  1. Ok, I think we've pretty much beaten the dead horse on what happened to the server. I think it's time we focus on the "what are we going to do to fix it" part.

I think all of us who are active participants on the server agree that we want it to be successful and populated enough to allow for teaming without necessarily overspamming certain channels or zones.

So let's ask ourselves first, what is it we like about Exalted, and then second, what is it we think we, as a community and as individuals, can do to make the server a successful and popular server.

    I'll begin:
    1) I'll be honest in that I like Exalted's exclusivity in that you have to pay to play there. It means I'm dealing with players who have a financial interest in the game and I'm not dealing with RMT spammers. I could just as easily have stayed on my original server because I liked most of the players there and it was fairly well populated at most hours I played and I had a huge base that I had spent years building -- but instead, I chose to up-end everything and spend quite a few transfers and global slots moving all my toons over to Exalted.

    2) While I don't think Exalted will necessarily surpass Virtue in terms of a RP nexus, I'd like to bring an opportunity for people who enjoy role play to have an outlet on Exalted. This is the reason I've opened up my supergroup to recruit new members on Exalted rather than it just being me and my alts. My work schedule is, sadly, haevy and unpredictable, so I can't necessarily solo-organize events, but I would be happy to be part of a larger community of SG leaders and activitists to set up server-wide events. I believe that by creating an active, user-supported event list, we will draw positive attention (and possibly participation) from the devs and position ourselves as one of the preeminent servers.

Well, depending on the arc, if you're following the storyline of one of these honored heroes, you could essentially make the same types of discoveries as they did. Adapting it to your archetype shows that you've developed these abilities rather than simply stealing the same powers the hero had. You could learn it from someone who taught them, come into contact with an ancient artifact that once empowered them, increase your abilities through dedication and devotion of focus as they did, etc.
  3. Went crusing around the wiki to find a quick list of dead heroes and here's what I came up with:

    Atlas
    Statesman
    Sister Psyche
    Quint "The Fist" Velasquez
    Alistair Sutton (presumed dead)
    Captain Voclano
    Crimson Fist
    Geoffrey Cartwright (possibly dead)
Invisible Falcon (vanished; primal version of Ghost Falcon)
    M1
    Miss Liberty
    Maiden Justice
    Wayland
    Cassiaopeia
    Galaxy Girl
    Manticore (original)
    Luminary (original) (presumed dead)

The reason I didn't want to go with "patron" powers for heroes is because, unlike with the villain patrons, the signature heroes already provide training. And ultimately, to match the patrons, they only need 4 heroes that can be easily adapted across multiple archetypes.
  4. Ok, for those who haven't been playing through the signature arcs, don't keep reading... spoilers ahead.

For a while, we've been asking for something akin to the patron power sets to be ported over to blue side. I would like to propose that, in the wake of the deaths of Statesman and Sister Psyche, heroes get the chance to unlock homage power sets. For example, by completing a dedicated story arc, you are able to learn the life history of, say, Statesman, from his origin to his ultimate demise, and through your devotion and dedication, you learn to unlock some of his powers for yourself, such as lightning strikes, etc. Another hero we might be able to pay homage to might be Atlas, giving you powers such as a limited growth (increase size 25%, increase dam and dam resist for limited duration) and limited shrink (reduce size 50%, increase stealth radius, increase speed), etc. Sister Psyche might give you the ability to leave your body to conduct reconnaisance without being attacked but also without being able to interact with objects (much like phase shift but you leave your body behind).

There... that is my random, half-planned suggestion for the night...
  5. Steel Phoenix is a hero group looking to recruit mature players interested in light role play. We will be hosting a recruitment event on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 5pm Pacific (so that those who like to parcipate in the various Saturday events still have the chance to do so afterward).

Those interested in a tour of our facility while it is under construction (although still fully functional) should send a tell to @NovaFang during the event for a group invite so that you may enter.

The overall theme of the supergroup is that it is functionally several smaller supergroups that have joined under the auspice of one financier in order to pool resources and optimize their base of operations. To that end, we welcome heroes of almost any caliber from sidekick to galactic champion.

I look forward to meeting with you at the event.
  6. I've posted them before... I'll post them again. Maybe some day they'll stick...

  7. Personally, I remain convinced that eventually, the devs will have to get rid of "resistence" and "loyalist" as alignments and make them into factions in order to force players into the villain/rogue/hero/vigilante cycle immediately.

But I also think that one of the ways to really bring people back to Praetoria is the same I suggest for the Shadow Shard... unique recipes and salvage. Why would you earn Numina's Convalescence while running around Praetoria? What about Diabolique's Ambulation or something like that?

    Base Henchmen

I wouldn't anticipate moving henchmen ... summon your german shepherd and walk around your base. If it's anything like mine, it only takes a moment for the pet to lose its pathing. Making mobile npcs in a malleable-on-the-fly environment would be a pathing nightmare.

But base npcs in general, yes.. I'm totally in favor of it.

Mmmm a really nice idea. And since we lost an arena when Galaxy City bit the dust, this new stadium could have an arena access point (without necessarily looking just like the arena) and could also combine the two tram stations into a new single point of arrival near the center of the zone.

