    Catalyst 11.9

    Update:
3 hours this afternoon. Ultra settings as high as I could get and still run 60+fps.. NO CRASHES.

    Catalyst 11.9

Played a short amount last night with the new drivers. Stood in Atlas with no real lag - I even got to turn Ultra mode back on, including shadows. Didn't crash! Even on the 11.4 drivers I would crash within minutes of turning shadows up.

    6970, Win7 64.

The point is to get them to hit the market and hit it often. Getting old players to resub is actually secondary to the F2P model, which is why you can turn everything back on by using PP - just like every other hybrid F2P game out there. It is an effective and proven model.

However, with returning players, you have more difficulty. These are players that have left the game and have far less emotional attachment as someone that actively continues to subscribe. Gutting all functionality from the game (and minus some new content, Premiums are playing the pre-i9 game again) only lets them off the hook for coming back.

They already stopped subbing before for whatever reason. The point is to lure them back, not keep them driven away by castrating the game too heavily.

I agree with the currently slotted IOs idea unless it is not possible because of game limitations. What you want is your premiums to come back to their favorite toons, then buy more things in the store to enable the full experience later. Hook them with the fun, then grab their money when they realize that they are very limited outside of their old 1 or 2 unlocked toons.

Also, I would like to point out that they work on the issue of misconfigured cookies\sessions. Which I stated in my post.

I'm not sure if Coolio was attempting to agree with me or rebut... But he\she just pointed at three threads that proved my point.

Did I also mention I did mods for another php forum software, and even was a dev on a portal team for that php forum software?

I would like to say the db issue is something to be followed up on, too. If NC is using a custom bit of code to sync the vB db with the game db for user access, it could screw with the login process depending on how it is updating.
  5. I belong to many forums that use vBulletin and none of them have this issue.

Also, we already know that the forum db was screwed with during the VIP upgrade process. Cookies\Sessions are misconfigured.

I am actually angry to hear the devs blame Jelsoft.
  6. I can play indefinitely with all ultra mode sliders set to off. I can play for multiple hours (sometimes more, sometimes much less depending on activity on screen) if I leave shadows off and turn everything else all the way up (except AO, I don't like it). If I turn on shadows higher than lowest, I crash roughly every ten minutes.
  7. First Ward on Liberty crashed last night. I imagine that it has been restarted by this morning.
  8. Aaaah, the 11.4s. I had forgotten how good this game can look when you can turn ultra mode on and still keep a high FPS.
  9. Continues to lock up often and randomly. FPS drop is quite severe, also.

Moving back to the 11.3 drivers.
  10. 1. Uninstall 11.8 drivers.
    2. Safe mode, Driver Sweep
    3. Reboot, install new preview drivers from above link.

So I started the game, had to walk away for a bit - it sat on the account login screen until I got back. No idea when it crashed, but it was a full hard lock of my machine requiring a cold boot.

    Windows 7 x64
    ATi 6970
AMD Phenom II x4 945 on a 790x based motherboard
    4GB RAM

    Some extra info:
When in game, if I turn off all ultra mode settings, set world detail to lowest, particle effects to lowest, I can play almost indefinitely. At these settings, my only crashes are at the load screens.

Also, no other game (and I am a hardcore gamer) crash on this system.
  11. I love how I can't use the same credit card I use for my own account and my wife's account to buy things on my son's account because I've used the card on "too many accounts."

Oh well, my son doesn't need this stuff anyway.

Really? Can't use the card on more than a couple accounts? What the hell kind of business is NCSoft running? "No, I refuse to take your money because you already GAVE me some money before."

It is really going to be a crap shoot. Start with the 11.8 (or 11.9 if they are out when it gets to you) and work your way back until you find one that is stable for you.

The 11.8s are better for me than anything earlier. I can even turn Ultra mode all the way up on several things and still maintain a good (30-50fps outdoor, 60+ fps indoor) framerate.

I haven't been able to turn those settings all the way up since I was using 10.12 drivers on my old 4890.

je_saist, no 6xxx series card can use drivers prior to the 11.x series.
  14. So far, they are no worse than the 11.7s for me. No crash after about 1 hour of solo play - but not really stressful, that .
  15. Crashing a lot again after the last game update. Mostly at load screens, but the most repeatable crashing is when I have another window for some other application open. As I run windowed mode so I can look at things in a browser when I need to, this is obviously an issue. With Firefox open, coming out of a door did not fail to crash my game, and at one point locked my machine completely forcing a hard reboot.

