Color resets in the costume editor
Is it possible that you are in supergroup mode and those are the SG colors?
You should always be out of SG mode when you visit the tailor.

Its a bug. It happens in this build, didn't happen in the previous, but was introduced in the one before that. It is annoying. Hopefully it will get fixed (again) soon.
It does get annoying having stuff switch back to the charcoal grey and dirty white standard colours.
I've noticed this too.
If it's a bug or not, I'm not sure. But what I do know is that if you scroll through a main part option listing and select the 'none' option, the colors reset to the 1/2, 1/9 colors. It's like the CC can't hold your color choices if there isn't a actual piece selected.
It's an annoying PITA, personally. If it is a bug, I hope it gets squashed soon.

I recently started to notice this bug too and I'll add my voice to those who find it annoying.
I usually like to set both colors of any items I'm not using to the top left full black (1,1) settings. But this silly bug is forcing us to accept these weird new defaults which don't seem to serve any useful purpose. Worse still if you have colors set the way you want and you accidentally scroll around through the "None" option you'll lose them which is very much less than "helpful".
I realize this is not a critical show-stopper but hopefully it'll be addressed eventually.

That's a bug? huh. I've only ever noticed it when the option I'm looking at is set to "none", so I figured that's just how it worked now. You know, to save file size by removing unnecessary data, or something. Well I hope it is a bug then... so it can get royally squished.

I hope this was just some kind of "accidental oversight" that can be switched back without causing too much trouble.

I believe I read somewhere that when you select the brightest white it does something wonky to your color selections.

I noticed this occurs when scrolling through hair optons. I had the colors set, but pass Skin and it's reset.
Happens in Shoulders too, not on none, but close to the top. It's frustrating.

Heh that figures. Hopefully this was a change that actually fixes some latent problem with the costume editor functionality instead of just being someone's idea of a purely "QoL improvement". Sadly if this was just meant to be a "QoL improvement" then I'm pretty sure there are more aspects to it that are annoying than helpful.

The other thing that has been happening to me recently (well last night) is that when I changed from one type of selection to another (robe to tights etc) some of items that can take two colours come up with just a single colour option. The only way to fix it seems to be to move to another type of selection and back again (where normally the actual costume piece you had selected changes to something else).
I didnt put in a bug report as I wasnt sure if it was just impacting my new character and the selections I was trying to pick or all items. Ill have to see if the same thing happens tonight.
And a question;
Has the path auras always shown even when you are not moving? I could swear that they didnt activate until you moved before but now (at least with the autumn aura) grass and leafs are continually growing beneath my feet even when standing still.
I don't know if the devs have read this, but I'd like to reiterate the frustration with this new functionality. It's nothing but a hassle every time I change up a costume part.
If I switch from a jacket to a tight chest costume, but want to keep my shoulders, gloves and belt, now I have to update 6 colors in addition to the chest. Before it was just the chest itself. And if I pick one chest option, update the 6 colors to see how it looks, then go back and pick a robe... change them all AGAIN. And if I don't like that... then AGAIN.
I tend to stick with a color scheme across my costumes. It's more likely that I'm NOT going to change the colors as I make changes.
This really did not need changing and needs to be put back the way it was before.

So I've noticed that as I'm scrolling through options and trying various different costume pieces that my color choices are getting reset to nearly black and nearly white. Is this happening for anyone else? Is this a bug or a new feature?
I tend to stick with color schemes across all my costumes, so this makes adding and changing suits (which I do a lot) rather frustrating. ALSO, the reset button (to revert to the original costume) does not effect the colors, so I have to go back and fix colors for anything I altered but didn't keep. D:
I'm trying to imagine how this new behavior is at all useful, so I'm hoping it's a bug. And maybe while the devs are in there fixing it, they can add a button to swap the two current selected colors (primary to secondary & vice versa), like many graphics editors have. That would be a lovely QOL improvement for me.
