No, Really! Go Back and Roll a Toon in Mercy Island... It *IS* Different!
the lowbie sewer trial is for both heros and villains (its not co op however)
new mercy seems cool. only done a couple of non-sewer trial things, but one of them was a mission where the team snuck into a longbow base, and killed some guys and stole their clothes. nice!
@craggy see me on Union for TFs, SFs (please!) or just some good ol fashioned teaming.
My only disappoint is that villains in Mercy Island don't have an uber-awesome newbie trial like the new AP sewer trial (which I ran with a group late last night). Can a villain-trial counterpart get shortlisted for future content please? The changes we have now are very good but having a low-level villain trial would just make the awesomeness even more uber-awesome (and draw a lot more players back to Mercy Island, I suspect).

Anyone that dismisses the revamped content needs to be hit with a Shivan Meteor.

Awesome, thanks!
There should also be someone, probably an Arachnos official, who's near the trainer in Mercy Isalnd who can give you a briefing about the Trial, as there's a Longbow officer who does that close to Ms. Liberty for the blue side one.
EDIT: And for the near future, the new Halloween Trial they're working on is extremely likely to be a new style Trial as well, accessed only through the LFG tab.

To be fair, if it seems like the relative improvement of Mercy Island's content relative to that in Atlas Park is less, that's more because Atlas Park's previous content was pretty danged bad, so it had more room to improve.
I liked New Mercy enough to place my new main there instead of Paragon City. In addition to being more "evil" I think the new beginning story arcs give new villains more to regret faster (if that is their story) and sets them towards trying to go Rogue soon as it is available.
Who do you think these people pictured below are? Are they immigrants from from the lower slums, or legit Mercy Island citizens being rounded up for securtiy reasons, or are they prisoners from Galaxy City?
When I saw that line I thought they were immigrants wanting to live in the better part of Mercy. Similar to the line of immigrants you see in Grandville.
The line of people in Mercy disappears if you save Mercy from the Longbow or level up past 10.
I agree. It's a whole new experience.
In particular, I'm very happy that the starting experience has been moved to Mercy proper instead of Fort Darwin. Closer to the vault, closer to the black market, doesn't look like a hazard zone, and a courtyard that could actually become a low-level gathering area. Had the Mercy Island revamp consisted of simply moving the old starting experience to Mercy, it still would have been a great change. They did all that, AND revamped the missions? Nice.

What I have to wonder is how "New Mercy" hasn't bumped up the age rating of the game. Within my first day there, I witnessed Arachnos soldiers piling graphic Longbow corpses into a mass grave, throwing out graphic Longbow corpses in the garbage, cakling about "Time to take out the trash." and a man who had a Longbow woman down on the ground and was kicking her in the face. When did City of Villains turn into GTA?
And all the while, I'm running that god-awful stupid Dr. Graves arc that makes me feel like a complete idiot and crippled incompetent who needs to have his hand held the whole way through and is caught between being the lackey of one of two people I do not care about.
If the idea behind the new villain experience was to make me feel EVEN WORSE about playing a villain, then congratulations. It's a smashing success. I never want to deal with any content in Mercy ever again. I might just have to break my own rule and start all my villains in Praetoria. The gameplay there might not be fun, but at least the story isn't so degrading and unpleasant.

hm...I should roll a Villain
Hey, if that works for you, you should. I am, however, kind of disappointed the new update got rid of Kalinda and Moongoose. I mean, they still exist, but they won't speak to me. I honestly would very much prefer to rerun their arcs, or even the Burke/Creed path.
I'm not interested in being EEEVIL, I'm interested in being dignified, and say what you will, but there's more of that with Kalinda and Moongoose.

So, you are made to feel like your hand is being held on a... wait for it... **tutorial** arc? I don't think 'tutorial' means what you think it means.

So, you are made to feel incompetent when you continually best Graves and every other member of your 'Villain Group' and are singled out by one of Recluse's lieutenants and then force the group to acknowledge you as their new leader? I don't think 'incompetent' means what you think it means.

"Incompetent" means exactly what I think it means. Stumbling over backwards into success doesn't demonstrate competence if I didn't show a lick of competence on the way leading up to said success. Actually having Scirocco tell me "I don't think like you do" was simply inexcusable, because that arc makes me think like a low-brow thug with ill-advised ambitions.
The entire arc is one humiliation after another, and what successes it brings don't do much to mitigate this. The game should not make me say and do stupid things.

I honestly can't see how you get that. The necro villain running the group is purposely throwing to contest to make you lose and humiliate you and you manage to best him each and every time. How is that humiliation. You're the one doing the humiliating!
I think it's a great arc. Terrifically fun.

Couple of SG mates have written off checking out the revamped Mercy Island thinking its all the same. Really its not. Its not visually upgraded like the new Atlas Park but the new starting contacts, missions and instanced maps have changed quite dramatically - and for the better!
