The Wow! Factor

What toons do you have that have that Wow Factor? Meaning.....what toons were you pleasantly surprised about their performance and/or were more fun than expected? Perhaps even a toon that is so much fun and/or badazz that your other alts rarely get time off the shelf. I understand your fun may be different than mine....but I'd like to hear about yours.

I am in search of the my next "Wow!"

Personally I am totally digging my electric shields scrapper. It was a pleasant surprise to me how much fun AND how much carnage he could dish out. After 5 years of playing....this toon has really brought me back. Two teleport big bang powers is fun....I tell you. Great for teaming, TFs, and soloing. Pure carnage but good in many situations. Alot of times I'd make a toon with a purpose....but then I'd have to give up something to get to my build goal. I just dont see it with Ele/SD. That's part of my wow experience I suppose.

Lately I've been hitting forums I usually don't and see that Plant and Electic doms or trollers have been getting some good press.

Maybe even some late bloomers that many do not know about (or just me). For instance.....my D3 defender was somewhat brutal on boss fights until fully mature (that was before the difficulty slider too). But boy was it a fun toon....and thematic too.

Anyway....thought I'd ask and see if anyone wanted to tell me about their fun/strong/favorite toons that wow'd em.

The first time you hit level 6 and use Spin on a group of 7 or more +1 mobs out on the street with a Claws/ brute and they all die in 1 hit but the lieutenant who is badly wounded. That's a serious Wow! moment right there.

And on plants/ when you get carrion creepers and they obliterate and entire ambush on a 6+ player mission.

Using the real nukes with a blaster never gets old either. I mean the ones with a crash, not rain of arrows or hail of bullets that are just high damage AoEs, no I mean the one-hit kill even the bosses powers. Love those.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

Thx Gavin...I was worrying that people were just going through the motions and not getting their wow quota.

Btw....I totally forgot about Inferno goodness. It NEVER gets old...you are right (first toon in 2004 was fire/fire blaster )

What press are you reading? Typically there is mass love of Plant builds on the controller forum. Certainly Plant/storm is one of the more loved builds there. I have a level 50 myself. If you want to go Plant, I say Plant/storm with either /ice, or /fire for epic. I went /ice since it has better powers. The dom version would be Plant/fire/ice, or Plant/fire/fire. Visually it is one of the best parings. Seeds you get early so it develops quickly and just builds from there. Credible control, damage, debuffs, and can be built to be rather defensive if you wish via epics and the Incarnate system.

Hmm,

the first time I saw my Robotic MM in action after getting the level 32 upgrade. (this was awhile ago.. not long after CoV's release)

The laser light show and swarm of missiles, leaving fire patches all over.. one of the few things in this game that has actually caused my jaw to drop xD

Blasters, as a whole, have gotten me optimistic about finding some crazy-fun combination eventually. Right now my prominent one is fire/mental, a lvl 35 ranged hover blaster... But I know the AT offers much more variety.. The secondary sets seem sort of scant, though. :/

Umm....That is what I said (poorly I suppose). I dont usually read over the controller forums as often as others. Recently when I did.....I saw alot of love for plant and electric. Thanks for the info on plant....good stuff.

I miss being able to play MMs. Fix pet AI, please.

KM anything for me. Looking at the numbers I thought it was bad. Playing it I find it even worse than on paper... But it's just so much fun, I don't give a damn.

It's incarnate powers rather than specific combos that make me "wow" personally, as there's so many great things you can do with that to make so-so combos much more interesting. Cardiac and Barrier to boost a tanker very close to the 90% resistance cap. Rebirth +regen to change a widow from merely softcapped and will die eventually to so high regen it's going to take lots of firepower to take her down. Ageless +recov on characters that just wouldn't work at the level they can now without the massive recovery. That sort of thing.

For me so far..

Shield/Fire Tank
Fire/Psi Dom
Earth/Fire Dom
Elec/Shield Brute
Elec/Psi/Dom
Thugs/Traps MM
Cold/Ice Defender
Ice/Thorns Dom
Cold/Ice controller

Runner up... Rad/Fire Blaster.. just couldnt make the build work the way I wanted too...

Also realize WoW is different for different people.. and I think also dependent on your build..

For me its more of what each toon can do.. sometimes its the damage outpost.. sometimes its how the powers look.. sometimes its how effective that toon can be in the given circumstances..

Example. my Ice/Thorns Dom is way better than I expected it to be.. My Ice/Cold controller is not very good on damage.. it is very good on control. It can make a mobs day a living hell....

So WoW might be totally different things for different people..

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

I am in search of the my next "Wow!"
My favorite character is far and away my MFing Warshade. The learning experience, the leveling, the level 50 play, the incarnate play... all of it was and is absolutely phenomenal. One of the biggest reasons is that every new power seemed to revolutionize the way I play. The closest thing I can compare this to is how most controller get a pet at level 32. At that point, everything changes. You're able to do things you never could before. But this happens with a warshade for almost every new power! Beyond that even, there were so many times where I thought "If I only had a few more slots!"

I had so much fun playing that warshade that I wrote a guide for it. Hell, the guide practically wrote itself. For additional enticement, read this:

It can also perma stun ten targets, perma hold one, and even stun bosses in a single shot. It has mez protection with an 80% hitpoints bonus on demand. It can even shrug off defeat twice every five minutes.

So what did Dechs recommend then? Something unexpected, I'd wager?

For me it's Carrion Creepers. At a Rikti Raid. With a few PROCs and Interface slotted in it.

There's my SS/Elec Brute which can handle pretty much everything, but I have so much invested in him it's not really surprising.

I have to say my namesake Empath surprised me the most, check out the video in my sig for the reason why. The day I found out recharge buffs affect lore pets.

