So what's your heroic MM's story?
My heroic MM is named Devil's Due. (Demons/Thermal)
His bio in a nutshell: He was a sorcerer working for the Midnight Squad. Some time back, a powerful demonic entity was let loose on Paragon and was causing all kinds of havoc. The demon was so powerful he couldn't simply be banished. My character used a ritual to bind the demon inside himself, turning his own body into its prison. He has found that if he lets a little of the Demon's infernal power out from time to time it makes it easier to keep him under control. He also gets great amusement out of using that power to do good.
I have two heroic MMs (well ok, one's currently a villain because I started him this evening and I haven't gotten him high enough to switch sides yet but he's a hero at heart).
Adeon Hawkwood MK3 (Bots/Traps)
Adeon Hawkwood is an established Hero in Paragon City. As his abilities are based on his power armor rather than inherent to him he has the advantage of being able to switch suits of armor to meet different situations and has built the Mark 3 specifically to counter the threat represented by Emperor Cole's War Works. While the War Works robots are individually inferior to most of Paragon's heroes Cole can churn them out in large enough quantities to potentially overwhelm any hero. Consequently the Mark 3 armor is a prototype for a control system to allow Paragon's heroes to control their own robot army at need.
Lord Harrandeous (Demon/Thermal)
Lord Harrandeous hails from a dimension very different from Primal Earth. Life took a very different evolutionary path resulting in a species with very strong natural magical abilities and an appearance that would be considered demonic to a normal human. Importantly the strength of their abilities varies with age, they start off weak, grow stronger as they get older and eventually weaken again. This has influenced their culture around the idea that the strong should seize control in order to protect the weak so that in time the weak will become strong and in their turn protect the old rulers as they weaken. This produces an attitude that combines what is essentially Social Darwinism and a very strong tradition of Noblesse Oblige.
Like Primal Earth they eventually developed inter-dimensional travel but instead of being based on portals they utilize special vessels to transverse the probability currents between dimensions. On one fateful day Lord Harrandeous set off in the good ship Corradiac on a voyage of exploration. After making a stop over at dimension K3F7 to re-provision the dimensional currents took a turn for the worse and a major probability storm blew up. The storm lasted for 11 days during which five men went overboard and the probability sail was damaged beyond their ability to repair it. With no way to get the ship to port he gave the order to abandon ship. The majority of the crew loaded into the ship's longboat and under the command of the executive officer set out to return to K3F7 where they would hopefully be able to await a rescue ship. However the dimensional locator beacons of the five missing crew members were showing them to be in a nearby dimension so Lord Harrandeous took the gig and set off to attempt a rescue mission accompanied only by Ensign Farrick. Unfortunately the dimensional turbulence around Primal Earth was almost to much for them and they barely made it through with the gig being destroyed in the process. Now stuck on Primal Earth he is attempting to locate his lost crew members and find a way home.
I have a DS/Dark as a Hero
I never wrote her bio, but it was gonna involve early abandonment by a villainous magic using father, his eventual capture and locking up in a maximum security section of the zig. An educational fieldtrip gone bad where she is closer enough to her father for the demon possessing him to jump to her (the blood relation thing making it easier to transfer)
I once had a Thugs/something MM that was suposed to be an undercover longbow agent, that had I kept I would have brought hero side had I known that was gonna happen.
Bloodletter, Thugs/Pain Vigilante: A former Destroyer whose use of Fixadine awoke her own latent powers. She found that she could produce much the same effect as Fixadine without the drug, and gathered together her own pack of Destroyers who soon found that they no longer needed the drug, but in turn were now dependent on her power instead. Unlike Fixadine however her power doesn't drive her or her followers to outright irrational rage; they can still think and control themselves. Eventually, she and her followers drifted away from the original Destroyer goal of vengeance upon Praetor White and the Empire, and more towards a general crusade against all those who exploited the "common people" that they saw themselves as.
Street-Justice, Thugs/Traps; a scavenger of abandoned technology and people, he gathers them together and uses them in his quest to make the world a better place.
Henrietta Hellfire, Thugs/Thermal; presently a villain, heading towards hero: A Hellion Girlfriend who snuck into a shipment of artifacts and found one with genuine power, enough to summon a demon and bargain with it. She was delighted with the Hellborn powers she gained and gathered together her own gang; delighted, until she discovered exactly how bad a bargain she has made. She turns to heroism out of a desperate desire to earn herself an escape from the fiery afterlife she sold herself to.
Winds of War Mercs/Storm: A mutant mercenary, he simply looked over the information on Paragon and the Rogue Isles and decided that Paragon sounded like a much better place to work. Good pay, less backstabbing.
