  1. Well this really sucks. My subscription ran out while I was away...came back and find...this. the least they could do is just let those of NOW premium players play as VIP till the end.

    @Nebularian

    Q on Virtue?

The Devs have put an acknowledgement that they are aware of the down servers and are working on them....nothing said about the issues with the servers that are not "reported" down".
  3. Coming in on this real late LOL. While it looks like I won't be able to change the screen (would love to know how but I can live with out it ) I would really love to see most of the pics used in these as part of my Wallpaper collection....really fantastic work!
  4. Saw it at Baen's books and downloaded it to my kindle.....now I have a conflict....do I play...or read? LOL

Hah....from what I have seen....those in the two servers I frequent (Champion and Virtue) seem to "suggest" that undesirable individuals move to Freedom where they might fit in better. several times I have seen people pop up and start advertising farms for pay....only to be told in by multitudes of people to "go back to Freedom". (for which I am thankful LOL)

I've played on Freedom.....I don't now. I don't like the constant ads for farms, the people are not as friendly (down right mercenary would be more like it), Crude and rude is more the norm there, apparently.

I have tried Exalted.....not impressed. My home is Champion...and I go to Virtue now simply for RP.

I think the point is that it is not supposed to be a "debate" or general chat channel.

I think the very name of the channel the HELP channel should make it clear that it is for people to get help. It isn't called the help and general chat or debate channel. there are other channels for that.

Again, I don't think it was a good idea to restrict the F2P from all but the Help channel. But since that is the way it is, it should be expected that the f2p will use that channel for more than help. (again, the VIP should know better and not make a bad situation worse).

I will check it from time to time because I do like to use the help channel to help people or get help...but so long as it is being used as a general chat, then I will pretty much ignore it.

    Missuse of /hc ?

I Have turned help off on my toons in the three servers I frequent (Virtue, Champion, and Exalted) because it has become a general chat channel, a lft channel, etc. everything but a help channel.

The problem is that there is so much going on, messages for actually help are scrolled out of sight rather quickly and so could be missed......NPC msgs and mish related msgs are missed because they are scrolled out of site....etc.

The veteran players should know better but what choice do the f2p have?

This is one point I think the DEVS dropped the ball on. F2P people should not be restricted from tell or broadcast. Restricting them from these does nothing to entice them to become VIP. in fact, I could see it having the opposite effect.

  9. Some of that I have tried, but only recently the others I will try.

One thing I have noticed is that I have had to "turn off" the help in the main tab. Thanks to the fact that F2P, and the addition of those that can't send tells, it has turned into a general chat channel as well,

LOL Broadcast lft, mostly. Or Global friends...and most request that don't involve AE

I know there are several channels...But which one? Quite frankly, I had removed most of the channels from my chat area (constant unrelated chatter kept getting in the way of game content LOL - one of the reasons I usually end up turning off the Help Channel....constant unrelated chatter)...until I recently learned out to add a new window and undock it from the main chat area so it wouldn't block my view.

But I have come to realize that Champion is the place I go when I want to solo....because the chances of teaming are not that great.

But the opening of Exalted DID convince me to try out a couple of other servers. Freedom and Virtue, to be exact. It did not take me long to decide Freedom is not the place for me.....

So now, when I really want to team, I go to Virtue. When teaming is not an issue, then you bet I am on Champion

One thing I hope with this new F2P is that Champion will attract more people....thus raising the opportunity for teaming
  12. LOL I got on to Exalted and instantly missed my SG on Champion...so I thought I would recreate it. Now, me, being a virtual newbie, Had no clue what all goes into making an SG. I quickly discovered that I have neither the time nor desire to work on building one. Now I just want to delete it and join another...but that will have to wait until I decide whether or not I will be playing on Exalted. MY short time there sorta soured me because there were just too many people. Like I stated in another post...Atlas 9? Really? LOL
  13. Going to join in on this.

From what I have read, I may be the old fart here 51 in Oct.

Worked in the IT field until my position was out sourced, have been unemployed since then and seriously considering moving to the country and staying that way New Rules say we are not supposed to talk about religion, so I hope this next part doesn't break that rule, but I am also the High-Priest of a small Wiccan group.

Came to COH originally to do research and get some ideas for a fan-fiction page I write for. Unfortunately, I got addicted and do more playing than writing . I don't know if the new forum rules prohibit me for saying to much, so I will just say that a person can simply Google my full name (Dylan Clearbrook), that will eventually lead you to the fan-fiction page I write for and probably the stories I posted on fan-fiction.net years ago LOL.

    Dylan
  14. Well, I tried out Exalted when the Head Start started...and got my first experience of what a server with a heavy load is like. Atlas 9...Really?

Since then, I have done something I haven't done since I started playing COH (all of 5 months LOL) and was to try out a couple of other servers...namely Freedom and Virtue.

I have to say, after being in Champion for so long....Freedom came as quite a shock. Yeah, teaming was easier there....but the people...and the constant advertisements for Farms for pay......ugh.

Virtue is an okay server.....and have just about come to the conclusion that it is there I will go for teaming (leaving my Champion toons where they are for soloing). I'll reconsider Exalted when I see what it looks like after COH has been F2P for a bit.

Right now, I am thinking that sending a tell to some one to ask about teaming is going to get irritating when I start getting a lot of notices that the person can't send tells. That might finally persuade me to move to a server where I know people will be able to send tells
  15. Okay, having read most of the posts in this thread, I have to shake my head. Most is two different extremes.

Yes, the downtime is annoying. No one denies that. Yes, downtime is to be expected, again a given.

