Usually, a couple times a day, I'll have the game lock during a zone transition.
I fully expect it to be affecting both brands equally.

And while it may not be the driver itself... The crash report does mention an ATI .dll. In my case, I forget which one. But it is similar to the one in this post.

Driver Sweeper is what I use. At home I already have 2.1 installed.

If I'm at work and need to install it I usually just download whatever the current version is on MajorGeeks.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I see no need to update at home as that version works quite well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If I decide to upgrade video cards, I may update Driver Sweeper first. Newer isn't always better. See recent Catalyst Drivers for an example.

As I already stated, if I'm at work and need to install it I usually download the current version from MajorGeeks.

Updated from 11.4 to 11.9. (Windows XP, 32 bit, old card)

On the good side this cleared up some issues I've had over the past few months. I was even able to turn my graphics up from Early Hanna-Barbara to just a little past 80s-Afternoon-Cartoon-Block in quality. My FPS improved by about 5 fps outdoors to 10 fps on a mission map. I've also not crashed out due to a graphics issue yet.

On the bad side I've noticed that at a point during play my FPS will bottom out and nothing short of a restart of the game will fix it. I can't find a specific pattern yet although I've seen that it happens somewhere between two to four hours of play. I've also seen it happen if I swap over to Chrome on some occasions.

There is a really, really good chance that some of my problems here are caused by simply having an ancient computer that's see a lot of wear. (And not having enough memory on the video card.) I just wanted to add a little to the discussion in case anyone else noticed a drop in their FPS similar to what I've noticed.

The game is playable and that's what I care the most about.

I'm on a fresh install of Win7 with the 11.9s and have had no trouble thus far. I've only logged a handful of hours since the reinstall so here's crossing fingers.

/e grief

I just upgraded from a Nvidia 9800GT (3 year old card) to an ATI 6770 today. Everything at the exact same settings resulted in marginally poorer performance than it did on the much older (and much, much slower) card. If this is an improvement over how it used to be before these were released, I'd hate to play it before hand.

I'm using 11.9 currently - rest of the system is a Core2 e8200@3.2, 4GB DDR2, 120GB SSD, Win7 64 - playing at 1920x1200. Every single one of my other games have had frame rates jump in leaps and bounds save for CoH...

Anyone care to fill me in on the problem?

So it hasn't always been like this with ATI cards?

Anyone know what exactly the issue is, or what would be helpful for a solid fix?

Well. After a couple of weeks testing and so on.

11.9 is generally stable, however I experience random drops of FPS for 10 to 20 seconds. It does not matter what you are doing, being on an Incarnate Trial, Task Force, soloing missions, or simply chatting in tells on top of a solitary building. I even tested this on all graphic settings. even on minimum graphics I get this random drop of FPS. It stays at 4 to 8 FPS for 10 to 20 seconds before returning to normal.

I returned to 11.2 and the only time i suffer a similar drop of FPS is when there are too many lagging powers around me, otherwise I can ran Incarnate Trials on Ultra with 28 to 36 FPS (I have my FPS capped at 35)
