Dropping VIP, character slots, etc.

I'm going to be a VIP until September of this year. Unfortunately, it appears as though by that point I'll be on disability, and unemployed (yay cancer?) and so I want to start exploring my options for this game.

I am currently Tier 9.

I have 11 characters on one server, 9 on another, 11 on a third, and 10 on a fourth. (Plus 3 on Exalted).

So that's five servers and 44 characters.

This will probably go up in number until September arrives.

Now I know I'll be losing a few things if I drop:

* Incarnate/end game content (I am okay with losing this)
* Access to Exalted (I can server transfer)
* I'll have a few server transfers (good for me to get out of Exalted), but no more free ones...
* Reward Tokens (I'm Tier 9, I'm done with spending them)
* 550 Paragon Points a month (I'll miss these)
* other non-gameplay-related stuff? (forum posting, better customer service, server queueing, global chat stuff, etc)

My first question is:

What would I be losing that I haven't managed to cover up there?

(I know that because I'm already Tier 8/9, I'll get lots of stuff. I can play Controllers, Masterminds, Epic ATs... Also I got myself the Going Rogue box, so I should have access to Praetoria and Alignments and all that, right?)

I know Premium players are limited in terms of character slots per server, more limited than I am as a VIP.

My second question is:

Is there a way for me to determine how many character slots I'll have after I drop VIP?

I just want the ability to play my current characters (and whatever else I might make by then), and I know that might require purchasing additional character slots... I just want to know how many I'll need.

My characters are not "toons". They are all project characters, though.

You'll have:

  • 2 character slots for FREE
  • 2 character slots if you purchased Going Rogue prior to Freedom's launch
  • 1 character slot for every year you had previously subscribed
  • 1 character slot for every additional character slot you purchased beyond the base of 12 per server

You MIGHT (but are not guaranteed to) have:
  • 2 character slots if your account was active during the first month if Issue 12's release

Your maximum character slots per server will be limited to 36 (the pre-Freedom maximum; now you can have up to 48 if you pay for them). Since you're Tier 9, you will NOT lose any access to global chat channels, Invention & Auction House systems or Mission Architect. Since you paid for Going Rogue, you will always have access to its mission content, costume options, power sets and the Morality system.

You will lose access to Time Manipulation. You will lose access to the First Ward mission content of Issue 21 (but can still visit the zone if you like). You will lose access to the Signature Story Arcs. Dark Control is coming out soon in Issue 22, and that's a VIP power set... so you'll lose access to it. (All of these can be paid for individually if you like.)

Main Hero: Chad Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1396 Badges
Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges
Mission Architect arcs: Doctor Brainstorm's An Experiment Gone Awry, Arc ID 2093

Epics can NOT be unlocked with the Rewards system, they must be purchased. Yes, you'll have Praetoria and the Alignment system.

You'll have 2 slots (total, not per server!) plus any extras you've earned or purchased. That's +2 if you applied your Going Rogue code before Freedom began, +1 per full year subscribed, +2 if your account was active when the bonus was handed out when purchaseable slots were added, and +1 for each slot you've ever purchased.

EDIT: Curse you, Chad!

Thank you!

Now, I do not recall purchasing any character slots in the past, but it is possible I did.

Is there a method to verify that?

Actually, a much simpler way, now that I think of it:

Log into EVERY server. Make a note of how many character slots you have on each.
Edit: Make sure that you're counting slots (full and empty!), not characters.

For each server with more than 12 slots, you will have (Total number of slots - 12) server slots.

Server slots can be used to unlock characters on that server only.

You will have 2 global slots, plus one global slot for each unclaimed character slot you have (regardless of whether it is purchased or earned). Global slots can be applied to any server (except Exalted), and become Server Slots once applied.

One other thing you'd lose as a Premium: Forum access: When Premium, you can only post to forums flagged "ALL ACCESS", and you have read-only access to the rest of the forums in the English, French and German groups. You will lose ALL access to the Beta forums (you won't even be able to see that they exist).

You will also not be able to pay base rent, so...

a) if you have a solo super group, clear out the storage units and delete them.
b) if you have the red star for a super group, give to someone you know and trust will stay subscribed.

Funny when I dropped to premium and am only tier 5 I had both the veats and heats unlocked. Never had to pay a dime for either of them.

No need to pass the red star. I run a solo SG and a friend joins once a month to pay rent for me. I've kept the Super Leader position for over 5 months now - that part is NOT limited by Premium status.

I have VEATs and HEATs unlocked on both my accounts (and the second isn't even high enough for Controllers and Masterminds!). My girlfriend's account (which is only a few rewards behind my main) doesn't have any Epics unlocked.

I don't know what causes Epics to unlock on some accounts, but according to everything that's been put out by Paragon, it's not intended; Epic ATs have to be paid for, or gained through a subscription.
