Second build, what is yours for?

I know we've had the choice to make a second build for a long while now, but I've never felt the need to make one. I'm now starting to think I should make one, but I'm not sure what I'd do with it. I was wondering, what do others use their second build for?

As a role-player, I have one build for "concept" which has all the powers that my toon needs to fit his or her concept most accurately, and then I have a "mishing" build which removes all the powers I don't actually use when running missions (for example, I don't need Invisibility when I have Stealth, Super Speed and a Stealth proc) and tends to add the Leadership pool.

We now have three builds available. I've only ever used two, one for solo and one for team.

I used a second build for ONE purpose... turning my 'troller from a TP artist to a Flying artist. For the presents during the Holiday periods. In Atlas Park, specifically. Where all the presents spawn in a never ending cycle that I can run over and over and over and over...

That's it. I see no other reason for using it.

/well, there's that PvP thing that the idea was when the second build was introduced, but who uses that?

I used it on my Fortunata for a while to give her a Night Widow backup build, though I've pretty much given up on the second build by now.

Second builds just don't tend to be worth the cost for me.

Zilch. I don't use it. Never had a reason to use it that was convincing enough for me, since I don't make "team builds" that I'll never use.

*points to link in signature to guides* I've got a mini-guide that can go into some uses.

As for mine - I don't use it on all characters, not even on all "support" characters. I seem to use it most on Defenders and Corruptors, especially those that have shields of some sort, to do a Solo and a Group build. The Group build will tend to have fewer attacks earlier on (sometimes they come neck in neck near the end, other times not) for more team utility. The Solo build will tend not to have shields.

For instance, my Dark/Thermal corruptor's solo build has only the first, eighth and ninth powers (the self heal, which you have to take anyway, and the two debuffs) with a full primary on her Solo build. Lets me fit concept powers in (especially with inherent stamina) like the Presence pool fears. Group? Full secondary, maybe (at the end) 5 attacks, no nuke, no presence, but carries leadership.

Or my FF/DP Defender - much the same, PFF, Force Bolt, Deflection Shield and Repulsion Field solo, fewer attacks and more shields (and no repulsion field) on the group build.

It can let you try out two different things, too. I've got a Bane I leveled as a Bane (and couldn't stand,) second build is a huntsman I far prefer even on SOs. Same with Widow/Fort. Khelds can try differing levels of forms.

I've used them as "mini-respecs" to try stuff out without nuking my main build or copying to test. And sometimes stuck on that build.

I only have 2 toons that I use a second build for, my widow I have a fortunata build and a night widow build, and my peacebringer I have a triform build and an all human build.

My current Main has two builds, one for content Level 1 to 29, and one for content Level 30 to 50.

My new main once I21 comes out will have three eventually. One for Level 1 to 20, one for Level 21 to 29, and one for Level 30 to 50.

I like to be able to run any and all missions through Flashbacks at as high a difficulty as I can manage by having an exemplar friendly/tailored build for it.

I've only used it once, and it was for a defender. Basically, the second spec became was created to be a low-level, mission team friendly build so flight and 02 boost were taken very early as opposed to the primary build.

I've used them for alternate SoA builds, but mostly I use them as "freespecs" for low-level guys it's not worth burning a real respec on.

Like some of the other VEAT players said, I use one build for a Night Widow build, the second build for a Fortunata build.
My Peacebringer has 2 builds. A Human/Nova build, and a Human/Dwarf build.
Once I get to level 50 with her, and do the Alpha Incarnate arc, I might make a third tri-form build.

There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"

I've got one for an alternate Night Widow build for my Fortunata, but since I already have a Claws/Regen, she pretty much stays in her Fortunata build.

Three of my characters have their second builds just up to level 6 so they can have hover, for basebuilding.

The rest don't need it.

I like the idea of a build for lower lvl TFs and arcs.

Ehh, for the most part, I only use dual builds on my glittersquid - one with heavy slotting in the tentacleblaster form, and the other for lobsteratry.

For almost every other character, I just stick to general-purpose slotting.

I have a second build on my shield tank, for hami. Since hami's such a unique encounter, mechanics-wise, set bonuses (and even enhancement percentages for most powers) just aren't very important; getting max slotted taunt, a ranged attack, and fly is what's actually relevant about a second build, so I didn't need to get anything but SOs for basically everything but taunt.

Otherwise, I don't use second builds at all. It's just too much of a pain in the rear to slot out a second build - more in terms of time and effort than money - and I just don't see any particular need. If I can't make a build I'm happy with for general use, then either I haven't tried hard enough or I need to rethink the character.

My primary build is for soloing. I can team with it, but it is very sub-par for an Inv tank. I didn't mind that, since I very seldom team. But the Incarnate stuff is putting me out into teaming more, so I am working on a build for running TFs and Trials, getting defenses and resists capped and handing out less damage. My third build I am looking at making an exemp build, for running stuff from 25 or 30 down.

I think I only have one character (an Emp/Archery Defender) that has a second build, one for teaming and one for solo. However, I have not played her in a long time. And once she repecs for Inherent fitness and to get Flight down from 3 slots to 1 slot, she will plunder the solo build to recover the KB protection and the Winter's Gift: Slow Resistance that it is using.

No need for the solo build now since the respec will free up 3 power picks and 2 enhancement slots.

My main has one build that works well for solo and teaming. If I ever decided to PvP I'd make a PvP build.. but you know... lolpvp

Cheese i now hate you You know im still upset that i made a 2nd build for my ice/cold and spent over 1.5bill on it only to find it performs slower [but yes safer] than my first build!

I'll get you back ingame!!!!

That being said most of the time i dont use a second build since i try and make my characters have the perfect balance between solo and team.

Yes, I made this thread just to rub it in! WAH HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Seriously though, thanks to everyone who's replied to this thread so far. I'm still considering whether to make second builds, or just stick to the one I have on each toon which works fine in most situations anyway.

Generally they are PvP builds.

Exception is my SPider that has a MasterCrab build and a Bane Spider build that I switch between for multiple AV fights and so on.

I only use a second build on my support characters. I use one build primarily for soloing where I ignore team buffs/heals/rezzes and focus on my offensive strengths, and the second build is focused on supporting teammates.
