"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

Wow, is that an Abbot and Costello reference? Rare!

Skyway doesn't even have any skyways.

In the Freedom Phalanx novel, Skyway came off as this slightly decaying art deco landscape of glass walk ways and express lifts between grand buildings studded with broadcast communications towers and dishes. Kind of a juxtaposition of the Jet Age promise that never was with the grim reality of 1980's urban tech sprawl.

In-game, it's a gray oversized zone with huge, ugly, mostly empty highways that don't go anywhere.

Yeah.

Panorama City, Studio City - Los Angeles.
City Line - Brooklyn
City Island - Bronx
Lake City, Columbia City, Hillman City - Seattle
Center City, Martin City - Kansas City
Vine City - Atlanta
etc...

Pick any major American metropolitan area and you will likely find at least one neighborhood named "something City". Often they will have once been a seperate city now incorporated into a larger city. Some may still have distinct governmental hierarchy of their own, others none at all. This is a common phenomenon in the real world.

Neighborhoods named "something Park" may or may not HAVE a park, may or may not have BEEN a park.

Truth or Consequences, NM was renamed from Hot Springs when the TV show "Truth or Consequences" announced they would broadcast from the first place that named itself after the show.

Federal Way, WA took its name from the Federal Way school district - which had simply been named after Federal Highway US 99 (which is now State Route 99) as there was no actual municipality covering the area at the time. Skyway City is hardly a stretch and in fact is quite realistic and sensible.

Galaxy City, of course, takes its name from Galaxy Girl.

I really like the Freedom Phalanx novel for that. Also, I'd love to see the Three Sisters restaurant in game.

So why, when you have the entirety of the English language to chose from, do you use the word CITY when naming neighborhoods?
To give the game some depth and immersion? For all the reasons stated here about how actual "city" names exist in the U.S., I don't think it's any stretch of the imagination to assume that the writers/creators of lore in the CoH/V universe wanted to give some meaningful background to Paragon City. Giving them these names inserts some depth that the city aged and came to be just like normal cities do in the real world.

So would I.

I don't have the novel on hand at this exact moment, but wasn't it supposed to be in Steel Canyon? If so, maybe they'll put it in if they ever give Steel the revamp treatment.

And Manticore's mansion, wherever it's supposed to be.
And Statesman's building.

There was a segment on a SNL Weekend Update once in which the anchor (Dennis Miller? Kevin Nealon? Can't remember.) started off by saying, "Wonder Bread, which is neither, ..." I don't remember anything after that.

I have a friend whose last name is Johnson, even though his dad was David. That's GOT to be awkward.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

My family moved to the general Seattle area in the seventies, just in time for the big recession back then. One result of that recession was that the freeway expansion that was intended to connect Interstate 90 with Interstate 5 was all but abandoned. For nearly two decades, you had these off-ramps leading off into thin-air and exits to nowhere, right in the heart of the city. That image is what I think of when I think of Skyway City.

I think the zone should have had a few never-completed off-ramps and such to emphasize the idea of grandiose dreams, never fully realized.

There is a neighborhood in Seattle called Lake City. There's probably other towns/cities/metropolises that utilize the same thing. So there is REAL WORLD precedence to name neighborhoods using the word "city".
