a muscle texture on it would look incongrous at best and downright jarring at worst. It's a move that has the potential to make the game look worse, so I'm not really in favor of spending resources there.
When you max out the sliders on the female model, she can look pretty darn beefy. I think a muscled texture would definitely look fine on that. There are also many thinner women out there who are definitively muscled without being bodybuilders. Looking toned doesn't necessarily equate to looking like you're on the 'roids.

I don't know, on one hand, I understand that the art team and everyone wants to keep their visual standards high and maintain a consistent aesthetic in the game. On the other hand, it almost feels offensive to have someone made a blanket judgment that women in the game just can't look like that.

Just wanted to throw my hat in the ring as another person who supports the unisexing of customization. I am very dismayed that my otherwise very punk-y looking brute female, with mohawk and motorcycle vest and combat boots, cannot have tattoos or smoke a cigar or cigarette. I can't have femme-y men who wear skirts or like to glam it up like David Bowie or Dr. Frankenfurter.

I'm hoping is that there isn't some sort of secret unspoken reason to deny unisexing on the grounds of "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" in regards to having more androgynous looking or transvestite characters. That would just be utterly disappointing to me...

And yes, I do realize I can just go play another game or stop my subscription or whatever if I'm not happy with the current aesthetic options. But I love this game, most especially for the open communication between the devs and the playerbase. I'm just hoping that in communicating our desires for more unisex customization options, we can convince the dev/design team that, yes, it is something that enough players would want for it to be worth doing.
  15. Good luck at your new job Niv! You will be missed.

  18. I skimmed the pages of this thread real quick and I was wondering why none of the rednames have ever commented on this pack and/or why they don't change the game's official icons to fix the apparent inconsistencies. The only thing I see is Ex Libris and TheOcho mentioning the OP updates.
  19. Best of luck, A_C. It was entertaining to read your occasional ranting in VU2009. Thanks again for the helpful guides you've posted. I underscore the "Do not skip classes!" bit a lot, but I also advise that you be forgiving with yourself too. If you miss class one day or maybe a couple of days, it is not the end of the world. You just need to make sure you go back. Don't let it weigh on you to the point where you feel like "I've missed one, **** it, I've screwed up, I lost my chance" and not go back at all. Perfectionist, black-and-white thinking like that can really screw you over, and I speak from experience. As in all things, balance is needed.

Also I'd advise not getting really ******* wasted every night either, though I'm sure some people may argue with me But I saw too many people in my dorm get hauled away in stretchers for drinking too much. I wish you the best of luck in pursuing your higher education.
  20. Yeah, that was my current thinking on CP as well. I don't think I can afford to 6 slot Gaussian's in FA so I'm considering dropping it altogether. I love ET. I use it as an opener, then I run in Soul Drain while everything's trying to get up so I'll have to ponder. Thanks for the advice! I wish I could afford more slots to slot my epics more, but alas

My biggest question right now is do you find 1 Acc common IO to be enough in your attacks at level 50? There's no defense debuffing at all in DM/DA and I know the biggest way to save end is to hit the first time. I usually have 2 level 50 Acc's in my attacks on my melee toons and I was wondering what your experience is with only one. I'm kind of scared to drop down to one, since FA was nerfed.
  21. I'm trying to rework my own DM/DA and I want to thank you very much for this information. I've only been playing 2 years now but I'm finally about to undertake trying to figure out what IO sets I want for her and this has helped a lot.

I definitely would like to hear your opinion on synergy with the other epic pools as well. I'm currently Body Mastery, so I'm curious as to your opinion on the new Focused Accuracy (and slotting thereof) and Conserve Power's necessity post-IO's.
  22. You were a great CRM, Lighthouse. I'll miss you. Good luck in your future endeavors.
  23. Player created content? Holy crap. CoX really is stepping it up. Wow. I hope we get a rough ETA for this soon.
  24. Oh my god, this has completely blown me away. I'd heard rumor of the Roman stuff, but holy crap, VEATs?!? I am floored and I can't wait.