Hellbubbles, Demons/Force Field, her bio:
Formerly just known as Sarah 'Bubbles' Martin, Sarah's life was changed forever when she happened upon an old book on demon summoning. Fortunately, one using short, simple words and lots of illustrations. Drafted into Powers Division, she joined the Resistance because 'That glowy armor is just so cool!' Her magical talent as strong as her intellect isn't, she summons mighty demons - then gives them names like Fluffy. She feeds them candy. She teaches them tricks. She even tried getting them to wear cute little hats, but gave up when the hats kept catching on fire. It is presently believed that service to her is being used as a punishment by the powers of the Netherworld. |
Professor Perdition; Demons/Traps. His bio:
Scientist, rationalist, demon summoner. By studying obscure aspects of transuniversal field theory, the Professor has discovered that by certain vocal and somatic manipulations he can open gateways to another inhabited dimension, containing useful if dangerous entities that the unscientific might term 'demons'. After early experiments cost him his right arm, he had a cybernetic replacement installed capable of projecting a plasma whip useful for keeping these unruly creatures under control. He intended to use these beasts to keep Praetoria the orderly utopia Emperor Cole meant it to be. But after he joined Powers Division, he discovered more and more uncomfortable facts that his cloistered intellectual life had shielded him from. More injustices, more acts of oppression, more outright evil than he had believed existed in Cole's 'Utopia'. In the end he could take no more, and turned against the very Empire he set out to support... |
Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
My Bots/FF hero Inorganic is just that, an artificial life form created to house a powerful force field generator that no organic life form could safely wield.
He was imprinted with the personality and thought patterns of his creator, whom he was tricked into killing during his short time as a villain. Filled with regret, he switched sides and is now a one-man super team, fighting for good and making amends.
His bots' AI are facets of his own personality that are running inside his artificial cortex and broadcast remotely to control the bots' bodies. When the bots are defeated, they are just a shell being destroyed, and are re-created with control being established from him as the source.
Well, Commissar Aleksandr Menshikov has always been a hero, even though he was created before Going Rogue came out by a long time
His history is closely tied with WW2, at least.. Real Earths history of it. I haven't found too many details about Primal Earth's second world war, except something about the Storm Korps and how they were unpleasant chaps or some such.
Anyway, Menshikov's history is very much tied to the Russian view of what he would call the Great Patriotic War. His view of how things went, the west's involvement, etc, are very different than what most of his American friends would think (and actually with good reason).
Hmmm... ok, short version. He became a Commissar in 1939, when Russia was invaded in 1941 he defended Leningrad, where his family lived until the siege ended in 44. (Menshikov was never interested in politics, but was inspired to see to the moral and fighting form of those under him). Due to injuries sustained in battle, and the power of the dark magics he had used to help defend Leningrad, and eventually break the seige.. he died. But he completed a ritual to give himself unlife. Essentially he studied Necromancy as a academic hobby in his youth but hadn't thought to actually practice it until the number of fighting troops in Leningrad started to wear thin, so, he raised them as zombies.
He was awarded the Defender of Leningrad and Hero of the Soviet Union medals before his death, and after his death and continuing unlife, he silently left Russia feeling that the legend around his name was probably best left intact since few people knew of his necromanic knowledge -- and it certainly wasn't in the propaganda.
Menshikov was handsome, quick witted, very charismatic and well liked during the war, but years haven't treated him or his rotting body very well. He is somewhat gruff and course, and his patience wears when the "high ideals" of some of his Hero friends rub him the wrong way. He could be described as ruthless, but possesses a very strong moral core -- he fights to protect the innocent, but more so to punish the guilty. He can still rouse a good speech and invoke strong emotions however.
The undead who follow him are volunteers from the underworld, some share his views on justice and are eager to return fight in the living world -- even if it means doing so in a shabby zombie body. Others are seeking personal redemption for deeds done during their lives (his grave knights are former members of the Oprichniki, they didn't give him their real names, and he didn't feel the need to ask). Its OK if they get defeated because, well, they are just souls riding in borrowed bodies -- its not like they can actually die again
He had no involvement in the cold war at all, aside from stating that he felt it was a stupid waste of time since he felt neither side was insane enough to actually nuke one another. And thats the shortest version of his history that exists anywhere. I should put up a page on VirtueVerse one of these days where I can more accurately describe things
So yeah, he's a former-Soviet Commissar Necromancer, and a good guy Didn't see that one coming I bet ;D
Bots/Storm - Prototype Protector.
Prototype Protector was created by Neuron in one of his many attempts to impress Cole. Soon forgotton though, the Protector series was tossed to the Powers Division and sent on numerous menial tasks.
It was during one of these menial tasks that something unforseen happened. The prototype was assisting an elderly citizen with her groceries when a group of Destroyers started setting explosives nearby. His orders were clear. Do nothing but help the lady then return to station. His logic circuits refused to allow this though and began reprogramming his nerual network. It was at that moment he stopped being a mindless automaton and became a force for Justice.
(Storm is RP'd as Nanite clouds, which also allow him to control/ construct machines from parts lying around.)
Ninja/Thermal - Spectral Samurai.
Spectral Samurai is not a person. It is a golem of sorts. Ancient magic. I have a collection of 'Guardians' that are sort of golems created by The Well over the eons when the need would arise. Spectral was one such guardian in an ancient time. Re-absorbed by The Well once it's work was complete. The recent surge in activity with The Well allowed Spectral to roam the physical plane once more.