So very much yes. I hate that pointless meandering wall incorporating vast stretchs of water. They should kill the war wall and just let people fly to Peregrine or Striga.
  10. Actually, I was looking at the city zone map the other day and thinking about something similar. I'll add some recommendations:

Near the old Galaxy City enterance, there could be a refugee camp of sorts for people who have fled the destruction in GC. Not everyone could fit in Atlas Park, after all. There's opportunity for an entirely new quest hub there to secure medicine, food, supplies, etc., from the various gang factions. It's also a good chance to allow low leverl characters to run arcs that don't steam roll you through tutorials like in Atlas. We could also get a little more background on Kraken, etc.

Look at the city map. There is a huge water-way between Steel Canyon and Boomtown but the in-game play doesn't dive that impression at all. I think the southern side of Boomtown should be extended to show a large bridge perhaps akin to some of the more famous bridges in America. The area on the south side of the brdige could be inhabited like the north side of Faultline, with quest hub, some shops, etc.

North of the bridge, you have some reconstruction efforts but they are clearly hampered by the mayhem going on there. I would pull out the trolls-- they get enough game play elsewhere. Instead, turn the mid-part of the zone into a true battlefield between the Council and 5th Column. Meanwhile, in the far north, the Clockwork King has made some serious renovations -- entire buildings have been harvested, turning that area into a vast scrap yard full of new 2nd geneartion clockwork. You don't honestly believe that with the influx from Praetoria that he wouldn't have seized on the opportunity to make some upgrades among his own forces? I can imagine that area turning into a freakish steampunk nightmare with giant turning gears, a paladin and babbage construction zone, etc.

Oh, and more bang for the buck, by adding a bridge area, you add a water area beneath and being so close to Siren's Call, you now conveniently have an access point and potential quest hub for villains as well.

Meh, not going to bother with DA... they're already redesigning it. But again, easily extendable to the water's edge based on the city map, so easy access for villains too.

The trick with Crey's Folly is that it is a place we could easily have our preconceptions of villains groups turned on their heads. First and foremost, I think there needs to be an access point from Independence Port -- not just Brickstown. A huge water gate (sealed) would correspond to a similar gate in southern IP while beside it there would be the standard entry point for players. Yes, it means getting rid of some docks in southern IP but... seriously? There are plenty of docks in IP.

Next, you come back to the nature of CF and it's positioning. You could have rival factions at cross purposes here. Corporate-wise, you could have Crey and a competitor .... one is trying to clean up CF while the other is trying to keep it polluted as a deterrant to the Rikti since the war zone is just to the west.

Meanwhile, I can see the Rikti leading harvesting expeditions into the zone through underground tunnels to try and collect materials out from under the eyesight of the normal civillians protecting the main city. This puts them at odds with the Freakshow who also want those components and also use CF as their home turf. In addition, you have Vanguard who want to stem the tide of the Rikti so they may be deputizing some Freak elements into their ranks here. Also a chance to see rikti-fied Freaks and freak-ified Rikti.

Then you have the Devouring Earth. Here's the chance to see them sympathetically instead of as all consuming monsters. The toxicity of the area hurts them, hurts the environment, etc. They want to clean up CF -- ostensibly so they can spread and thrive -- but perhaps you have a super-powered version of Greenpeace (such as Fauna First)speaking in some misguided way on their behalf and trying to recruit people to help clean up the environment with the Devouring Earth helping them in the short term. "See, we can befriend the Hamidon..."

My only point with Eden is... look at the city map. Where is the Hive? Technically it's where the southern half of Faultline is. They need to fix that and move the Hive to the south of Eden.

But as long as we're on the subject... why aren't the Devouring Earth trying to corrupt the dam at Faultline? Some Hamidon juice in the drinking water and they could be spreading influence like wildfire down there.

Terra Volta... terra volta... an entire zone existing just to house the entrance to a respec trial. Personally, I think we need some seriously beefed up security for that reactor, a heavily patrolled access corridor with PPD hard suits, corporate security, etc. This would also be a good place for the devs to utilize their new phasing tech. As the zone is secured it becomes more and more cleaned up and modern looking. Perhaps heroes could work with Positron to upgrade the reactor, improve its power output while increasing its security protocols... perhaps even setting up an entirely separate reactor in another part of the zone so it doesn't interfere with the respec trial "lore". It's easy enough to just lock the zone from zone events like the Rikti invasion or Halloween apocalypse.

The thing that bugs me the most, however, is that even if you name (rename) a minion, his appearance is dramatically altered every time you resummon them. Worse, once you get the 3rd minion (say, the flamethrower guy from Thugs or the medic from Mercs), you have no way to ensure that the minion's name is tied to his special abilities. Naming the medic Mr. Patch-it is useless, because the next time you resummon your minions there's a 2/3 chance that the name Mr. Patch-it will be given to a regular rifle-wielding merc instead.

The ability to lock a minion's appearance and special abilities to his name would be a start.
Dunno about you but on my two thugs masterminds, my arsonist is always named the same thing. He's the third thug, always. The names are in order.

