i picked that on my first toon i ran through cause i couldnt take the alignment merit due to being a rogue, i was awarded 22 merits (it was actually 2 units of merits then 20 units of merits)
i did not get any reward merits picking the alignment merit option
edit: this was for the redside arc, but im guessing its same for hero
2 merits was the base reward when I finished it (hero)
total kick to the gut

It really stinks that non-50 Vigilantes and Rogues only have the one choice and that the one choice really isn't all that good.
I've gotten the 4x reward twice in 14 hours on my rogue. I did the villain story last night when this went live and just finished the hero story.

I think you always get 2 Merits.
If you chose Reward Merits, then it's 5 extra Merits. If you chose 4x Merits, then it's 20 Merits.

What do you usually run to get 22 merits/10 minutes solo?
I'll grant that a Hero or Villain merit is a better choice, but I certainly wouldn't consider the merits as in any way bad, or even average. It seems above average to me.

If you think the 20 merits is not as good as a hero merit, you'd be right.
The moral is: Be a hero or a villain.
Why a rogue or vigilante can't get 50 reward merits is probably because if that was a choice, than a hero or a villain would be able to choose the same option- which is essentially getting the same reward twice within the 7 day time frame. (the 1 hero merit, then the 50 reward merits. )
Could they design it so there was a different reward table for rogues and vigilantes - maybe. Will they? I dunno.
More than likely, they'll stop giving us a choice and just give the 2 merits once they see how many hero/villain merits are being earned.

I think the Alignment Merits are worth a little bit less than 100:1 if you go for random rolls, but for straight purchases Alignment Merits are worth 100-199 Reward Merits.

20 merits = 1 random roll
20X5 = 100
Or you can straight out buy a recipe worth 125 or 150 or 175 using a single hero merit. The 50 merit recipes you can't even buy with hero merits, as they are too cheap.
In what way are hero merits worth less than 100 merits?

I played through the first Signature Story Arc this morning, and when complete liked the choices except for the 4x Normal Reward Merit option. I don't know what 1x Normal Reward Merit is. It took me less than half an hour, so I'm gussing it is pretty light, especially when compared to that Hero Merit or some incarnate components.
But that darn 4X was stitting there all shiney. I wanted to press it, but I thought of the Mystery Box. I resisted and selected a Hero Merit, but I sure would like to know what 1x is so that I can feel better.
Anyone know what normal reward merit for this first Signature Story Arc? (I can do the 4x math myself)
