Same thing happens if I open a shell window, go to the directory where I put the executable, and get everything but the <cr> entered, then go back to CoH, make sure everything's ready, alt-tab to the command window, hit ENTER, and same thing.

Or do you have to be in windowed mode, so you can fire off Sentinel+ without alt-tabbing away from CoH? <edit> No, tried that, still fails. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit Professional.
Try right-click on the Sentinel program and run as admin.
  2. I use to (and occasionally still do) use this site:
    http://www.heromachine.com/heromachi...trait-creator/

Definitely not the same thing, but totally creative in a different way. You can color your creations there or take them to Photoshop and customize further. Here is a character I had hoped to one day remake in COH:
  3. In the game:
I have two mains, each a side of my own bipolar personality. The bright, cheery Cirreon and the dark/dark Gaiknight. They were my first two characters and they will be the last two I ever see. I plan on recreating Gaiknight on my second account so they may both stand together, for the first and last time, overlooking Atlas Park on November 30th. They will stay there and I will watch them until they shut down the servers.

    For my own closure:
The Battalion have come and most of my 70+ characters are going to go out as they came in, fighting until the end. While a few may survive this storyline, most will not. I truly love them all and it really would hurt too much to try and continue somewhere else with them - they could never be the same in any other game and a similar fate may befall them there as well. So its best for me if I can visualize an ending for each and every one of them. I have started a Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/BattalionWarMemorial) and each one will get a send off in the coming months.
  4. I'm very happy to say that thanks to an official screen capture contest, I could see exactly what I added to the game every time I logged in. It made me very proud.

  5. Of course I've cried, I am doing so now.

Its like each of my characters was made from a little piece of me and it hurts like hell that they will exist no longer. I anguished with them when they missed that final to-hit roll before faceplanting, I thrilled with them when they leveled or got more powers, I delighted in getting new badges and costume pieces for them.

And the real-life people in chat or on the board and the developers of the game have been mostly lovely and helpful. For me, its not like losing a friend or family member suddenly, its losing hundreds of them all at once.

And to top that off, November 30th is my birthday. This is not a present (or future) I want, for me or them or for any of you.
  6. I have been extremely upset all day. I think it is because I invested a lot of myself into some of my characters, and losing them is going to be very hard. In order to help myself (and maybe others), I decided to try and give them some closure. So I created a plotline for the final story in the COH universe (one of many I'm sure ). I have also created a Facebook page called COH - The Battalion War Memorial (http://www.facebook.com/BattalionWarMemorial). I put it up quickly, so only one of my many characters is there yet, but many more will follow. If it would help you in any way, please post and share. Selfishly, I know it would help me to know that many of you cared for your characters as deeply (to know that I'm not the only total geek). So then, here is the final chapter...

    _____________
The war came early. We were unprepared. All is lost.

Due to Mender Silos and his meddling with the timeline, The Battalion arrived before we were truly ready. Millions answered the call of war. And millions died. The Incarnates, champions of the Well, were overwhelmed. The end of everything was near.

But thanks to Dream Doctor's warnings, Dr. Brainstorm was able to unlock the Time Manipulation powers just last year. These new superbeings were
able to time-lock the fight's final moments, ensuring that the universe will be saved - but at great cost. While some Psychic superbeings helped create portals leading to an alternate Earth for some to escape, nearly all the people of this world were lost. Since the time-lock is impenetrable, those not already dead are doomed to live these final horrifying moments for all eternity.

As the few survivors gather together, they remember those lost and fallen.

Thanks. For nothing in particular, and yet, at the same time, for everything.

  7. I had been holding together really well... until this post and seeing former rednames share in the misery. Now I can't stop crying! DAMMIT!
  8. Its a bug. It happens in this build, didn't happen in the previous, but was introduced in the one before that. It is annoying. Hopefully it will get fixed (again) soon.

By that wording, I wouldn't place the general populace at being that stupid to compare a gimmick item with that which is intended for the real purpose of the product.
That is of course a possibility. People are that stupid. The baseline IQ is set at 100. In America, the average IQ is 97. There are stickers on appliances that tell you not to use them while bathing, driving or sleeping. They wouldn't be there if someone hadn't done such things in the past.

