Catalyst 11.9
haven't tested, but from patch notes:
"City of Heroes no longer experiences stuttering after excessive use if in-game Anti-Aliasing slider"
does this fix the crashes? no idea...
Before the issue that broke the ati drivers i had a difficult time playing this game. constant crashes every 1 hr, graphics get deformed, fps drops, all until it finally crashes. I could AT MOST run 2 incarnate trials but the second one usually started reporting alot of the symptoms shown above. It was painful doing this.
Now after 11.9 I have so far(since fresh installing the driver 1 hr ago) been playing back in ULTRA MODE with no crashes fps drops or graphics deformation. Ive done back to back to back incarnate trials where usually b/c of the amount of people and powers being thrown around I will crash, but so far its been a smooth and stable ride.
Try it out, but i do believe that ati has fixed this issue with COH.
I've installed these and they passed a "quick test," of lasting over an hour.
I did realize about 20 minutes in that I still had Vertical Sync turned off from a suggestion Tex made in another thread, so that might have something to do with it.
I'll have to give these drivers a full (about 2 hours or more) test with Vertical Sync turned on later to really try them out.
BUMP and UPDATE:
Its been a solid 2 hours of incarnate trials amongst multiple characters. No crash No fps drops and no graphics glitches. Id recommend installing these drivers ASAP if you had problems in the past with COH and ATI graphics card.
Thanks for the update on this Vince!
I wasn't sure if the live drivers today would correct the issues that Catalyst drivers have been experiencing with COH. There was some confusion if it would be this version or a beta version.
Good to know!

UPDATE:
I've just passed the two hour mark with the 11.9 drivers with Vertical Sync turned on without any crashes. (In other words, my graphics are as they were before the driver troubles started with 11.5)
I would feel confident recommending these to any who were having troubles before.
Frame rate can get a little sluggish with V Sync on in an outdoor map (sub 30 fps with hovering between 18ish and 24ish being common) but that is nothing new to me from before 11.5.
Thanks for all the feedback, installing now, perhaps now we can finally play without freezing up every half hour.
oh goodie...thanks for the info. I'll give them a whirl this weekend

Final update: I just completed a Underground Trial and it was sooooo nice to be able to "participate" in it. No crashing no fps drops no stutters, and we all know how long that trial is and how much activity is going on with all the players, mobs, pets, and powers being thrown around.
So go ahead and update your drivers fellow ATI users, spread the word to the freebies so they can enjoy this game.
Now ... to figure out how to get the 11.9 driver loaded onto my iMac ...
I'm still using something like 10.2. Anything newer than that just broke the game, permanently. Would you/folks advise rolling all the way forward to 11.9? I'm kind of afraid to try it, because it took so long to get things fixed the last time...
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

I do believe it would work for you... But if you are comfortable where you are at, no need to risk it.
If you aren't particularly happy with where your gaming is at now, I do recommend trying the update.
I've been using 11.4, and decided to upgrade to 11.9 to see how much of a difference it made. I never had crashing, minimal frame rate drops etc in trials, but these drivers ... I'm seeing a 10 to 30 fps INCREASE ... Running so smooth now!
CHAMPION!
I'm on 64 bit and prior to today I was using the 11.3s as I found them the most stable for me. I've not had any problems since installing the 11.9s but have yet to run an incarnate trial.

I was getting hard crashes with anything above 11.5, especially during trials. I played all night with the 11.9, 3 trials, with heavy alt-tabbing (that usually caused a crash), and I had no crash at all. I'll finally be able to play newer games without having to uninstall/install different drivers
This is with an HD5870 1gb and an i7 2600k/8gb, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1.

Played a short amount last night with the new drivers. Stood in Atlas with no real lag - I even got to turn Ultra mode back on, including shadows. Didn't crash! Even on the 11.4 drivers I would crash within minutes of turning shadows up.

Update:
3 hours this afternoon. Ultra settings as high as I could get and still run 60+fps.. NO CRASHES.
Okay, I'm gonna go download those. Thanks for the reports! I had the hangs every half hour or so especially when zoning with 11.8, was stable with 11.4. I'll try to remember to report back.
Yeah 11.8 was a nightmare. Thanks for the heads up on the 11.9 - I downloaded it yesterday.
I'm using 11.3 with Windows 7 Ult. 64 bit and I have a feeling my intermittent freezes are due to the 11.3 drivers. I'm going to download the 11.9's and see if this corrects the problem.
XFX Radeon HD 6870 by the way.
Havent tested yet for the crash fix but wanted to get the word out, good luck.