When I play my PB(pure human form) on teams I get the "Wow that PB is hard to kill", but the wow factor for me is my Fortunata. It has a nice balance of ST Damage, AoE, Defense, Self Buff, Team Buff, Stealth and now Debuff (Darkest Night from the PPP). I am a fan of Epic AT's and they are my favorite to play. You can take away every AT in the game except Epic AT's and I will still be a happy man.

My favorite Epic AT's in order for PvE
1. Fortunata
2. Peacebringer (Tri Form Build)
3. Bane (Huntman Build)
4. Warshade (Human Build)

Proton Sentry Peacebringer:lvl 50+++ - Human Build / Triform Build
Quasar Sentry Warshade:lvl 50+- Human Build / Triform Build
Red Katipo Arachnos Soldier:lvl 50+++ - Crab Build / Bane Build
Black Katipo Arachnos Widowlvl 50+++ - Fortunata Build / Night Widow Build

Carni,

Can I call you Carni?

How 'bout just Fax then?

Ok. So Faxy, here's the deal: The way I see it, a Warshade is just so much fun, that it'd be a crime not to recommend it. I'd have to turn myself in and everything. They'd lock me up and throw away the key.

And there'd be torture.

You wouldn't want to put me through that, would you?

All of these make other players go wow.

Inferno on my corruptor. Yea... that much damage for my whole blue bar? Wow... how lame.
I'll admit it probably at level 32 (when you get it), so no IOs or whatnot, but still haven't thought have taking it after I respec'd out of during the 40s.

Other than that, brutes and scrappers. Mind you, not the ones you see everyday running around and faceplanting in your teams. No, I'm talking about those level 8 Kat/ or BS/ who stand tall after clearing a few packs while the rest of the team was cleaning the floor.

And, last but not least, my Night Widow. Really destructive and, despite faceplanting a few times during an ITF a few days ago, made another member of the team decided to 'roll one and do that too". Was pretty epic claw-ripping tbh.

My Fire/Fire/Fire perma dom. A Blaster with crowd control. Slotted for dmg, dmg, dmg, and recharge, it took a T3 cardiac to make his endurance managable even with a free blue bar every 90 seconds, but everything gets melted in seconds.

Edit: If you can stay alive anyways!

I'm running three characters these days. I get a different "wow factor" from each; and I find each of them to be a lot of fun.

Traps/DP Defender: Great debuffs and AoE damage. High defense and recharge means that he's always right in thick of things and doubling up on the debuffs. He has Reactive and uses a lot of procs. I love it when I can use my caltrops knock a mob down and set them on fire, especially against KoA.

Dark Miasma/Assault Rifle Defender: This guy is kind of my homage to Weird War Tales: A Zombie Soldier. The wow factor for me came from the first time I did this: Toggle pull with Darkest Night, bunch them in a corner->Tar Patch->Ignite->Flamethrower

Illusion Control/Trick Arrow Controller: The wow for me is the synergy between these sets. I think TA really complements Illusion. I'm enjoying the debuffs and the extra control that it gives. Pretty soon he'll have Oil Slick Arrow, and more fire.

Wow, this post kind of makes me sound like a pyro.

Currently my Fire/traps has a solution for every "opportunity" that pops up. The only non melee toon I have played that handles scrapperlock with a smile.

I had a level 30 Crab that had kind of run out of gas a few years ago. I decided to take advantage of the new second Build option that had been added to the game, and created a Bane build. Wow! He's now level 50 and chewing through the Incarnate missions. With T4 Musculature, his attacks do 128% damage.

Plus, walking up behind a purple enemy, tapping him on the shoulder, and bringing down his Mace in a Shatter attack is the best sound/look/feeling that this game has to offer. Very satisfying!

I hate Controllers.

No seriously. I really dislike them. I've never successfully played one because of how painfully they solo and how it seems to take forever to kill anything. Hate them. Give me a Dominator anytime and twice on Sunday....

And then I rolled my Plant/Storm.

Seriously. They are as good as you've heard. Even at level 18, I was Dropping Seeds, Roots and Freezing Rain and then giggling maniacally as mobs decimated themselves. And that was solo. And with a level 50 Stormy, I know what chaos is coming further down the line. I just can't wait to see what chaos it causes with Plant adding controls and damage.

Plant/Storm. When you absolutely, definitely have to obliterate everything in the room.

I know some of these have been mentioned. I was surprised how much synergy some of these thematic pairing of sets have:

Ill/TA Controller
Fire/Cold Controller
Plant/Storm Controller
Dark/Fiery Brute
Fire/Dark Corruptor
Kin/SD Scrapper
Earth/Fire Dom
Mind/Psi Dom

My mind / Ice Permadom completely WOw'ed me in every way possible #1

My Archery/Mental Blaster WOw'ed me, I can not believe how low health she can get and still not die, it's crazy.

The first time I slotted for KB protection I was Wow'ed at not being thrown back anymore, ahhh set bonuses are nice!

Being on a pvp team in Siren's Call for the first time Wow'ed me <----adrenaline rush!

My earth / storm 'troller (Mother Nature level 43) is so much fun to play , at all levels she is amazing and fun and useful--- She was the major one on heroes that said FUN FUN FUN to me, and when I don't play her for a bit and go back, I'm always reminded, omg I forgot how much FUN this char is

Finally the smoothness of My first 50 and main character an E3 Blaster still Wow'es me whenever I play her, I love draining foes end then smashing them before they know what hits them! muhahaha!

My EC/elec dom was fairly surprising, especially when I experienced the re-apply of sleep in Static Field.

My most recent surprise is my Earth/Cold controller. I can't solo worth crap, but on teams, it's a huge synergy multiplier.
