The reason I came back, though, is that the Graves missions aren't getting any better. I just beat Zephyr like a punching bag, and then I HAD to gloat at him and make him say uncle almost literally. I had to, speaking with him was a mission objective and my only conversation path was saying "I didn't hear you. Tell me I'm awesome louder." which on a scale of 1 to BANANAS is completely out of character for Mother Hagan, the dogmatic, reserved, ultra-intelligent scientist.
Why, I ask, this doesn't make much sense, that a conversation tree must exist without any options in it? The game has the tech to make trees happen, and all it takes is for someone to write text for it. This is not a major undertaking, writing a few screens of text. So why, then, am I forced to gloat like a five-year-old that I beat the world's biggest loser? Let's talk examples for a reason.
One particular tip mission has you meet Peter Thermai at the end. He acts polite and dignified in defeat. When speaking with him, I have the option of being polite in return, of insulting him to his face, and of being a wiseass and cracking jokes at his expense. To the best of my experience, each of those paths has about three steps that I think let you swap choices at every step, but I could be wrong. My point is: Why wasn't this in place with Zephyr?
OK, cards on the table - I don't like Zephyr. He's an incompetent idiot. But of all the villains in that arc, he was the only one who was "adorable." I saw him as the bumbling idiot that I could beat with my hands tied behind my back and he's still joke about it. Yet the game forced me to insult him, then forced me to make him beg. I don't mind doing it so much as I mind not having a choice in the matter. What was the problem with letting me either humiliate him and make him beg, pat him on the back and say "That was fun!" or just walk away saying nothing? It's just text! And not all that much text, anyway. Why go out of your way to make a multiple choice system and then only ever give one choice?

This is different, in that it dictates who your villain is, what he says, how he says it, how smart his is, what his regard for others is and even what he thinks. I'm playing someone else's impression of what my villain represents, and that someone doesn't know a thing about my villain at all. I am, in effect, playing someone else's character.
Rule number one when writing stories for other people: Don't assume anything.
Rule number two when writing stories for other people: Make them so they work for all characters.
When I said that the latest batches of content smack of Architect writing, I didn't mean that as a compliment. I meant they feel like someone had a pretty static idea of who and what the protagonist will be in his head and made a story that only really works for that protagonist and doesn't give ill-fitting protagonist interaction option that fit them. If you can account for all types of protagonist, then do it. If you can't, then don't write your arc to require a specific type of protagonist: In the case of Dr. Graves, a vein, stupid, brutish, crude, easily-intimidated one. There's nothing wrong with PLAYING a specific kind of villain, but when you make content that will be played by all kings, account for all kinds, or as close to that as you can get. Don't just account for YOUR OWN villain.

Oh, good god... They turned my character into Tidus from Final Fantasy X. Why do I bother trying to make cool, sinister villains when the game turns around and makes them into whiny, spineless, all bark and no bite SISSIES!?!
Whoever you were who told me that these arcs get better after the first, YOU LIED TO ME!

Would like to comment on this, but can't as I am unable to do the arc for some reason?
I have gone to Ourobouras and can see the arc sit's at the top of the list, but it won't allow me to click on it to start?

During beta I referred to both arcs as Twenty Missions With Jerks, even though it's more like fifteen.
Aside from the litany of sins in the writing, there's the fact that both sets of arcs utterly fail at their intended purpose of instructing new players. Everything they teach comes too late. Nowhere is this made more evident than when both arcs tell the player to go learn about trainers, when you must have trained at least four times to get the arc. The hell? This is so stupid it should never have gotten into closed beta, never mind to live. And yet, someone actually wrote them and numerous people must have signed off on them for us to have this conversation. It would be, dare I say it, inconceivable if it were not for the fact that it has actually happened.
I agree that both arcs need page-one rewrites. Even better, forget the whole idea and write an updated PDF manual. Let people RTFM instead.

The hero arc, so far, is enjoyable. Unlike Venture (who I personally find is a bit up himself when it comes to these things), I've got a larger tolerance for such things (heck the guy hates the D-Mac story arc...I mean..come on!) but the villain one...ouch.
To be fair I'd have to play it for myself in order to see how bad it is before passing judgement, it's not fair for me to do so otherwise.

