Veteran Detection

I would like to have the system automatically check the player's most recent Veteran badge in certain situations.

Specifically, I want it to check Vet status of the player whenever those lovely PvP zone, University Dean, MA Manager and so on talks pop up.

I want the system to look at our badges and say "oh my... this person has the 36 month badge... perhaps they're ALREADY aware that they can go to Bloody Bay at their current level range..."

Please... for the love of sanity... please...

My mind wanders so often you've probably seen its picture on milk cartons. - Me... the first person version of the third person Steelclaw

I'd prefer those missions just award an account-wide badge upon completion and check to see if you have that badge before bugging you. Your way's still a step up from the status quo though so I'd be happy with it.

One minor problem. Some accounts have more than one player using it. Therefore, people that have just started using their friend's account would miss out on it. Also, there are people that have mostly played hero side and decided to join the dark side. There are a vet, but have missed out on that content.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

<bleep>'em. Letting someone else use your account can get your account banned. Read the EULA. It's under Member Conduct, item x. If they aren't paying for their own account they have no rights. The only time this is overlooked is when it's a parent paying for a childs account.

WRONG. Everyone that plays the game regardless of faction gets sent to the PvP contacts, on a University/CDEC story-arc, to the MA Manager. No one ever misses out because they are on the wrong faction.

I'd say there's no point. I've seen people with several year's worth of badges being as clueless about the game as the newbie in the Help channel asking where the Hollows is. How can this be? They've been away from the game for months or years and forgotten most of it.

"Introduction" missions that need to die in a fire, or let me skip them:

University introduction
Difficulty contact introduction
PvP introductions
Security Chiefs
Wincott/Temblor/Peebles/Bower introduction
Architect introduction

If I have done these once, then I know what I'm doing. DO NOT make me do them again and again and again.

Hang on. This is an actual, proper, sensible suggestion? Posted by Steelclaw? With no funny?

Agreed. I already know about Inventions, thanks. (In fact, I was playing for a couple of years before they even came along.) If I want the badge, I'll run the tutorial on my own; otherwise, don't bother me.

Well, what about the parent that plays the child's account to learn a bit about the game they allow them to play?

And the contacts aren't the same across factions (speaking of the PvP contacts). As for Universities, I'm curious if, on villain side, there is information telling redside players that they can also craft in abandoned labs. I'm a mostly redside player so don't even know if there are equivalent abandonded labs (or whatever they're called) on blue side. And I'm a vet.

Meh, I can take or leave the OP's suggestion. Improvements can help most certainly, but as a vet, I've also learned to simply ignore this stuff.

I clicked on a Steelclaw thread looking for funny. Where is my funny?

This reminds me of something I have a pet peeve about. Vanguard's "Clearance checker" outside the Vanguard building (that transports you to RWZ). "Hey, $target, come over here so I can check your clearance."

Um, level 1's can enter RWZ now. So, Mr. "Clearance Checker," you can take a hike.

If the NPC's purpose is no longer valid in any way, it really shouldn't be there.

Indeed. First time around I fully expected what they said to change based on my actions within the group.

I figured since I was an unknown within Vanguard, it'd be natural to have to be 'cleared' but after saving Lady Gray and everything, I figured the text would change to say "Welcome back $player"

It's a bit annoying to not be recognized after the 80th time walking up to the door...

Wish it had a way to check badge status so it could tell if your a member or not.

They shouldn't.

This about sums it up for me, but not for the same reason as above. I actually at least attempt to run every contact up to a full contact bar, and these missions help with the 10-14 and 15-19 hero side ones that don't have a story arc, and thus never get filled by their own missions.

An aside:

I don't believe that I've been sent to the MA or Invention tutorial by another contact ever. MA Tutorial guy just shows up in the contact list when you train to level 5, and University guy pops into your contact list either when you first enter Steel Canyon or Cap au Diable, or when you go there after training level 10. Those aren't like the PvP zone reps, difficulty adjusters, or the side story zone first contacts, where it blocks off any further missions from a regular old contact.

I like this idea. Surely to goodness the tech is in place these days to make this possible?

For some reason the Security Chiefs bother me the most; maybe they're just the easiest to remember. If they can't make them remember us, can they at least make them targetable?

The parental/guardian situation has always been overlooked and allowed.

Right. Now turn that accusation of not reading around and look back at the suggestion of turning off those informative contact aids based on vet rewards and leaving half of the parental/guardian situation in the dark.

See?

No. A parent or guardian can who is letting a child use their account can show some responsibilty and answer their kids questions regarding the game. That's part of parenting.

Or we can do the best of both worlds, and set some kind of on/off switch in the options menu, so that the people that don't want it can disable it, and those with kids can leave it there.
