Prestige Power Slide
I think it might have to do with the Heroclix that originally came with the collector's editions. If they have a legal contract with WizKids that says that the CEs cannot be sold without the clix, that creates a big problem as they no longer have the molds to make more.

Amazon has 2 copies of the Collector's Edition (Well, they've got 10, but 8 are listed as 'used', so I'd advise against them)

It's a collector's edition. Releasing the things that make it unique would result in it no longer being a collector's item, resulting in all those that bought it as such being very very upset. Doesn't matter if it is 'actually' collectible, all that matters is that it was advertised as such.
The rarity seen at Amazon would vanish overnight. Even though Paragon gets no money from those transactions, they can't take any actions to undermine the sellers as they bought the CE in good faith that it would increase in value as a result. It might not, that's a risk the buyer takes, but the company that sells the item can't take action to undermine it's value after the sale. Even when it hurts the bottomline.

This seems like the most obvious answer.

Didn't know that, but it does blow a big hole in that other theory.

City of Heroes game disk and license key.
"Buddy Code" License key with a 14 day account.
Prestige Power Slide
DVD Edition Cape
PvP comic and something like the first 6 issues of the Blue King comic run.
Map of Paragon City.
Instruction manual (which was out of date at the time I got it).
So, essentially it was a "CE Edition Lite" that could all fit in an inch-thick jewel-case.

Likewise, there was no promise with the CEs that there would be no rereleases or 'second runs' as often happens in the collectibles field.
And it *does* matter that the serial code isn't 'actually' collectible. If it's not collectible, then it is not a collectible. By definition. Saying it "doesn't matter" is based on what logic? Doesn't matter... to you as a matter of opinion?
If the Devs want to make the CE Slide unique, then they can create a new slide with a different accompanying (or no) aura. There is no real obstacle to Slide being released as long as it is paid for like the CEs were paid for.

I agree with Zombie Man, whoever is blocking this (and I doubt it's Positron, the way he looked when he said why it would not be on the market made it seem like he did not agree with the idea) needs to have things explained to him.
It's time to gather the torches and pitchforks and march on Castle Paragon! Send out the blasphemer! Rabblerabblerabble...

Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.
The CE was not put out with any promise or inference of an increase in value. In fact, only those who did not use the game codes can even see an increase in value.

1. Collecting anything there is always a risk that it will never increase in value.
2. Unopened and unused (Factory Sealed) is always the definition of Mint Condition and thereby the most valuable.
The only time opened is acceptable is with items like cards that are randomly packaged and need to be opened in order to find out the contents.
Collectors will buy 2 or more copies of items they are collecting. 1 for their personal use, and the other(s) to add to their collection.

I have yet to hear from any 'collector' on the forums throughout the years saying that a release of Slide through some other means would destroy the value of the unopened box sitting on their shelf.
|
The closest thing I said to anything remotely like that was that there is always a risk when collecting things that they will not increase in value.
Edit: Oh just in case, if I misunderstood your post I apologize.
While I already have these, I would not be opposed to grouping most or all of them together as one of the rotating Tier 9+ Vip Paragon Rewards picks. That way you aren't directly selling them for cash, and the Tier 9 requirement maintains some amount of exclusivity for those who care about that. Not the best solution but better that the current situation.

He did specifically say that the Collectors Items were never going to be in the reward program.

Turned out that Power Slide fits a character of mine perfectly (as a flight effect, in particular), and I have this discussion to thank for bringing this power to my attention. I thought it was useless all these years.
I got the power for free.
Main account bought online for the EU launch (I'd ordered a CE copy from play.com but it wasn't going to arrive in time) when I got in game either the first time of EU live or at some subsequent point soon after I was awarded Power Slide. I still haven't bought a CE copy for my main account, my ordered CE came later and was used to create account no. 2.
Still waiting for the perk Bridger said EU beta testers would get though...
Oh yeah EU CE CoH came with, Comics (2 in one volume iirc), map, game, buddy code. PvP comic came with CoV along with a book of concept art, heroclix (which I lost) and the game. (Plus some other stuff I have no doubt forgotten.
That would tick a large number of players off and set them to bringing Positron a torch and pitchfork party.

Edit: To answer the OP, as it was stated by someone else earlier in the thread, it is nothin' like Ice Slide. It is more akin to the cloud the people would fly on in DBZ, yet without the flyin' part.

I bought the limited edition, Way back when, And Have been using the Power slide on pretty much all my characters since.
Yeah, I know, It doesn't really work with there backstories for the most part.
For some reason, even though all the other prestige powers are the same speed, I just can't stand the animations that relate to them.
When I hit the Veterans reward that gave me all the other powers, I was kinda disappointed that despite my spending my money and getting the CE, Everyone else now had access to those same powers. It seemed a little cheap. But I'm not a collector, I got the collectors 'cos I really enjoyed the game and wanted to feel like I'd helped support it somehow. If even I was a little annoyed by that, I can't imagine how other people would feel, If they WERE buying it just to feel special in game.
Only after reading this thread did I learn my prestige power slide was still prestigious! (So thanks for that!)
Although it wouldn't matter too much to me, I could see where others would get upset by it being sold. We paid for something exclusive, And suddenly it's not? Seems a little unpleasant.
I would be one hundred percent fine with an alternative but similar power being sold though. I could see wanting an ice slide power, It would be pretty awesome.

Amazon .com as someone kindly pointed out has the NA version for $99+
I'll also repeat the warning to: Only buy NEW!

The *only* thing Paragon has ever said is that they would not give away anything we paid *extra* for (the preorders are not "extra" unless someone ripped you off) for free. They've *never* said they wouldn't sell the various "edition" goodies separately at some point.
We didn't pay for something "exclusive" in the sense of "Nobody else will ever have this." It's "exclusive" to that edition. Much like the valkyrie set was "exclusive" to the mac edition, the Sinister and Justice costumes were "exclusive" to the GVE edition and the like.
I own the COH CE and COV CE and have them on both accounts - and at least the original COV CE I paid quite a bit more than the "standard" edition for, as it was something like $80 on release. That said, I'd have NO issue with the items from these editions showing up in the store. If anyone owning either edition needs to feel "special" about it and would get upset over others buying it - I'll just point out you'd still have the *physical* items (cards, art books, heroclix, etc.) specific to them.
Like I said, It doesn't really bother me either. I honestly thought they'd already handed that stuff out. I could just see where some people would be annoyed by it. By now I'd kinda gotten used to it, I was actually wondering why I didn't see more power sliders out there in the world. Guess now I know! (That and apparently most people think it's stupid.)
It's their product, and their stuff to hand out. I paid for a limited edition, I didn't really pay for a limited power I suppose. If they decided to share it with everyone, It's no skin off my nose. Like you said, I'd still have the physical stuff to make me feel special.
Somewhere. Man, It's been what? 6 years now?
I figured there would be collectors who objected to it going for sale to the unwashed masses, But maybe there isn't? It has been 6 years or so like I said, maybe by now no one cares so much?