Really now? We're going to have people (or just Sam) posting 3 page long rants about spelling or syntax errors, some of which were probably intentional to set characters up?
I ran both arcs with my badger character and enjoyed myself. I'm sorry, Venture and company, but not every. single. arc. in this game needs to be a matter of life or death, especially a how-to arc at the beginning of the game.
The villain arc did something that City of Villains never was able to do before: it made me feel like the Arachnos/Chosen One stuff mattered but that doesn't mean I get to be a Mary Sue right out of the box. These are villain characters. Them calling me a n00b or an idiot or trying to set me up the bomb is to be expected. Yes, the twist at the end was telegraphed almost from the first mission, but that doesn't mean it's not miles above what we did have before: aimless missions that randomly sent you to fight Snakes one second, Infected the next, then Arachnos.

I rolled fresh toons on Exalted for the express purpose of running all the new content...
So, I did the Twin-Shot arcs and the Dr. Graves arcs.
Each one has 3 sets of missions and each one is supposed to give you important information about the mechanics of the game.
Hard for me to say if they succeeded, seeing as how I've played this game for years.
But, Twin-Shot railroaded a lot less than Graves did. The only thing that really and truly annoyed me on the hero side was Grym telling me he smelled my fear... I call BS on that one, since I was beating up stuff that dropped all the others. Even Twin Shot calling me "kiddo" all the time wasn't too bad.
Now, for the first 2 sets of missions for Dr. Graves, I admit, I was thoroughly disappointed. Every hack plot device, every M.Night Shamalamadingdong "with a tweest!" twist, and every tired and weary (and very 'not me') dialogue tree I trudged through just because I wanted to get it over with.
Then, along comes the 3rd and final story arc.
Admittedly, I saw this coming a mile away. However, I enjoyed the 3rd one much more. Also, Crosscut actually backing you up during one fight when you're not sure who is going to attack you next was kinda cool. Crosscut is the saving grace of this set of arcs. He is twisted, demented, freakish, and as we used to say back home, "10 pounds of wrong in a 5 pound bucket."
Nevertheless, I am glad the arc is over. I may play it again for a badger, but I doubt it. I will play the Twin Shot arc again though.
Crosscut just might be my new favorite character in the game.
His speech patterns and mannerisms are not unlike the wrestler Goldust. I'd imagine this would be what Goldust would have been like if he was still in the WWE around the time of Saw and Hostel.
But I also liked Zeph as he seemed to be written from Daniel Way's "How to write Deadpool Dialogue" manual. The fact that this game is actually making "blow" jokes to me is a nice change of pace, since for years this game has been less risky with its T-rating than iCarly is on Nickelodeon.

To be honest, I'd rather have missions that have me fight random things than missions that put words in my mouth. Yeah, the "Go there, do that, get paid, get lost!" shtick of red-side was always a load of crap, but at least it didn't make a fool of me for running it, Kelly Uqua notwithstanding. They were just missions that I accomplished, saying NOTHING in the process.
It's the dialogues that piss me off the most, by FAR. If the arc had had me play the same part in it, but played me as a Gordon Freeman style of silent protagonist, I would have probably even enjoyed them. Have people tell me things, assume my silent - SILENT - agreement and just roll with it, and I would have been considerably happier. But no, whoever wrote it wrote it for his own villain and when I play it, my villain has to roleplay as the writer's villain. I have the unfortunate misfortune of actually having an aide of how my villains would behave, and the parody of a villain that this arc requires from its protagonist isn't something I've ever written for any of my own.
You nit-pick my arguments and ignore important points, Tazer, but the ones you ignore are the most vital. I don't want to sound like an evil Daffy Duck. If the arc had given me a choice in how I sound, fine. I'd have picked the most appropriate version. If the arc hadn't had me sound like anything at all, fine. I can deal with the plot elements. But to put words in my villain's mouth is just bad writing.

The first two arcs are parodies of the game and the source material - and of my character, to boot - but the final arc is a proper story in itself, and well told at that. If I could run JUST the final arc, I probably would. In fact, I could probably write a reason why you're running it without having run the previous two within the span of 15 minutes. That final one is great, but the first two arcs of crap are not worth trudging through just for that. I will not have words put in my characters' names if I can help it, especially when said words are neither neutral nor give me a choice in the matter.

My attention was focused elsewhere so I still have not played these arcs beyond the initial few missions.

Sure, he gets testy right after, but it's basically a for laughs deal at that point. Honestly - I like it better than having Ms. Liberty send me to Blue Steel just so that I can learn how to use the tram (and send a few Skulls to the hospital, as it turns out).