But not only that, Disney has taken something another company has made, duplicated it and is attempting to sell it. Sounds just like the DVD bootleggers they complain so bitterly about.
  10. I'm not seeing why you couldn't use your Solid Hologram naming convention. Just replace the O with 0 instead of the I and L.

    Kidding.

But seriously, although the pieces look well-made, this set will be a pass for me. This is what I think "post-apocalyptic" looks like...

What we are being given is more "dumpster-diving serial-killer." And the pieces are far too specialized for me (like those boots, unusable with any other pants). So definitely a disappointment.
  12. Here's mine...

The tri-corner hat has already been made. It was briefly in the costume editor (but not actually purchasable in the store) way back in October and the powers-that-be have been sitting on it ever since. Seems pretty damn stupid to create something you don't intend on releasing.
  14. A question for Big_Soto... You state that the second design can use purchasable pieces. Ok. Now, Xenophage's top uniform has Tech Sleek Armor. That is only really purchasable by buying 9 reward tokens (over $100). Is that ok too? Can we use reward tree costume sets? How about tier 9?

The Three-Corner Hat first showed up 6 or 7 months ago. There was speculation that it would be included with some President's Day bundle. But February came and went and still no hat. Seems like they forgot about it.

And they could put the damn Origins cape pack on sale. 400 pp for 5 capes is WAAAAAY too much. 50% off would get more nibbles.

The in-game exclusive items from the CoH Collector's Edition should be bundled into one package and sold on the Paragon Market. Buying the items separately shouldn't be an option. I know some people might not like it, but I do agree that allowing someone to simply buy the VIP badge isn't very cool. Also, it's not like you could buy bits and pieces of the Collector's Edition or Hero Gear kit before, so while some may complain about, "I just want the cape and you're making me buy a stupid badge that I don't want!", in reality, what they're paying for is the entire kit--just as those who bought it originally did.

The original Hero Gear Kit sold for US$20. Translating that to Paragon Points, that should make it 1,600 points. However, I honestly think that would be a bit high and cause undue outrage for a very, very few in-game items. As a reasonable compromise, I think it would be worth it to split the price in half, and consider $10 of the $20 to have been for the physical swag. I think a fair and reasonable price for the cape, prestige power slide, and VIP/Destined One badge would be 800 Paragon Points.

The City of Villains Collector's Edition only came with a couple of chest emblems. I think a fair price for it would be 400 Paragon Points. I can't remember the difference in price between CoV and CoV:CE; I think it was around $20. But CoV:CE focused more on physical swag than in-game items, with seven HeroClix and an art book. The difference in Paragon Points between the CoH:CE and CoV:CE in-game items reflects that difference.

Undoubtedly, there are a very few people who would yell about having to pay $X on eBay for the items and now they're being sold for $10. Still, I think there would a lot more people who are delighted to have access to stuff that they might not even have known about back when it was released to retail. Plus, like I said, I think it would behoove Paragon Studios to help people who might want the items in the future avoid having to pay exorbitant amounts for it (money, I have to point out, that NCsoft/Paragon Studios get exactly $0.00 of) and risk getting ripped off in the process.

    Now the flip side:

The original games were 29.99 (COH) and 39.99 (COV). The Collector's Editions were 49.99 (COH) and 79.99 (COV). We subtract the base amounts from the CEs to eliminate things like discs, subscriber time and manuals. So now the total for all the extra goodies is 60.00. Of that, to be extremely generous, we cut it in half to eliminate all the physical items such as the Heroclix, artwork and maps. Now the total is 30.00. That is equal to 2400 Paragon Points. As we are well aware, it is more expensive to buy things in the Paragon Market then from the NCSoft store or at retail locations, so we add another 400 Points just because.

So, 2800 Paragon Points for 2 capes, 1 emblem, 1 slide power and 1 badge. Keeps the price roughly equivalent to the original prices, but still less than the eBay prices. Everybody wins!
  20. I got one last night doing UG.
  21. You will also not be able to pay base rent, so...

    a) if you have a solo super group, clear out the storage units and delete them.
    b) if you have the red star for a super group, give to someone you know and trust will stay subscribed.
  22. Haven't unlocked them in a while, but I always thought that these contacts were origin-based and -restricted (i.e. Seraphina will only talk to magic, Penny to mutant, etc.)
