Quote:What form did you use?Staff/Fire Cave, about an hour. SS/Fire Cave, about 40 minutes. Staff has more defense, more utility, levels easier, and is more easily adpated to non-farming. I'd say that's good enough. I would like to see more ST damage out of the set, but It's good enough as is, just not superb like the few outliers.

Earth/Rad is a great pairing as a team support build. Any pairing works; theme is limited only by your imagination.
A few posters mentioned a Gorgon (e.g. Medusa) theme using Earth/Poison in combination. I'm not a big fan of /Poison in its current state but I think it would make a decent pairing.
I have heard rumors on one of the live global chat channels discussing a new secondary in the works. If its of the same caliber of the two Dark sets Controllers received, it may be worth the wait and a good thematic pairing. Food for thought. -
Quote:The ST debuffs have an 8' radius splash effect that are consider an AoE. The debuff values are half for anything that gets "splashed". Thats what Mids is probably reporting.Mid's says the debuffs are AoE for MM's..I guess it needs a update?
Personally, I'd never take Neurotoxic Breath cause it doesn't do damage. Mitagation becomes less and less attractive to me. Although, I could see it being effective for a MM...I'd never say it was the best Poison power..
My problem with Neurotoxic Breath is that its a very narrow cone and requires lots of repositioning to maximize targets. Expanding the arc of the cone would go a long way to improving this power.
Despite all the attention /Poison received recently I think it deserves another look. A few suggestions I hope the devs would consider for /Poison are:
- Make Alkaloid a HoT possbily adding a splashing AoE effect
- Look at increasing the ST debuffs to a 10-12' radius
- Increase the arc of Neurotoxic Breath to 45-90 degrees
- Increase the radius of Venomous Gas to 20'

Quote:I think your assessment is correct for ST. Spectral will allow you to set up containment on AVs during phases that PTOD (2/3rds of the time) are up. I wouldn't expect it to increase your ST DPS past 16% however (not including the negative energy proc). It will be tough for other Interface procs to beat that increase considering their secondary effects are heavily resisted or are calculated from base numbers before level scaling. On the flip side Containment is not resisted.Well as a mind/ff controller my primary attack chain would consist of Mesmerize, Dominate and Levitate. My aoes would consist of Terroize (slotted for damage), and Psionic Tornado. I was considering Repulsion Bomb as another aoe but it doesn't benefit from containment so I am iffy on that one and even if I did take it the spectral interface's immobilize effect wouldn't help for that power.
But the three single target powers I listed would all be cycled relatively quickly. When fully IO'd out the recharge time for each of those 3 attacks would be 1.76s, 2.13s and 1.56s respectively. With the two aoes having 10.31s recharge time for Terrorize and 5.67s for Psionic Tornado.
I'm figuring since containment basically doubles my damage its a bigger benefit than the -res debuff from reactive, especially since I have no pets (not counting lore pets) as a Mind controller.
As far as AoE damage I do believe Spectral could help if you are careful but I doubt its contribution will be anything amazing. The biggest problem I see is that the nature of the damage proc is a DoT and will interfere with your main source of AoE containment provided by Mass Hypnosis. You would have to pay close attention to when you leveraged your sleep for containment. Its Immob proc rate and duration are too low to offset the loss of containment if you are not careful. With the above in consideration I don't see why it wouldn't be a better choice than some of the other Interface option for Mind/FF/Psi. For my playstyle Cognitive is the only other one that looks like a competitive choice for regular content. -
Quote:What powers do you have and how often do you use them? What would the general thought be on the spectral interface incarnate power for a mind/ff controller?
I'm toying with the idea of using it (the one with the 12% immob/75% dot) with the thought that I'd get more containment uptime with a chance to immobilize with every attack.
Is this a good line of thinking? I'd love to hear some opinions. -
Quote:Last time I checked Immobilize does set up containment. Most pets propagate any Interface powers. The Tier 4 Interface powers give a 12% and 20% respectively. Much more effective than waiting 60+ seconds (on an extremely high recharge build) to set up containment. The Spectral Interface adds a chance for Immobilize to damage powers (only 4% chance for a 2 second Immob) . . . but Illusion has no AoE damage powers, so Spectral Interface won't add AoE Containment to Illusion. Maybe to your AoE damage power from your APP set, but not to Illusion.
-
I ended up taking all powers from both my Primary and Secondary. Unlike other combos with Illusion/ I find myself using all the powers even at higher levels.