The EU people DO have a point about the times maint. is done (frankly, if have seen absolutely nothing (from the play pov) that shows that the merger has had a positive impact on either NA or EU players....in fact, the EU players seem to have gotten the short end of the stick)

But all this bitchin and moaning about the down time, demanding free time, etc etc. is nonsense.

Yes, I DO believe the DEVS should do SOMETHING to reward the VIP players for their patience (a smart person ALWAYS tries to maintain his/her customers good will). I think a a couple of people have probably suggested something that would work. An extra months worth of PP for every current VIP? Not just a random few here and there (everyone has suffered from the tremendous amount of down time, not just a few.)

But other than that, or some other minor equivalent, griping and demanding what amounts to a refund is down right silly.

And chiding those that are upset about the down time is just as silly. The DEVS are NOT doing us favors. They are providing a service WE pay for, so as paying customers, we DO have a right to gripe about the quality (or lack thereof, depending on your POV) of service we receive for our money. How MUCH that service costs is immaterial. (especially in today's economy when just about every penny has suddenly become important).

I guess what i am getting at is that we should let the DEVS do their jobs, but the DEVS should recognize and...reward VIP players for their patience in some small way (again, all VIP Players, not just a random few).

Down times are unpleasant, but both sides could work to make them a little bit less so.

    Just my two cents.
  16. I can get into Beta Server 01 now....but not the VIP server. Keeps saying that I am not allowed. I figured that was because that Server was invitation only or something like that.
  17. same problem here...was on yesterday after copying a couple of toons..now...locked out. no public access.
  18. As a virtual noob here (just starting my 4th month) I'm a little hesitant to voice an opinion, but I'm going to anyway

The only thing that worries me is that an influx of new people may cause more lag. That is my only concern.

I've read some of the other concerns, but I have to say, I am not concerned. Will we get some idiots? sure we will...we already have some. But over all, I am hoping that those new people will see the same thing I saw when I first started....a lot of people that are more than willing to lend a helping hand.

I am not sure a lot of you Vets are aware of the impact you have on newbies. When I came in, I figured I would just play alone...I had no desire to "make friends" or be on teams...

But You vets changed my mind by helping out...by offering advice...and a hand in friendship. Several of you are on my Global Friends list (I'm Nebularian in the game, btw)

A lot of us newbies end up acting like you...offering help and advice to those that are even newer and, if we can't help, guiding them to one of you!

I don't see that changing anytime in the future.

Will the inclusion of free players change things? maybe a bit......But I believe it is you vets who will continue to set the tone for the Server.
  19. My first was a Blaster named Pagan Blast. At the time, I really didn't have a clue what I was doing, how no notion of how to mix and match power sets, etc.

By the time I DID have a clue, I had screwed Pagan Blast up beyond repair.....(at that time I had no clue what a respec was LOL). SO I deleted him and created another Blaster named Nebularian (who is just about to hit lvl 36 )

I have tried tankers, and I brought a mastermind over from Praetoria, (I even tried a brute in COV but I really can't get into the villain thing) but when I tried Scrappers....I fell in love LOL.

At this point in time, I have 1 Blaster (Nebularian), and 3 scrappers (Blue Arc, Claw Violet, and Cosmicana) and I still have that COV Brute (shoknclaw).

(I still keep trying to develope a Tanker...which I always name Lar Gand....but I just can't get into it.)

    Dylan (@Nebularian)
  20. Good to see you're still around. Haven't had the pleasure of teaming with you yet, but I am sure the opportunity will arise

    Dylan
  21. Being a virtual newbie, I was completely unaware when I signed on with a new toon....I stepped out of city hall.....and ran back.... I got my highest lvl toon and charged out to fight....and die...again and again .

Even though lag was horrendous, I have to say I really had fun.

    Dylan (aka Nebularian)
  22. Welcome from another Newbie!

Note, you will find that the people in Champion are, for the most part, a great bunch of people!

I personally didn't pipe up here in the community until after I had played around in the game for a while.

I started out with the free trial and, to be honest, if I had stayed in Praetoria, I probably would not have stayed beyond that. You've got your first character created, so now go create a Hero and jump on into Atlas! That is where you will see a LOT of other people. Once I got there...I was hooked LOL.

Again...welcome to the game..I hope you enjoy it as much as I am LOL.

You can find me as @Nebularian and I am usually running my Blaster (Nebularian) or Scrapper (Blue Arc).

Well, I am trying a scrapper now...and I have to say, I am liking it. It seemed the higher level I got as a Blaster, the more running away and sniping from long distance I had to do.
  24. Thanks for the warm welcome

A couple of people have commented on the Mon-El Avatar.....i've used that one ever since a friend and I started up the Continuum Worlds. (A comic fan-fiction site) LOL if you go out and google my name, you'll find me

I couldn't bear the thought of joining a comic based game without bringing it along.

As I stated...I am REAL new to the game, so some of the terms you all are using don't mean much now (I WILL Learn......I had to go out and find out what some one meant when they told me I had a "cool toon" LOL)

I have tried playing a scrapper and a tanker....the less said about those attempts...the better. (now if I can just stop trying to play my blaster like a tanker LOL)

anyway...thanks all. oh...and my global handle is @Nebularian

    Dylan
  25. First off, I should say that I was one of those that was totally against paying monthly fees to play a game. When COH first came out...I wanted to play...but refused to pay the monthly fee.

Well, a two weeks ago, I decided to give the 7-day trail a go...and have been hooked ever since. I bought the game LOL.

It seems I am partial to blasters. I ran one called Pagan Blast while I learned about the game and now run Nebularian.

I've checked out a couple of other servers...but Champion was the first one I tried and it seems the one I like most. I'm glad to be here!. (I may even start writing stories about it on my fan-fiction web site LOL).
