IOW, their own self interest would push them toward using the system correctly.

The problem of course is first, getting the programming/graphics time for the changes to the UI. Then the decision about what to do with the current arcs. Wipe out all except for the Dev's Choice or try sorting them into categories as it. The first has the advantage of being easy, but there would be some cost of loss of arcs where the author has left the game. Probably not many, since older arcs are likely to have become broken over time, but still some. The second would avoid that, but at the cost of a horrendous workload trying to go through all of the arcs and determining what goes where. Actually, I doubt it would even be possible. Even doing a search on Farm would result in inaccuracies, with some farms not having that in the title or description and some story arcs using it.
Let the players categorize them.

After playing the arc the player picks if it's Canon, Farm, Origin Story, etc, etc, etc. A minimum of X votes (X=10 in my mind, but leave it open) is required to categorize an arc.

Have a Broken button as well that if 3X players hit it unpublishes the arc. Each time it's hit the character/player gets an email/global tell so they can be notified to fix their arc.

AE is about player created content, let the players manage it.

Check out the Repeat Offenders network of SGs! You'll be glad you did.

Interface improvements have been requested for AE since day one. Maybe in a year or two they will get around to fixing it.

I think the devs went WAY too far with the way they rolled out AE with "specialty" stuff like Dev Choice and HOF type categories. It certainly gave most people an unrealistic expectation that people would flock to "their" mission vs the "other" guys missions and promotes story arc ego inflation among those creators prone to that mentality.

It did nothing but promote player vs player competition and the star system is broken and basically facilitates down ranking like no other I have ever seen.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

There are some that would say "yes". I say it's throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Which you never, EVER want to do 'cause you end up with a wet and critcally injured baby...
Nice thing about babies and ae missions, you can make more.

So there seems to be 2 real catagories as far as AE is concerned.

Farmers and OP (other people)

Seems simple to me - 2 tabs.

Make one called Agricultural Selections

and one called Content Missions

One idea that stuck in my mind is being able to block out AE missions that you don't want to see in a search... via a garbage can (if your familiar with limewire from a few years ago) or some other such device that takes it off your search list... this might also detract from putting negative stars on things (I have been known to do so when there is a mission I access repeatedly and it's not on the page where I can see it when I pull up a search)

Oh 1 more thing. Maybe use the filter to auto sort the content into the respective catagories... most farms have the word "FARM" in the discription/title/someplace.

A penny for your thoughts... $20 bucks to act them out.

I can all but guarantee that you will never see a "farm" label because that would imply a tacit approval of farming from the dev team. Personally, I think they should do away with the stars and make the rating system like this:

Challenge Rating: 1-5 (5 being extremely difficult battles or challenging content)
Recommended: Yes / No / Neutral

So when you pull up an arc, you would see something along the lines of:
Arc #0001 - Super Awesome Arc of Joy - CR 3.21 [1299 Recommendations]

Down voting someone elses question costs you some of your own reputation.
Sooooo then someone makes a fake mission that they put up, which then allows them to vote.

I just think the idea that you need to have some missions in the system is waaaaay too abusable.

Also we DON'T need more throw away missions clogging up the search. Too many missions is also part of AE's problem.

EDIT: Also what do you say to the hundreds of players who don't wish to create a mission but regularly play them?

Blazara Aura LVL 50 Fire/Psi Dom (with 125% recharge)
Flameboxer Aura LVL 50 SS/Fire Brute
Ice 'Em Aura LVL 50 Ice Tank
Darq Widow Fortune LVL 50 Fortunata (200% rech/Night Widow 192.5% rech)--thanks issue 19!

Simply creating a mission would not give them enough rep to go on a down-grade rampage. I suggested the Stack-exchange system because it works rather well.

We've already seen how the rep trolls abused the rep feature on the forums. They'll just do the same thing in the AE.

I'm certainly for a redrawing of the lines as far as AE is concerned.

A 'Like' button (NOT a 'Dislike') for an optional reward for the author if you really enjoyed the arc. The Like button gives out the tickets from an 'old' 5-star.

There is no 'Dislike'.

The author gets a small (E.g. 10, for a totally arbitrary number) amount of tickets for each play through, not each play-through by a different Global. So If someone likes that arc as part of their level up, every time they play it the author gets a small bonus, but only if the arc is Completed.

That should satisfy both writers and farmers.

Now I would suggest that ratings are reset. No one loses current tickets, just that ratings are reset.

I have a DC arc so I'll let those that think I think I'm amazing have a snipe, but keep the DCs thanks very much. Dr Aeon thought my arc was good. And other people liked it too.

Tabs

  • Developer's Choice Tab - for DC arcs
  • Guest Author Tab - for Guest Author arcs
  • Supergroup Story Tab - for SG/VG-related arcs
  • Origin Story Tab - for Origin Story arcs (might appeal to those who want to write about their own Heroes/Villains, for example)
  • Grind Tab (i.e. Farming Tab, but don't call it farming)
  • Roleplay Tab - I'd like to think for Roleplay Arcs that they wouldn't be griefed, but some folks seem to like griefing RPers - Often to the detriment of their own play-time. People can be weird.
  • 'Regular' Tab (no jokes about Diet and Regular thanks ) - for those stories that don;t quite fit into the above for whatever reason

Remove Hall of Fame as a concept. It doesn't seem to serve a purpose, apart from being a focus for griefing.

Simplify the Dialog Buttons used by an author to describe an arc (the colours denote mutually-exclusive dialog buttons):
  • Intended for Solo play
  • Intended for Team play
  • Canon-Related
  • Non Canon-Related
  • T for Teen
  • Universal Age Rating
  • Adult Themes
  • Time Challenge
  • Combat Challenge

Keep the Search facilities.

That would be my ideal. The folks who want to create farm maps can. It may also highlight exploits more without necessarily coming down on farmers - i.e. all the farms are in one place - if you base any additions or developments on what those farmers can come up with in terms of exploiting the risk/reward ratio and lessening the impact, then surely that's a good thing?

People who write stories for their SG/VG can easily locate the arcs. But similarly if they've created a farm for members then chuck it in the 'Grind' tab.

With tabs, it might be easier to keep the place clean and tidy. I'm not so naive to think that resources would be made available to do that, and the idea of player-led moderation brings me out in a cold sweat.

When did we have a rep feature on the forums? I remember a stars system, but wasn't here for a rep system.

Just so long as the engine works differently (i.e. Better)than the one on these forums!