I'm not sure Mids works the way you want it to.
Unless the person viewing your build made the same modifications to their Mids as you did, they wont see the build as you do. -
Quote:I believe that in the past Cast Time was needed to calculate the Recharge needed to "perma" powers. In the modern game this is no longer necessary. I suspect that at some point powers were normalized to where Cast Time no longer affected Power Duration time. This is off slightly, as powers don't begin to recharge until the casting has finished, while the duration begins at casting. This can significantly affect powers where Rech Bonus Needed * Cast / Base Rech is not small. Anyway the formula for required recharge to make something perma is:
RechNeeded = BaseRech / (Duration - Cast) - 1
For Haunt that's...
RechNeeded = 210s / (60s - 2.33s) - 1
RechNeeded = 2.641 = +264.1%
So that's +14.1% more than calculated ignoring the Cast time above. Not small in terms of Set Bonuses, but since you're going to need Hasten to get there getting it's - Hasten's that is - up time improved with each bonus helps.
Without going crazy and listing all the math... it should be possible with about 93% Global using soft-capped slotting in Haunt, a Spiritual or Agility T3 and putting Hasten on auto-fire with 2 L50 IOs in it. That gives no margin for delay in casting Haunt though, of course. That formulation is roughly what I consider the minimum possible Global needed. 3-slotting Hasten could lower that a bit, but I'm usually slot-poor, so my base formula assumes 2.
The formula (RechNeeded = BaseRech / (Duration) - 1) seems to be the rule. This means getting that figure or more will make the specific power perma. I am not aware of any exceptions though I wouldn't doubt it if any outliers existed.
If this is incorrect I would like to hear an explanation of how it works in game. -
Plant/ is a great control set, but it's definitly not the "best" at everything. It's a top tier damage set; most criticism paint the set as a "one trick pony". I personally think its a "two trick pony" and does them well.(AoE Confuse and AoE damage)
/Poison is better than it was but the tiny 8' splash debuffs don't fix the set in my eyes. I think the set needs another look to bring it up to par with it's peers. I vote for /Cold unless you are going for a theme. If /Cold doesn't float your boat I would recommend Plant/Storm as well.
I don't see any particular synergies between the two but I may be missing something. I'm currently playing an Elec/Poison and had a Thugs/Poison. -
Recharge needed=(power native cooldown/power duration)-1
In your case you would need to make up 230% (with Hasten active) this includes enhancements/alpha slot and global recharge from IOs. Assuming 100% recharge from enhancements you would need about 130% in global recharge and alpha slot (post ED). -
Also bear in mind that Soul Absorption (Dark Affinity) has not been patched yet. The anticipated buffs look like they may alleviate some of the endurance issues you are experiencing in longer battles.

Thanks Codewalker!
Didn't see any of these in the patch notes, but here's some difference from Live that I've noticed so far:
Controllers / Dominators- Electric Control / Gremlins:
Live:40% Resistant to Energy
Beta:
40% Resistant to Energy
30% Resistant to Smashing, Lethal
- Ice Control / Jack Frost:
Live:60% Resistant to Cold
Beta:
10% Resistant to Fire
60% Resistant to Cold
10% Resistant to Fire
25% Defense vs. Smashing, Lethal, Energy, Negative Energy, Psionic, AOE
35% Defense vs. Fire, Cold
- Plant Control / Fly Trap:
Live:20% Resistant to Smashing, Toxic, Psionic
Beta:
-10% Resistant to Negative, Fire, Cold
25% Defense vs. Psionic
30% Resistant to Smashing, Energy, Negative Energy, Cold, Toxic, Psionic
25% Defense vs. Psionic
+200% Regeneration
- Titan Weapons / Crushing Blow
PvP Damage of fast version increased from 80 to 112.
PvP Damage of slow version increased from 108.7 to 152.2.
- Trick Arrow / Poison Gas Arrow
Now accepts Accuracy enhancements.
The sleep pulses from the patch now have 1.5 accuracy, and hit 100% of the time in PvE instead of only having a 66% chance to proc.
Duration of the Mastermind version fixed to be 20 seconds like the others and not 4.
- Electric Control / Gremlins:

I would have guessed it was going to be a shadow simulacrum. Good info. Thanks!

Quote:Fissure only has a 50% chance of stunning. Its not reliable enough for stacking with T-clap IMO. Tornado is a much better choice than T-clap. However, without Frostbite Tornado is quite chaotic and tends to scatter mobs. It is still usefull against single hard targets or as an "oh crap" button, but the results will be very chaotic indeed.Hey all, long time reader, first time poster. I'm at work so I can't post my build right now, my ice/storm/stone only has room for thunder clap or tornado and I was wondering what the other stormies out there think would be better. Should I take clap to stack disorients with fissure or nado to debuff, keep in mind i don't have frostbite in my build so I can't plant the baddies and use nado as an aoe. One last thing, I have 45 s/l def and 45 ranged def, is that enough protection. Thanks in advance for the responses I can post my build later when I get home if necessary.
45% Def to both Ranged and S/L is more than enough, however for most Praetorian content the number to reach is 59%. (No. I personally don't recommend that you try to reach 59% Def with IOs.) Considering your selection of sets, I could easily see achieving softcap to S/L. I am intererested to see how you pulled off softcapping to both and what tradeoffs you made to get there. -
In addition to the data chunck, insight as to your typical attack sequence would also shed some light on your endurance woes.

Good! Its about time Gravity got some love!
Ice could use a second look as well IMO. -
Quote:Okay, so this is my FIRST build ever, and need ALOT of help critiquing my build. I don't have a clue about IO sets and bonus's that are needed. I'm trying for a DM/FA/MU Brute based only for AE farms. I tried my best slotting this build, I don't understand what I slotted do to not knowing what IO sets I needed.
*If possible try not to alter the skills, unless a good point is being proved.*Although, feel free to alter the slotting in any way.
I was short on time earlier. I have more time for some comments for you.
First off for farming I would recommend an SS/FA Brute. DM/ doesn't have the AoE that SS/ has. I assume you already have this character so lets proceed.
I recommend Defense and Recharge bonuses for farming purposes. The build I posted shows you what IO sets and slotting you may want to consider inorder to reach these goals.
As far as your power selection goes, overall your power choices look solid. Without IOs its hard to tell how effective your build would be. Slot allocation looks funny in some places (e.g over or underslotted powers)
Two things stick out. I would absolutely find a way in get Midnight Grasp in the build. Its hits hard and will help immobilize runners as you turn them into ashes. It is essential to your top DPS chain. I also recommend dropping Acrobatics. You can protect against KB attacks using IOs. I wouldn't waste the power selection on Acrobatics.
Thats about it. Good luck.