  13. Honestly, I think this could be handled with some potentially very simple behind the scenes coding.

For example, let's see my scrapper, Wild Riot, wants to run the BAF. As Wild Riot, I've run BAF probably 5 times. As @NovaFang, I've completed BAF probably 30 times. I've never been a league or team lead on any of my runs (and I have no desire to ever do so). So perhaps there could be some interface or read-out somewhere the basically catalogs for the sake of the league leader that shows:

    Wild Riot (@NovaFang) 5:0 @ 30:0

That would tell the leader, "Hey, Ive run it before -- I've never lead it -- I probably know the sequence of events for the trial, I may not be flawless on this particular character but I know it well enough to be functional." If I wanted to play on my defender, Hui Ren, it would be:

    Hui Ren (@NovaFang) 0:0 @ 30:00

Again, "hey, the player knows the sequence of events but has never run nor lead it on this character, so there may be some hiccups."

    On my peacebringer, NovaFang:

    NovaFang (@NovaFang) 12:0 @ 30:0

Effectively translates to "I've done this enough times on this character that I know what I'm doing and I really don't need instructions. I may even be able to lead a team."

And if anyone argues about what happens when multiple people use the same account... EULA already says not to do that. What about people using multiple accounts... I'm one of those people and I believe we're the statistically minority, so feel free to speak up and say "I've run this 1000 times on my main account" if you want.
  14. Is it possible to /inifinitesign something? If so, I'll do that. I *hate* the combination screen. I agree, can we just find a way to get rid of the damned animation sequence... or possibly allow us to upgrade every enhancement in a power in one interface (so line one would be one enhancement, line two the next, line three, etc... up to six lines; you put in whatever enhancements you want to upgrade, add in the upgrading items and hit one button and then you get "success, succes, fail, success..." and all of the ones in that power are done in one shot)...

    Summer Event

Well it isn't like they don't have plenty of things to draw from... Aion has a summer festival, takes place in a different world, and still they manage to make a plausible explanation for it. This game, after all, takes place in Paragon City in the United States, so an Independence Day celebration makes sense, but if we want to make it more thematically open for our non-US players, they could easily make it tied to some in-game lore such as the day the Rikti invasion was repulsed or something of that ilk (or possibly something even further back in the lore... something Primal and Praetoria would have in common so both worlds could/would celebrate it).

I'm totally on board with nightly fireworks displays... perhaps tied with some seasonal task force. Complete the task force and that nght, over some random city, you get fireworks. Maybe in the Rogue Isles, it could be sponsored by the Family/the Mooks for a change of pace... I mean, they aren't just thugs, these are supposed to be representative of a wealthy upper class in a manner of speaking. Who else but the wealthy would love for an excuse to be extravagant and show off their wealth?

    Just throwing ideas out...
  16. Hrmmm very interesting idea. I'd be willing to try it... could also work thematically with darkness or even plant themes...

    /signed
  17. Why not allow PvP zones to allow characters to switch alignment arbitrarily? Because 1) the game design doesn't allow that. How would the game remember that Captain Heroic was a hero normally and just decided he wanted to dabble in villainy while in Bloody Bay? 2) Because, believe it or not, some PvPers actually DO believe in storyline and don't need an arbitrary excuse to change alignment.

If you want more zone PvP on a server and one side is lacking, why not build more toons on that side and recruit?

    Restart AE

I can all but guarantee that you will never see a "farm" label because that would imply a tacit approval of farming from the dev team. Personally, I think they should do away with the stars and make the rating system like this:

Challenge Rating: 1-5 (5 being extremely difficult battles or challenging content)
Recommended: Yes / No / Neutral

So when you pull up an arc, you would see something along the lines of:
Arc #0001 - Super Awesome Arc of Joy - CR 3.21 [1299 Recommendations]
  21. The psionic one could be something like "Mind Ripper" where you point at a crowd and the affected enemies are then lifted up off the ground, their heads glowing as they writhe, their thoughts flowing into you as they suffer.

Sorry... it's very early in the morning and I haven't had much sleep...
  22. And as with all suggestions for enhancements to base items, I totally endorse this idea.
  23. Anything that gets us new base items, I am totally on board for. I personally would just love to have ready-made walls that allow us to subdivide a large room without having to use desks, safes, filing cabinets, etc. The ability to actually place items on top of other logical items as well (like the SG conference tables, the pre-made desks, etc) would be good too.

But I would also like to create a room that has a more natural feel, so being able to make it look like it is outdoors would be good.

Speaking of which, how about actual functioning doors? A portal that you can click on and it opens and then a minute or two later it automatically closes again. I had rigged up a pseudo door using some of the arcane pieces but I had to force it into a half-open position at all times otherwise it was impossible to use.

And on that topic, why not the ability to customize our "entrance portal"? Can we get some options other than the spirally energy field of doom? How about an actual door like from mission instances? Faerie rings? Elevator tubes that drop us off?
  24. Thanks guys. I thought it would be more flavorable to be able to unlock additional power pools but looks like that isn't something others are keen on so it's easy enough to move on past that. I'll toy around with the ideas and see if I can come up with a more comprehensive EAT or something.
