*sniff* You made my day, Emp.

You're right though....my best friends in game were ones I either met on PUGs or via people I met on PUGs.

Some of the biggest idiots I've met, I've met through PUGs as well.

Nonsense. Good luck to them.

'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.

-I'm not leaving Champion, majority of my toons will stay.

-1-2 toons will go to VIP server.

-Looking forward to new players help the Server and game grow!

-Will enjoy old players coming back, especially ones with financial priorities that couldn't stick around.

-Agreed we were all new at one time and needed that someone to help learn the game. I'll enjoy showing new players how to play. However I wont PL them.

Umm...why are people talking like it has to be Champion OR the VIP server? You do know you can play on multiple servers and still talk to and play with the cool people you've met?

/signed.

Damn straight.

This game has a forum?

I’m sure most of us have enough toons to park a few over on the new VIP only server if need be. But I really don’t see our game-play changing all that much on Champion since we mainly stick to the same groups of people anyway.

Enjoy

So not true, most of my teams I gather are PuGs.

I'm looking forward to it becoming F2P, yeah other games have done it, and it's turned out badly.

But it'll bring back players that left due to monetary reasons and people will come back to try the new changes. And the free accounts can't send tells or broadcast so it's possible to steer clear of them if you want to.

It's all good!

Okay, Ill say it.... marketing gimmick.

There will be enough "VIP" players to keep $X coming in, but when it comes to micro-transactions, as a general rule, 90% of the money comes from 10% of the players. As we have seen time and time again, there are those that have to have every booster, every costume code, every badge... those obessive compulsive folk have deep pockets and will make up the difference in 'lost' revenue.

In the end, the population will go up, but the gross revenue flat. Is it a good thing.... maybe. Its a nice hook to get people to try, but for every person that is leaning to actually play the game, there will be enough jerks to thin them to the point of "in the noise". I am giving up CoH anyways, but it will be a small comfort to know I can log in and kick some random $#%#$% when I dont feel like playing TF2, SC2, Civ5, etc...

Just need to figure out the whole 2 characters + earned slots works for seeing which of my heroes I will still have and which to strip the IO's from.

If it ever came down to that, I have enough earned and purchased slots to unlock all my characters on Champion, and that's good enough for me.

Same here, but i have no intention of dropping my sub. The perks of maintaining it far outweigh the modest fee i pay every six months. IMO, YMMV, PNB, ONVIAR...

And, like the gated community that apparantly has deluded itself into thinking that punk kids can't jump or climb things, I imagine they'll be in for the same surprise. The VIP server won't filter out annoying players anymore than Champion's extant setup already does. It just guarantees that if you DO get annoyed by a new player, they'll have full access to begging you for PL/Inf in tells, Mission Architect, and broadcast/request spam... Hrm... Sticking around gets even better the more I think about it...

Also, welcome home Helms
Earlier this week I read that CoH was going free to play. That is actually what brought me back to the game that I have missed and once loved so much. It looks to be bringing back old player more than bringing in new players. That is just my opinion on that. I have actually talked with a few (15ish) players who use to play. They are all very excited about the free to play option as am I.

The VIP server I am sure will probably win out in the end. Think of all the old friends that may be coming back. If you jump ship right off the start you may miss out on some good times.

Never been much on words but wanted to make my first post in about 4 years. Looking forward to seeing you all in game again.

I'm thinking a 80/20 split of my roster in favor of the vip server along with the Mrs as well I imagine when we come back. A decent mix of Support/Damage on both would be ideal.

But of course Champion won't have seen the last of us.

Surely this is no big deal...I remember when everyone would drool/fight over new players to get them in their SGs in order to use/abuse them while the noobs made their SGs some funds...somehow we all survived that...

I didn't leave Champion for a year to come back (thank you EG) only to end up leaving again, in fact, I have no intention of ever leaving and cannot freakin' wait to see a bunch of old faces coming back -- I've already seen at least 5 people return recently, how much does that rock?!?!

I may take a few of my Freedom toons and move them to the VIP server since I don't have much room left on Champion to port them here but that is about it.

Anyone that decides to head out certainly has the right to do so, and heck, may find a whole new world of other people they really enjoy playing with -- if so, good for them...no harm done really...like others have said, we all pretty much have a set group of people we team up with anyway

One question I would need answered before I move any toons to the new VIP server is what happens SG wise..in that do I need to recreate my SG base and all its little storage spots? or do I need to rebuild the SG and base since that is what needs to be done if I transfer a toon to a new server. Granted I can keep a toon or two on champion and mail myself what I want but that seems too time consuming.

On the F2P front..I would hope to see some of the older players who left due to cost issues try to return if just to team with some of those they left on Champion..Undead Cyborg are your ears burning?

Supergroup Transfers (Including bases)
This is something we anticipated and are actively working on, but it likely won’t be ready for City of Heroes Freedom’s launch. We are committing to bringing you this service in the future and it won’t be just to the VIP server, it will be between any server. It will likely require the Supergroup’s Super Leader to actually execute the transfer.

Wow. The reactions in this thread are interesting ,to say the least.

I see a few people who don't want to play with freepers.
I see many more waiting to see what will happen.
I see some who will stay on champion no matter what.
I see some excited to see old friends coming back to the game. (Me included.)

How many of you look at this as a way to teach new players about what makes Champion great?

There will be many new players who have never experienced fly, never ninja-kicked a bad guy through a wall, never met their double in a mission and gone 'OMG... wait, his costume is better than mine.' and I'll have the chance to show them all of this.

What I'm saying it: We have choices, but one choice that hasn't been considered much is that of HELPING the new players become good players.

Just my two cents.

My Champion alts are staying here, the exception being PvP alts which will go to whichever server the new league is on.

Some friends and I will be doing a lampoon Elitist SG of the Elite on ViP, as will hundreds more no doubt. Monocle and top hat required!

Given that most new people will have the same restrictions as trial accounts, and we rarely hear out of trial accounts, I don't foresee many people being helped by us. That's why the concern about the freeps is a little odd to me.

You said it all Ash. Point being that they might be so wowed by our community that they'd eventually buy into it instead of playing for free. We'd help add more awesome to Champ.

As a virtual noob here (just starting my 4th month) I'm a little hesitant to voice an opinion, but I'm going to anyway

The only thing that worries me is that an influx of new people may cause more lag. That is my only concern.

I've read some of the other concerns, but I have to say, I am not concerned. Will we get some idiots? sure we will...we already have some. But over all, I am hoping that those new people will see the same thing I saw when I first started....a lot of people that are more than willing to lend a helping hand.

I am not sure a lot of you Vets are aware of the impact you have on newbies. When I came in, I figured I would just play alone...I had no desire to "make friends" or be on teams...

But You vets changed my mind by helping out...by offering advice...and a hand in friendship. Several of you are on my Global Friends list (I'm Nebularian in the game, btw)

A lot of us newbies end up acting like you...offering help and advice to those that are even newer and, if we can't help, guiding them to one of you!

I don't see that changing anytime in the future.

Will the inclusion of free players change things? maybe a bit......But I believe it is you vets who will continue to set the tone for the Server.

Now, imagine this mutiplied by (x) thousand. That will be the best part of the Free To Play system.

Indeed, and glad it's been fun and inclusive for you. It has really always been that way on Champion as far as helping out the newer players. It comes down to are you willing to help yourself or want everything done for you basically. The old adage, give a man a fish and he'll be fed for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll be fed for a lifetime.
