Base Henchmen

Hello All,

Had an idea and do not know if this has been suggested before (search fail), but here goes;

What if you could earn/acquire Henchmen that worked in your base ?
Here are some examples of what I mean ;

Archeologist / Acolyte : This would be a person working out of your workshop that would spend their time in R&D for components. You could check in from time to time and set them to work on creating specific components. Based on rarity, it could take 1-2 days up to 7-10 days. Once they constructed said components, you could collect them and deposit them into your vault or salvage. Then you could re-assign them to work on something else.

Scientist / Mage : This person could work out of the control room and much as the previous Henchmen, you could set them the task of working on creation of specific recipes.
The time to completion would be more like 5-7 days for a common up to 25-30 days for a rare. Again, they would progress toward completion and would need to be re-assigned to another task after making one recipe.

***Notes : Acquiring of these henchmen could be totally by prestige and there would be absolute limits of how many of these could be in the base (I am thinking One of each only, unless a second is awarded after some prestige gate or in game award). Additionally, like other games, the timer keeps running even when you are logged out ***

Doctors / Nurse : This type of henchmen could operate (sorry for the pun) out of the Medical room and offer Inspy purchase much like the Nurses at regular hospitals. A Doctor could offer Personal buffs (1 at a time) which you could purchase after arriving in the rez chamber. Sample buffs : +res, +def, +regen, +rec, etc... Again you can only have one buff on you at a time, not one of each type.

Warp Technician / Temporal Warder : This henchmen would work out of your Teleportation room and could offer the service of porting you back to the door of your active mission.

Drawing blanks on henchmen that could work in your Energy room, but these should give everyone the general idea.

Any thoughts ??

That idea actually does sound kind of neat. I also know how you can get control of certain things with the gladiator badges, maybe use them as a kind of secondary guard system or something similar.

Base/SG NPCs are on a lot of wish lists.

Add a few more to your list, functional NPCs like a Trainer, a Market Rep, a Hero Corps Analyst, a Tailor and a Vendor. Other NPCs could include completely cosmetic or fluff types, like Cleaning Staff (Humans or Robots), a Butler and Maids.

Excellent Ideas. Was pretty sure the topic was not original, but always good to bring it up again

Yes we all want this. However I think part of the problem for why we don't have them is that it would really tax bases and cause serious lag issues.

A lot of base builders know the more animated items added to bases, heck even bookcases cause problems, the more lag they cause.

I've thought this would be cool for a while. I want my own NPCs!

Forbin has a very important point though; even if they were in the game I probably couldn't have them anyway cause my laptop sucks.

I just want a butler that greets me and asks if I require anything when I enter.

i like the OP's ideas of specific people for specific rooms with services/functions like the base items. and if they could be set on either stationary or patrol room, then i would just about die of happiness.

and if there were a tailor in my base...

i'd never leave. XD

:edit: OMG if you could put like "up to 3 NPC's" in your base... and could pick from a list like in the AE group creator:

Function: "Medical" [gives insps.] [other options: Workshop, Control, Energy, or No Function, etc.]
Appearance: "CoT Mage" [is a CoT mage.] [other options: Crey Scientist, Banished Shaman, Vhazilok, Standard Hospital Doctor NPC... etc.]
Movement: Patrol Room or Stationary

lol OMGAAAAH! or better yet, set a behemoth to patrol.

ok i need to lie down.

Definaly an awsome idea. Minions, Lutients, Bosses, Elite-Bosses and AV Henchmens in Sg bases guarding the sg base

I wouldn't anticipate moving henchmen ... summon your german shepherd and walk around your base. If it's anything like mine, it only takes a moment for the pet to lose its pathing. Making mobile npcs in a malleable-on-the-fly environment would be a pathing nightmare.

But base npcs in general, yes.. I'm totally in favor of it.

It's been suggested many times; I love the idea, and last I heard the devs weren't opposed to it, it's just not high on their list of priorities and they're worried about it from a server resources/lag standpoint.

Personally, I could see a few stationary NPCs with simple animations, but I wouldn't expect anyone to move around or fight. What I'd love -- love, even more than if they really had a function -- is if they'd talk to you, not with speech bubbles, but like contacts, with the dialogue window that opens up (and could be edited by people with the right permissions). Just as an example, SGs could have a receptionist near the base entrance that greets people, tells them about the group's theme or premise or history, maybe even gives a schedule of planned SG events or -- and this is the part I want the most -- "gives directions" around the base in the form of marking a location on the map (actual "turn left here" style directions are probably more than they could handle with bases being customizable, and less useful than a map marker anyway). My SG base is a friggin' maze, and it changes from time to time, so being able to click on an NPC on my way in and say, "hey, where are the teleporters (or invention tables, or storage bins, or whatever) located now?" would be a huge boon.

I don't expect to ever see it, but /signed.

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

omg a receptionis! great idea!!!! omgggggg.

it would be nice if there was an "Add NPC" button that would open a window with tabs similar to the "Place Items" button and window and the tabs would mirror "Arcane", "Tech", "Sewer" and add "Metropolitan", "Mutant", "Elemental" and "Historical" and within each tab would be different types of NPCs, but each tab would have some for each function.

rooms could have an NPC limit, and the base an overal limit also.

...

also, something targetable like the warzone practice dummies is something ive been wanting for a while now. loved it when the items were bugged and i could target them. snowstorm in my base really sets the mood for it's theme XD
