Restart AE
Actually... this could be a really good idea. Especially since all arcs are stored locally on one's own computer. This COULD encourage story writers to fix the things that are broken in their arc and re-publish it in the "proper" spot.
However, I think the "Farm" section should likely be suggested as "Non-Story Arcs," that way the Devs aren't coming across as if they condone farming... but it would be a pretty specific nod in their direction.
It would mean losing my low number.. but I am all for it...
Clean up this mess pleassseeeee!!!!

Also could we not call them farms, how about having a category called "Combat Missions"? A category for people that want to make tough missions without extensive story content.

"Story arcs"
"Non story arcs"
All with their own subcategories. Stories have the whole "Canon related," "Origin story," etc. Non story arcs can have a "Farm" label, "Challenge," "Experimental," "Non-combat" (for things like the "crafting room" or whatever it was) and the like.

However voting things down has a negative impact on your own reputation, so you wouldn't do it often. |
Ehh... I'd be a bit wary about this. Say, the first two are fine, third starts affecting it unless you give it time to "roll off" or something.

As others have said, and I agree. AE desperately needs several problems addressed. (Not that they're likely to be, since it's now 7 issues past and this game's devs are all about the New Hotness, until it ceases to be that.)

I am also okay with this, as long as I get to mark my own arc as one not to be deleted. I like what I have done with it and I don't want it to die.

Who's to say that certain farm, combat mission, etc. authors won't purposefully mis-categorize their missions for the purposes of visibility, or just to spite "RPers", etc.? I think we're putting far too much faith in the honesty of other players, but that's one of the key components of the AE I suppose - faith in other players.

Quick reply broken now? Dang.
Well, I don't really feel that AE needs a restart. If it should happen though there are some good ideas in here.
I *would* like to see some Restricted Missions though. This would let players publish some arcs (and have them count towards their published total) that would not be seen by other players. Some players would use this for farms, yes. Others would use this so that their SG-buddies would be able to see their arcs more easily, or people on their Global Friends or Server Friends lists.
I know that I make a lot of arcs that are geared towards my friends and Super Group. I'd kind of like to make it easier for them to find them, and make it easier for me to find theirs without having to search for the globals all the time. Yes, we could use unique tags... but come on.... this would be a neat feature
Are you familiar with Stack Exchange? I was thinking of a rating system like they use. Mostly people only rate things they like (you rate them up or down) but rating them down causes a slight lowing of your own rating. It seems to work very well and prevents troll 1 star drive-bys. Obviously you need to have an authors rating system as well that runs along side story arc rating. You don't directly rate individuals though.

I have a friend who's currently playing the OTHER superheroic game right now (no not THAT one, the one that went F2P), who wrote at least two GOOD AE arcs before she had to let her CoX membership lapse due to hardware issues.
In any event, I think it'd be a shame to "wipe the slate" of all but specially ranked AE content for exactly that reason. Yes, I realize there's a lot of crud in there...but is it worth getting rid of it all for the few jems that would fit what people have been wanting to see out of AE?
There are some that would say "yes". I say it's throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
Which you never, EVER want to do 'cause you end up with a wet and critcally injured baby...

I would rather see a better search engine than erasing everything and starting over.
I'm for a better search engine. My SG has used AE consistently and have a large volume of arcs for our group. Definitely, don't want to see them wiped.
Errr how does this help if the 1 star trolls aren't creating any missions?

Down voting someone elses question costs you some of your own reputation.
I'd be happy if farms were their own category. Then farmers wouldn't give my stories 1 star ratings, and I wouldn't get into a farm by accident.
My enthusiasm to pimp and ***** my own arc has certainly hit a wall, so I'd never get the same rating/hits as I currently do, but yeah, I'd be happy with it.

The problem of course is first, getting the programming/graphics time for the changes to the UI. Then the decision about what to do with the current arcs. Wipe out all except for the Dev's Choice or try sorting them into categories as it. The first has the advantage of being easy, but there would be some cost of loss of arcs where the author has left the game. Probably not many, since older arcs are likely to have become broken over time, but still some. The second would avoid that, but at the cost of a horrendous workload trying to go through all of the arcs and determining what goes where. Actually, I doubt it would even be possible. Even doing a search on Farm would result in inaccuracies, with some farms not having that in the title or description and some story arcs using it.

It's AE, it'll never happen, but...
MARTy sounds like a good throttle, while leaving the non-over-the-top farms alone. But AE still needs cleaning up.
I suggest two things:
1. Redo the AE interface. Have a tab for Dev Choice/Hall of Fame, one for Story Arcs, and yes, one for Farms. They're going to be made anyway, make it a spot away from those who want story arcs (with their own ratings) and gathered for those that want to.
1a. Yeah, redo the rating system, too.
2. Wipe out all non-Dev Choice arcs. Just start over.
We've got so many dead arcs, broken arcs, broken farms and the like cluttering it up, it's time to do a wipe. It will also let arcs be placed where they'r e"supposed" to go. (Not sure what to do with Players Choice, since there are farms in there, too.)
Yeah, it means actual work on AE, so it won't happen, but still.
Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.
