I'm pretty sure someone who worked for that game company would realize that the Player Questions section was for actual questions. I'm not sure what the OP is, but a question is something it isn't.

Eh, I've played that other massive game, and when they bring the servers down, its pretty much '12 hours OR MORE' every time. There is no such thing as 'just a 2 hour downtime, we promise guys' So, if they really only patch on patch day (which is tuesday by the way, just like us) then why were the servers so unstable for the latest expansion that people were locked out of the game for 3 weeks? Due to lag, and other massive issues that beta testers weren't able to squash.

Fatsos are the ones going to the drive through because they can't be arsed to deal with gravity for a few minutes. I always go inside because it's usually faster, and doesn't pollute the environment as much (in fact in some places they're trying to completely get rid of drive-throughs, because all those idling cars add a lot of pollution -- something I'm in favor of). Besides, if I'm going to eat a 900 calorie cheeseburger I may as well get 30 seconds of exercise. You can still get your food to-go.

Its kinda rediculous that updates and status have to be read through these 'social media' things, but oh well.. thats the hype of 2011. Posting updates on their site of forum is sooooo 2010.

Of course, working for that game company could mean anything...

Maybe he was customer service or an admin. Working for a company doesn't automatically make you an expert in the industry.

You know, I think *I* am going to go Free2Play also, because I, too, love this game. However, everytime *they* run a special event, I am off doing something else and can't attend.

I swear the dev's look at my calendar and plan their stuff accordingly. So, I am going to show them I am mad. I am going free2play, they're not going to get any more of my money and I am going to enjoy the game less. Because they are mean devs making me enjoy the game less. And when I enjoy the game less, everyone else should too.

This is not a rant, mind you. I'm just tired of spending about 50 cents a day and not getting the full experience because they run things when I can't make it. Next they're going to start doing things on the test server, which I haven't downloaded... wait? They already do things on the test server? Oh man, I am SO going Free2Play now!

I have to admit, two major down times a week is a lot to pay for.
Bliz .. er the other game... used to have rolling restarts and I hated those too but they were only for 15 minutes. CoH has 4+ hour down times even when there isn't a major release.

I've played games that fix things quickly and games that wait for patch days. I prefer quick fixes.

Actually, my presumption is that they are using the downtime to enable premium accounts. The reason there are so many downtimes is to not have the servers go down for 24+ hours in one shot.

Well, maybe as a side effect, but Ustreams have been pretty specific to say that almost all of the scheduled downtimes have been for server upgrades or moves. (Unscheduled downtime, of course, does not count toward either side of the discussion.)

They did try it in 2004 I think. The McDonald's Diner I went to was in Whitesland, IN. It had a full menu. I know this because I still have one of the menu's in a photo album somewhere. I traveled a lot during that time and brought one home to my family so they could see it. There wasn't enough interest, and they closed the doors fairly quick (to me, anyway).

So, on topic. I think they are offering free to play services because they want more interest and thus a possibility of more revenue from those players who upgrade to VIP. Even if they only get 5% of free players to go VIP, that's 5% they didn't have before. That's just my opinion though.
