All Trainers will be Tailors

Let's face it, nobody's going to quit subbing because the trainers are tailors. I'm not.

But I do think it's sad that that fact is undoubtedly more important to the devs than wether or not its a liked feature to a majority of players.

"for a lot of players, this will make their overall game experience less fun. But they'll still sub, so it doesn't matter" is probably sth that has been said in some form.

On the positive side, since hopefully there is one, if more exposure to the Parahon Store does succeed in noticeable higher income, then thry've got more funds for making cool stuff like First Ward and Street Justice, and more incentive to keep the game going.

I don't mind the change, but I'd much rather prefer they add an Icon to every zone instead, with power-suppressing, well-lit backrooms. And more Universities/Labs. And Wentworth's/Black Markets. More utility buildings in general, rather than adding functionality in places that make little sense.

One reason is the trainers aren't the 'cosmetic surgeon' type of tailors. No changes to the scales or body types as you can do with the science pack. Only costume and power changes.

I can see how it would be helpful, but I think unnecessary, especially with more 'true' tailors being added. I know it could make things more annoying to train if miss liberty has a TON of players taking forever to adjust their hair around her.

My suggestion, just to keep the theme of the NPCs more consistent:
1) Give the trainers the ability to customize your powers, but not your costume. Trainers deal with powers, so it would make sense that you get a new power and you might want to adjust the look of it. Yes, you can adjust them ahead of time but after using it for real you may change your mind.
2) If the need to adjust your costume is that great, add more tailors, just standing on the street even, in various zones, away from the trainers so there isn't a huge crowd blocking you.
4) Add remote tailor access, like the AE, vault, and auction house commands. Maybe this as a vet reward? Purchasable item in the new store?
3) Kinda off topic, but add the Null The Gull options to the notoriety contacts, and make Null the notoriety contact in Pocket D. The options there go pretty well with the Null options, and would make it easier to adjust those, like the movement options, between missions...some cave maps, I may want the super speed off, but others I do want it. It can be a hike to and from Null just to change that. Or check which AVs left to get while in PI.

Yeah, it's be great fun, with everybody crowding around Ms Liberty for half an hour while they play with their costume, everybody spamming their newly customized powers, everybody spamming their old customized powers just because that's what people do in any place where players congregate....bad change.

I love that they added actual tailors to the starter zones though. The jog to the RWZ or Cap is easy, true, but new players won't know to go there.

You kids these days with your "We want convenience!" whining!

Back when I started, we didn't have multiple costume slots, and we didn't even have Icon stores! You rolled your character, and whatever costume you picked, THAT WAS IT! "Oh, I wish I had a red shirt instead of a green one!" Yeah, well, DELETE your character and make a new one! "But I'm level 40!" Suck it up, you Nancy; that's why they gave you a whopping EIGHT character slots!

And we LIKED it that way!

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

If you don't like trainers being tailors then don't use them. No sense in limiting other players for the "immersion" of the game.

I like it and think people are trying really hard to be upset about things. icon is still there and i'l l still use it, for large costumes, but if i need a small adjustment, its good i dont have to zone to vanguard a few times like i have been doing.

Same here.

Yes to BOTH the power-suppressing AND well-lit rooms. I've often made a costume change, only to see it in the "real" world outside and go, "Oh come on, really?"

And still another reason for pointless crowding around the trainers. When I first got to New AP over in Beta, I wasn't entirely sure Ms. Liberty was there at first. I thought maybe her absence was part of the (IMO rather bizarre) zone revamp/retheme. But no, it was just that she was utterly swamped, like Elvis at a middle school dance. By people who, as is usually the case, couldn't be bothered to shut off their auras and PBAoE powers while they futzed with their costumes.

No, sir, I do not like it.

And those are precisely the kinds of unintended consequences that aren't really obvious. Once the launch goes live and the influx of new players begins, it will doubtless seem obvious in retrospect. And of course it will be too late.

Why not simply add a tailor store and/or NPC to a central location in the various zones? Converting existing trainers just seems like corner-cutting.

This. This, this, this. I do not understand why there isn't more of this stuff. If you don't have an SG, you are basically screwed on so many fronts.

Ahahah, I remember those days... but not with fondness. NO one liked it that way :P

Yeah, I'm against this change. It's more pointless annoyance in the name of convenience.

While I'm pretty "eh" about the change myself (it'll be useful for little changes like color to me, but otherwise,w ell....) I don't agree with you on either of the above.

Traffic jams at the trainers? You've seen Icon when a new pack or issue with bits are released, right? Jam packed, can't reach the couple of tailors, etc. (Worst of all on Virtue.) Now? People will go where it's convenient to them - two spots in Atlas/Mercy, three in Cap (two trainers plus the people in FM) - it'll definitely relieve congestion.

As for making the actual tailors obsolete - I doubt it. You'll still have to go there to run the various missions (though we're going to be able to buy new slots,) the SuperTailors are there, and some people are just going to want to use Icon/FM instead of a tailor so they won't be bugged by people training.

And where will people go to level up when they so they won't be bugged by people changing costumes/power customizations?

Here's hoping we can get within clicking distance of Miss Liberty when Atlas Park is the venue for a costume contest.

This.
Real cities have plenty of stores that sell clothes. Might as well reflect that in-game.
And why would trainers bother with costumes? Might as well let us access the Auction House through them too.

It would be nice to have a "no powers" room and a "powers" room, preferably with target dummies so you can see how your attacks look in the real world and allied target dummies so you can see how your buffs look.

Yes yes YES to better lighting.

Much like labeling something a "cop-out" is.

No, a cop-out is a cop-out. If he wants to say something, then he should say it.

He did. And you called it a cop out. Like it or not, "immersion" *is* a factor for some people. If it isn't for you, then it isn't for you - but that doesn't make it a non-valid argument (or a "cop out.")

I think I should just let my own opinion be known here: some while back, I came to a simple conclusion that when designing a videogame Fun >>> Realistic/immersion. Is it realistic that my scrapper with a steel katana does more damage than your tanker's super strength to a robot armored like a tank? Not really, but is it fun? YES! YES! YES! YES!

Admittedly, the above situation is tough to compare with trainers being costume tailors, and fun is a fickle and subjective thing.

The bottomline question is: Is it FUN for you? It is for me, because when the Beta servers went into Freemium testing, I whiled the time away while my katana scrapper sucked to play with his ten costume slots at the nearest tailor I could find.
