This week, we are going to be talking about our wishlists for City of Heroes! What new features do we want, or what do we think should be changed?

And as always, we are looking for your input! If you could change one thing about CoX, what would it be?

It can be anything, from costumes to story arcs, powersets to lore. Just keep it constructive

The ability to invite your own alts to a supergroup. I must have more than a dozen I haven't gotten around to getting invited to my one person SGs because I hate asking people to help.

The ability to customize the look of pool and Epic powers.

.... Argh, can't limit to one thing...

I'd like to have much more detailed faces. When I see screenshots of our characters in MMO web sites, they look dated.

Asymmetrical costumes.

The ability to have a third color for some costume items like pinstripe glow lines.

Fingers with a bit of air between them, so they don't look like mittens.

To not be pushed by citizens.

The ability to form a voicechat room on the fly that connects you to teammates or a league, and have the UI show some visual indicator next to a teammate name when they speak so you can quickly tell if that's the tank saying to get ready to attack, vs. the impatient blaster standing at the back. For people without mics, they'd automatically just go into listen-only mode so they could hear their teammates, and they'd be given a teammate volume control if they'd prefer to play entirely voice-free.

To have a real "roll eyes" smiley in the forums. Who in blazes rolls their eyes by looking DOWN?!

I'd like to have world persistence on a per-player basis. If a contact dies, they aren't visible for that player any more. If a building is destroyed by fire in a mission, that player sees the rubble.

I'd like a new mechanic added so that a type of NPC could trigger chain aggro. When his spawn is aggro'd, he runs for help (and he can open doors). If he makes it to another spawn, he aggros them onto the players. This would be a special type of NPC that wouldn't show up all the time but you'd have to watch for him, like players do for our beloved Malta Sappers.

I'd like Lore pets not to be ghosts, or memories, or astral projections or whatever stupid thing they are now, and I'd like the option to choose a weaker pet on a much shorter timer so they could be perma or near perma. As a squishy it's a pain to bring out your Lore pet, die 30 seconds later, and not be able to resummon for 15 minutes.

I'd like all PvP zones become cross-server. This same tech would be used for Incarnate Trials, so that the team-up teleporter could pull participants from multiple servers.

I'd like more prestige costumes and auras that you have to earn. I know many players get hugely bent out of shape on this because they want to be able to pick a particular look from level 1, but I love stuff like the Nictus sword and Rularuu shield. Stuff that looks badass and says "Yeah, I worked hard to get this." Needless to say I like the concept of Incarnate-only armor/auras.

Disclaimer: this is just a pure wishlist with no regard to how hard things are to implement. It's just stuff I'd like to see in the game. So please don't bother explaining how hard/impractical some of these items would be.

I would add a temporary power that allows me to run around the city painting fake mustaches on other player's characters.

Make more money so they can hire more people to add more Stuff.... and even give a couple of raises to people.

A complete overhaul of the costume creator. Place a wrists option, reorganize the catagories and options, eliminate the mitten hands, add fingers, tweak the old costumes and patterns.

Stories and Lore. Most of it. Namely, making sure it's consistent across the board, removing old content (moving to Ouro) when appropriate, giving VEATs actual, worth-the-time-to-run story arcs, setting up contacts in empty zones to explore the zone's backstory/activities, updating graphics and models to support the evolving storylines...

I can't do just one. I will do three instead... sorry.

1. Power Pool and Epic pool customization.

2. Reorganizing the costume creator - the menus are a freaking MESS. Just some freaking housekeeping.

3. Change the way respecs are done (like leveling - power, slot, power, slot) and make it so the game remembers what my bars looked like, instead of filling them with every temp power I've ever earned and making me fix it all every time.

It'd be NICE if they'd stop restricting us from mixing certain costume pieces and give the big bulky coats to women too, but I'll stick with those three.

Fix the targeting so that when I target a guy in the next group and when I hit tab it doesn't shoot clear across the map to an NPC I can't even see yet.

One thing that this game is acclaimed for is character customization. I would like to see an update for the new chest emblem/supergroup emblem interface that allows us to use 2 or 3 different symbols from the current library, and scale them, rotate them, combine them into a more unique symbol that could be placed on your chest, back, cape, belt, arms, etc. Give us the option of adding depth to symbols also. There are some costumes that would look much better with emblems that have dimension. just take our current symbols and make them thicker, and give the second color option more or less depth than the first color option. Maybe even a beveled edge around the outside. For symbols that have gradients, make the depth slope. Giving depth to 2D images is simple enough for an amatuer like me to be able to do in 3D Studio Max. I am sure the development team could easily whip them up. As for the interface that combines and edits symbols, this is more complex but results in a much greater customization option.

This should be the default tab key behavior, imo.

This is also related to the item at the top of my "ain't gonna happen" wishlist: replace tab/click targeting with a reticule and a more FPS/TPS style of targeting in general. Not necessarily full-on bullet path physics (probably not technologically do-able, even in a highly instanced game, without massive latency issues), but a hybrid (like in a certain post-apocalypse game) would be wonderful. Even an option like can be configured in That Other Spandex Game(tm), in which any attackable object at the center of your screen is targeted, would be okay.

That said, I'm not expecting a huge basic engine rewrite at this stage of the game's life.

So my "actually might happen" choice? Get rid of rooting. No single change could add more to the dynamic flow and feel of combat for me.

I'd like to see sg bases made more relevant by adding a market interface, icon contact

and have your sg portal work like the train system to tp you to any other zone with a

Higher contrast and larger cursor option in Options. Or scale it to screen size. At 1024x768, the current size is ok, but at 1600x900 and up? I can't find the bloody thing to click a spot on the floor, especially if there's a burn patch, freezing rain, and static field all going on at the same time.

The Blueside writing is terrible. Utterly, utterly terrible. It NEEDS to be replaced with something four times as good, because it's only just scraping quarter decent atm, and thats being generous.

Revamp the older content. Make mission threads based on a motivation you pick early on, and can change at certan points as you progress.

I'd add a jack of all trades AT that could select powers from all the available sets based on a skill point model. I'd limit the selection for pools to two or three picks from each AT's available sets to keep the AT as a little bit of everything but not the best at one particular thing.
I'd also like shape shifting and power cloning abilities either as a unique AT or a selection for the various current AT's.
More hairstyles for men and women.
I'd like the sprites from the origin pack used as alternate animations for powers.
I would get rid of most of the FX for things like hasten, will power, regen, inspiration use, and really any powers that are happening internally to the character. It's never made sense to me that concentration and the like make the characters blow up or glow etc..
more auras with the ability to pair activation with specific power use as another element of customization.
Small scale surgical strike incarnate missions. Assassinations or sabotage missions would be great for villains and rescues or assisting resistance forces works well for heroes. This would be a nice way to move the story forward while appealing to a large variety of play styles.

I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx. My entire room absorbed every echo. The music was . . . thud like. The music was . . . thud like. I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug. Opaque melodies that would bug most people. Music from the other side of the fence.
