Prestige Power Slide
Quote:
Amazon has 2 copies of the Collector's Edition (Well, they've got 10, but 8 are listed as 'used', so I'd advise against them)
According to Paragon Wiki, Prestige Power Slide could be obtained by purchasing the City of Heroes Collector DVD/Hero Kit.
For those of us who did not purchase this kit, is there another way we can obtain prestige power slide? I would like to add it to my ice-powered heroes, so they look like they are ice-sliding (with the frost path aura). |

Apparently the answer to that question is "no". Not that they can't... They will not.

Why do you say that?
I had read that the new rocket board power was created by modifying prestige power slide to work with the rocket board animation and vertical movement. Since rocket board is a top seller, maybe players would be willing to pay for the ability to slide along the ground instead of Run?
Just another way for Paragon Studios to grub money. In principle, they seem to be down wif dat.

The collectors edition was a limited time box set(First come first serve type of thing), the GvE was not limited edition.
Okay... Why won't they? They made the Good vs. Evil bonuses available for purchase, why not the Collector's bonuses?

Also, Positron responded to something like this on this Ustream at about 41:40

If you're going to make this argument, compare the CoH CE goodies to something more similar, like the stuff in GR CE: you can get the GR CE enhancements via Paragon Rewards (I didn't bother checking on the Alpha/Omega/emotes, though).

Do note, though, that GR CE is the "Complete Edition"; CoH CE and CoV CE are the "Collector's Editions". There's different intent behind those names. GR CE is like getting all of the addons for your car. CoH CE is like getting the first steering wheel off the assembly line. The addons are awesome, and everyone can have them if they pay; only one person can have the first steering wheel.

They did offer the Collector's Edition goodies as a booster pack for limited time. Who knows, they may do it again.
It's ridiculous. After being in the beta, I'm not going to pay for the Rocket Board, but I would buy Slide. *shrug* Who knows what the reasoning is.... I mean, they're actually charging points for Shadowy Presence.
No, they sold the "Hero Gear Kit", which was basically the Collector's Edition without an install disk. It included all the physical goodies (HeroClix, map, CoH PvP Online comic), and a code to unlock the in-game stuff. The Hero Gear Kit was little more than a repackaging of spare copies of the Collector's Edition.

Check out one of the recorded Ustreams from Tuesday morning:

Go to time Index 00:41:40 - 00:42:15 for your explanation. Positron said that some people will have to be not working at Paragon Studios for the power slide to be made available on the Paragon Market. I'm guessing there is a contractual obligation with an artist involved preventing them from releasing the Power Slide & Cape of the Four Winds.
The end result is the same. It will NOT be put on the market for the foreseeable future. It may never appear on the market, at least as far as Positron has said. I'll assume the same can be said about the CoV Collector's Edition.

A contractual obligation such as, the artist gets paid a percentage of the kit sales? And the contract specifies that the items can't be repackaged or made available in any other way?

You seem more plugged in than I am. Still, my guess was that Positron was referring to executives who made that decision.
In either case, Paragon Studios could restructure things to make Power Slide available in the Paragon Market and please whomever it is at the company that needs to be pleased.
- If it's a contractual payment issue, restructure the payment agreement to include sales from the Paragon Market.
- If it's an executive decision about packaging, convince the executives that their brilliant marketing strategy can be expanded and enhanced by making Power Slide available on the Paragon Market.
Or, create a new ice slide travel power and sell it on the Paragon Market. I just want ice slide for my ice characters!

Or maybe, they figure that since they told people that purchased the Collector's Edtions that those items would be exclusive to those editions and not available any other way, they should stick with that. You know. Keep their word to their customers.

Go down to general discussions and look at the All Things Art thread. Massive amounts of people asking for just that. And some good responses from Noble Savage about it.

Let me just say, that the Power Slide looks nothing, -nothing- like an ice slide. If you've not seen it, either find a video of it, or ask in your servers global channels if someone how has it, can demonstrate it for you so you can see what your asking for.

Not that I'm saying it's lame, I found a CE at a Big Lots for $10, and picked it up. I use it on occasion, but not that often at all. Your character stands somewhat like they do on the rocket board, but you stay grounded, and there's a purple mist that surrounds your lower half. Other than those animation details, it's exactly like Sprint.

Yes it definitely isn't for everybody. I find it most useful for shadow and darkness based characters. Basically it creates a pool of deep purple energy around your feet that you slide on. Nice but your character concept needs to support it. I actually switched one of the characters I had using it to beast run given he is a claws/dark tiger morph. Though I may switch him back he does look cool sliding on it.

Look, for all I know, it could be the person holding this up is Positron himself. I do know that it caught Zwillinger by surprise, so even he didn't know the fundamental reason. Given the front line community rep didn't know I think that the expectation that any player, including myself, would know why is completely unreasonable.

I've told you the official answer, I've shown you where you can find the official answer from a senior developer at Paragon Studios, and I can't change the official answer.
Short of the person who is blocking this leaving, the CoH and CoV collector's goodies will not be available in the market.

I don't remember that specifically; I remember that any extras a customer paid for (Power Slide, CoV CE Arachnos chest symbol, Cape of the Four Winds, Valkyrie set, etc.) would never be available for free, but I don't recall a restriction against ever releasing Collector's Edition in-game items for purchase.
Or maybe, they figure that since they told people that purchased the Collector's Edtions that those items would be exclusive to those editions and not available any other way, they should stick with that. You know. Keep their word to their customers.

It's been 7 years since the Power Slide became available. There are few things in life I would care about getting a collector's copy of, and then having it available for purchase again 7 years later. And don't forget, if you got an actual CoH CE (or Hero Gear Kit), you get all those other physical goodies in addition to the in-game stuff.

Please go to that person blocking Power Slide from going to the Store and tell them these things:
1. The CoH CE is sold out. You can only get it from unusual, second-hand points of sale streams.
2. The CoH Collector's Edition is not like ordinary collectibles that grow in value and can be resold. Especially the digital product. Once you use the Serial Code, it is useless to anyone else. It *can't* be resold or traded. It is not a commemorative plate from the Franklin Mint.
3. Those few places that have it, have jacked up the price. And you see none of that increased revenue.
4. Because the remaining product is scarcer and scarcer and thus more costly; there is an increasing likelihood of unscrupulous people selling the box and it's components even though the serial code has been used. This will lead to angry customers bothering Support about why their serial code didn't work.
5. If you sell it in the Store, you get more money.
6. See #5, duh.
7. Zombie Man says that not selling it the store is dumb. Yes, use my name.
8. Tell that person, "Execute Protocol Orange Orange." Don't ask why, just do it.

Um... *raises hand* I got the Prestige Power Slides without ever buying CoH: CE. I got it by being a 12-month Vet. Idk if that helps *shrugs shoulders, Power Slide's away*

They all do exactly the same thing - make you run faster (and all at the same speed). But each has different visual effects.
