Floating Coins

Is there any option to remove these from above the contacts heads? I really don't like them. I know there wasn't in Beta, but wondered if they'd added one?

No option to remove them and (AFAIK) zero redname comment on them.

MTS's coin-b-gone is the only way to remove it right now. It's not perfect, but it's the only way I can tolerate being near a contact now.

My thanks. That will do for now

I get that the huge ungainly coins are a good way to attract the short-span attention of new players' FPS/ADHD-addled minds (as well as a good way to demonstrate utter contempt for said new players, but I digress), and I appreciate the effort, but I honestly don't see a reason why we can't turn those abominations of graphical design off just the same. They throw a shadow, for cripe's sake!

Please let me turn them off. They're very ugly and I know who my contacts are without them.

I can understand being bugged by them wanting to turn them off, but seriously? Abominations of graphical design? Some folks need to take a chill pill.

I understand that some players desire "immersion". I don't understand why it's assumed that I'm in some way deficient just because I don't mind if my game looks like a game. I rather like that there's a clear visual cue that an NPC is a contact, even if they haven't been set as my map pin by another NPC. I hope that they'll clue me in to contacts that I never spoke to before and thus never knew were contacts.

Options are key to satisfying a broad range of customers. I agree that an option should exist to turn them off, but you don't have to make claims about the mental health of other players to make your point.

Now where did the floating coin touch you?

Seriously, we're now complaining about a feature that telling new players "Hey Story Arc RIGHT HERE" as bad thing? You realize this is staple kind of thing of MMOs, something that people expect and would be criticized if it was absent when this game goes F2P.

Never heard anybody mention them as needed on CoH

@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!

So now we have to do what other MMOs do? Seriously, thats your argument? So we'll be seeing Elves, Armour, looting etc next?

I didn't say they had to remove them from the game, just that they needed to allow me to remove them.

The yellow rings under the contacts feet are much uglier.

I like the coins.

Sam... are there shades of your opinion? It seems your "needle" for that goes from 0 to "abomination" a bit quicker than I would expect.

Seriously though, I am not a big fan of the floaty-contact-thingies either... but what annoys me most is the unintuitive color scheme.

And almost everyone here (except Sam ) agrees with you. Want we want is a way to switch them off if they want because they're ugly, immersion breaking and unneeded.

This sort of option should be factored in when UI changes are made to the game (ditto with the stupid floating buttons on the UI, why can't I right-click and select "Remove from screen" instead of having to dig through options).

This sort of UI stuff isn't rocket science, but Paragon Studios are woefully bad at it (see The Store for more examples of rough-and-ready UI design).

So, obviously all those new players that joined up within the past seven years were so badly deprived by not having-

No, wait, what?
They have a contacts bar. They have help channels and wikis and the like. They can ASK.

Or, heaven forbid, the 'Tutorial' could teach them about contacts?
Owait, newshiny is more important than teaching people stuff, sorry...

CoH=!Other MMOs. Why is that such a bad thing?

Seems the option to turn them off/on would solve the prob for everyone. I'd turn them off, but then I am not a new player.

I would like an option to not have so many options.

That's not my argument, Scotty. That's what the forum populace always pulls out when one complains about the tutorial or the coins. "Well, today's gamers are dumb, so you have to catch their attention!" or alternately "Wow has things like this and people can't see past their noses, so City of Heroes should have it, too!" If those are the actual governing arguments behind adding spinning coins, then they do little more than demonstrate a profound disrespect for prospective new players, finding it necessary to jiggle keys in front of their faces lest they become distracted by other game.

I find the coins to be a hideous, horrible abomination and would like to disable them on my screen. This doesn't mean I hate the idea of the coins themselves or the people who like to keep them on. I wished for the same thing when contacts grew auras under their feet in olden times. If you or anyone else like the spinning coins, more power to you. But I'd like to disable them on my screen just the same.

No, not really. I recall browsing through pre-release I21 screenshots at one point and marvelling at the new powers and graphics until I came upon this coin thing over Marauder's head and my first reaction was somewhat akin to that of a cartoon housewife seeing a mouse on the floor "Eeek! Help! Get it away! Ooh! Get it away! Get this monstrosity away from me!" Having seen them in-game for real, my opinion has not changed by much. If anything, I hate them even more now because I've had to watch them for longer.
