Discussion: Announcing the City of Heroes Freedom VIP Head Start! September 13, 2011

Once FREEDOM launches, there will be no more legacy Veteran Rewards and Veteran Reward Badges. A new system, Paragon Rewards, will be in place.


When it comes to Tokens, the FREEDOM launch date will serve as a dividing line: You figure out how many *Tokens* you get up to that point by adding up:

• The number of Vet Badges you have
• The number of Vet Badges divided by four and drop the remainder (representing 1 Token per year subscribed)
• One Token if you ever bought any retail box (this is applied once for a max of one Token.

Then from the launch of FREEDOM and forward, you will get:

• One Free Token for your first reward on the new Paragon Reward tree.
• One Token for every future month subscribed (you get these immediately)
• One Token for every 1,200 Paragon *Points* you purchase with real money (a value of ~$15 per Token)

When it comes to Paragon *Point* rewards, you will get 400 PP per month starting with July (if you were subbed in July). If you sub months ahead of time, this free 400 Point stipend isn't granted all at once, it still gets credited to you at the rate of 400/month. (And if you've reached Reward Level 8, and are 'into' Tier 9, then you get 550 PP / month.)

Try playing a katana user in this game. No love for a long time now.

My guess is that intending the launch to be smoother is a big part of why they did the hardware updates in advance and are still working on those.

That said: If we get I21 with less than 72 hours of Virtue downtime from the start of the announced maintenance window until people have started talking about downtime as if it were not part of the maintenance... I'll be pretty happy. :P

Yeah I have a vet reward due on the 23rd (I think) so would like to know also.

So if I start a brand new account, there exists some number, N, of tokens I could have which would get me into Tier 9, and since Tokens come from Points, if I buy enough Points, I will go from 400 to 550 PP per month. And in general, I'll be getting Tokens about 3x as fast as I was getting Vet Rewards, yes?

This link to the rules seems to be broken - wouldnt want to break any rules now would I ?

Could some-one fix it please or PM the correct link?

I know that feeling, too. But at least there weren't a bunch added, then taken back out, with no indication of why or where (or if) they'll be unlocked somehow, or if they're going to make us pay more on top of already paying for the set to unlock these weapons ala carte or just...what. And even the badge excuse doesn't make much sense, because the one model that would sorta make sense that way, the DUST Cannon (used by enemies who reward a badge), is still enabled by default.

This should be fairly minor overall, but since the look of the set was what made me most psyched about Beam Rifle, this "minor issue" really gets under my skin.

Will there be additional servers & times announced, or is the plan really to just have a major in-game plot event on only two of the classic eleven US servers? For all the marketing hype about existing customers being VIPs, that certainly doesn't bode well.

As a closely-related question, how well balanced is the "multi-level" version of the Praetorian Invasion II for meaningful participation for lower level characters? Some of us still have the semi-disposable characters from the Freedom load test we could fire up again, but the question is whether it's reasonable to plan on being able to actually participate, or just log on for the badge.

Good, good. I was reading the digests looking for just this piece of information.

If one auto-renews monthly for a year, for $180 they get:

• 12 month's subscription ($180)
• 13 Reward Tokens doled out once a month (the extra is for the yearly Token)
• 400 Paragon Points doled out once a month

If one buys a year in advance, and with the savings, buys Paragon Points, and in doing so, get enough Tokens to bump themselves up to Tier 9, they get:

• 12 month's subscription ($143.40)
• 13 Reward Tokens doled out RITE NAO
• 550 Paragon Points doled out once a month (an extra 1,800 from the above plan, which is worth $22.50 in Points)
• 2,800 Paragon Points RITE NAO (spending the $35 savings from yearly account), which gives you ANOTHER 2 TOKENS (1 Token for every 1,200 Paragon Points bought).

Those two plans cost exactly the same in real money. It's really a no-brainer if you plan to be VIP for a year.

Yes, there will be more invasions that the ones listed there. The multi-level invasion will be similar to previous Praetorian Invasions. Low-level characters will be able to participate.

I second this! Already sent off an e-mail to my buddies who once played this game - including the guy who got me hooked just by showing me the costume creator - in the hopes of enticing them to "Jooiin us...joooooiiiiiiiiinnnnn us!"

Now, I have so much to do ahead of time:

-If I can get back onto Beta, see if my plans for respec'ing Teen work out as I have it on my Excel spreadsheet. (Fly at lvl 8, Afterburn at lvl 12. )

-Copying Swiftblade's costume from the Beta saves to the Live saves - and home I get on Exalted in time to get her name.

-Figure out respecs for 30 of my toons (only 29, since I've already handled Teen's) who are lvl 14 or over and already have Fly - and that includes all 12 members of the Flying Stiletto Sorority.

-Plan to be up early enough on Tuesday in order to start the patch download to run while I'm doing the laundry.

One Token per 1,200 Paragon Points bought (which costs $15).

Takes 34 Tokens to break into Tier 9 (completing Reward Level 8). But the first is free. So, that's 33x15 = $495.

It might be $15 cheaper because on Beta, there was an extra Token being granted for buy any points at all the first time. Don't know if that was WAI.