No other window open, I am back to only the occasional crash.
  16. Still getting the not open to public message, three accounts including one that was in the... ahem... previous stage of the beta..
  17. je-saist, I feel your pain. Unfortunately for you, the pace of game development on the Linux platform still lags heavily behind Windows and even MacOS. The choice you made to run Linux as your main OS has had this same downside since Desktop Linux was born as a viable choice.

The problem is that your outrage is just not justified. Feel free to be disappointed or annoyed. You will find many here that sympathize considering our own battle with getting this game running correctly even on its native Windows platform. But frankly, your otherwise informative post is overshadowed by your insulting delivery.

The simple fact is that CoH is a 7 year old game. They took a smart marketing outlook with the release of an OSX compatible launcher simply because of the growing number of Mac users in their core demographic. There is still so little money in the Linux side of things that there is no real marketing potential. It doesn't make it easier when they *do* something for your end of the scale, then get ripped and insulted when something they honestly don't control makes it hard for you again.

The CoH developers most likely had very little input on the switch to the NCSoft launcher. Once CoH was bought by NCSoft, you should have been getting ready for this. It would have prevented a mad scramble and angry, abusive rhetoric aimed at people that were most likely told that the new launcher is how it WILL be from their corporate owners.
  18. The issue is that in a thread about an ATi driver release, you decide to come in and go all fanboi on everyone. Also, your knowledge of OpenGL and the two manufacturers is somewhat faulty. I don't give enough of a crap to care - buy whichever, I own stock in both.

Anyway, 1 crash tonight, an improvement over the 11.3s, but still some instability.

My wife is on the 11.3's, and gets that after the patch. Anecdotal, but suggests it may be game related instead of driver related. I have not experienced this issue at all, myself tho.

Not to mention nVidia has also had its fair share of issues with this game at certain points.
  21. Played for two hours on the 11.7s last night, no crashes. Radeon HD6970.

Feels the same as the 11.3 drivers I've been forced to use until now. Two hours is long enough that I would have crashed at least once.
  22. Microsoft Security Essentials is surprisingly robust.

Without a NAT hardware firewall, none of these matter much. Make sure you have a router.

    Int32 error

I see data errors like this and my initial reaction is to think you have a bad stick of RAM. I would try memtest. Memtest is a small downloadable CD that runs automatically and can test your RAM for you.
  24. Even tho the OP has asked this not to be a debate on the validity of needing to open port 80, this *must* be said as part of the valid information about this topic. It is very dangerous for a novice (and for an expert for that matter) to manually open ports on a firewall\router. I cannot stand by and not stress the importance of knowing what you are doing and why a port may be closed on your consumer grade router or firewall.

If you can browse the web, your port 80 is open enough for this game.

Port 80 is the standard HTTP port. While some ISPs (most, actually) block inbound port 80 connections in an effort to prevent people from running their own web servers - a major security risk for an ISP, connections that are initiated by your machine are let through and data flows correctly both ways. When you start the client, your machine asks the CoX server for a connection. Data then flows back down the pipe directly to you with no interference from your ISP.

Now, if you are having issues connecting or maintaining a connection to the CoX servers, there may be a port that is closed on your router. Since CoX itself (the game) does not actually push data back and forth on port 80 (80 is a standard port and as such is only supposed to be used for HTTP traffic), it is unlikely that you are having issues because of port 80.

As far as I have seen, the only time CoX needs port 80 is when you initially open the launcher, and this is to supply your launch screen with the webpage that is included there. It also uses HTTP to push patches.

Again, please be very very careful opening ports on your router manually. Ports that are by default closed by the router are very very rarely ports that you want the Internet to have unimpeded access to.
  25. I am anxious to start a mirror for my main scrapper. A DM/Regen brute.... hmmm.

My DM/Regen scrapper is still my favorite toon after 5 years. I have run several other scrapper secondaries to 50, but all have been deleted. Too boring. I love the edge of your seat, active feel of regen.

As to the argument over min/max or SO baseline builds... I think I might have a crushing impact in one of my attacks. Otherwise, everything is basic IO for my toon, and I *still* have been the last man standing often enough to realize how good the powerset is. I just don't appreciate a min/max, uber/perma/whatever build. It works fine for me and just about any team I've ever been on.

I actually love the idea of seeing how I can do with a taunt aura - I already tank (regen + scrapper means WHAT ARE WE STANDING AROUND FOR!?) at times, and as long as I time my click powers, I do fine. So I am interested to see how the taunt dynamic will play out.

Otherwise, I see nothing but love.