Maestro Mavius - Infinity
Capt. Biohazrd - PCSAR
Talsor Tech - Talsorian Guard
Keep Calm & Chive On!
Incorruptible (Merc/Pain)
A 'good' Praetorian. A special ops commander who could no longer blindly follow orders from evil men, but also couldn't join a bunch of evil, mass-murdering, psychopathic anarchists, and deserted to Primal Earth as a third option.
Warrior Widow (Nin/TA)
A bandit leader and her men thrown through time when the evil sorcerer they're battling is slain mid-spell.
Pyro-Tech Mage: Robots/Thermal
Basically a White Wolf rip off. Even named all the bots as various HIT Marks. I like keeping it old school! Haven't decided yet on the "golem construction" whether I build them and summon them through extradimensional space when I need them or if they are magically constructed from nothing, and they just "manifest" This is my bio in game:
Mundane background: PhD in mechanical engineering and a Masters in thermal engineering. Magickal spheres of influence: Golem construction and Manifestation, Thermal radiation control. I was a smart kid, which was good because I was a fat kid as well, and back in the 80's that didn't fly with the ladies. Sensitivity and humour can work now but then it was money, power, looks or all three. So I studied......ALOT. PhD at 24 and 2nd masters at 30. Then I got the job at Lambda and it was smooth money from there. Life had more for me though. At 39 I had my Awakening. Boy did my world turn upside down. All those "laws" that bound me before are gone. The math, it appears in my minds eye but I can change the formulas as if on a blackboard, and the laws of reality change with it.The highest technology to me is just pure ether to transform. Needless to say I was considered a risk and detained. That's when the resistance found me. Now my story begins.
Baron Judas Quisling Von Backstab (or just "Baron Backstab" for short) is an extremely trustworthy hero. Some people short-sightedly doubt his trustworthiness because of his unusual name, or because he's a seven foot tall hulking brute of a necromancer encased in midnight-black plate mail, who commands his undead forces while shrouded by an eternal cloak of darkness pierced only by the uncanny light of his blood-red eyes glowing behind the visor of his giant horned evil-overlord style helmet. However, his trustworthiness is conclusively proven by the fact that he has the "trustworthy" badge title. How can you argue with a badge title? In conclusion, trustworthy. I hope that's settled any confusion anyone may have on this matter.
Baron Backstab is currently training in the Rogue islands, only to get access to patron power pools I assure you, but as soon as he is finished with that unpleasant task he intends to move to Paragon city and join a heroic supergroup where he so obviously belongs, to enjoy the company of his fellow trustworthy heroes of similarly unquestionable sterling character, who he does NOT intent to villainously undermine and betray at every possible opportunity while maintaining an absurdly paper-thin pretense of goodness. Where do people come up with these hurtful and uncharitable accusations? Do I have to remind you of the badge title? TRUSTWORTHY!

Yes, I like Force Fields.
Bots/Storm: "Just because I'm a mad scientist doesn't mean I'm an evil scientist!" (The storm powers came from one of those accidents that mad scientists are prone to.)
Demme is a Thugs/Storm MM. He started out in the Rogue Islands hoping to land the weatherman job at WSPR-TV. That never happened. But while he was there he made some friends who like to chase storms and tell jokes.
His weather chaser cohorts are always at the ready anytime a storm is brewing. Demme has given up trying to be the TV weatherman and has settled into being the "Weather Man", utilizing his ability to call upon weather phenomenon to foil some evil plan. He is currently fully heroic, but it is always in his nature to go vigilante if need be to correct an unfair situation.
Demme has recently come across a time portal that allowed him to abscond some of the earliest Nemesis-created steam-powered weaponry, and a flying machine backpack, and bring them back to our timeline for use and study.

Hardcore Harvey: Thug/Traps-
Most rif-raf isn't even worth lookin at, but thugs are the worst. A little money and they'll do just about anything... I know this better than anyone.... Having a lot of people after me, my persuers always send these meaningless thugs and bodyguards after me. While they are easy to knock out and Drag out to the nearest desert, I found a better use for them. Offering to pay them with fame and riches from the spoils of my missions, they much prefered to join me then fight me... The best thing is though, if some of them get arrested, more well show up reguardless... XD
I know typos and junk but whatever.
She hasn't made the switch yet, but I've been playing her again recently and thought she might make a good heroic candidate.
Scarlet Deviant (Originally named Scarlet Sentinal until I realized I'd spelled Sentinel wrong) - She was originally a lab assistant for Dr. Aeon until a lab explosion took out her right arm and one of her eyes. She continued her robotics work and fashioned a new arm and eye for herself, as well as a few robotic minions and trick arrows. She abhors doing any violence herself (she has no direct damaging powers outside of Acid arrow, which doesn't count), and she could easily become a vigilante based on her desire to seek revenge on Dr. Aeon.
Wrathgate, Demon/Storm
Oliver O'Hare's parents were part of a magical coven in Paragon. Not necessarily heroes or villains, but a group of magically gifted who tried to use their powers to help protect eachother's lives and families in a city so rife with crime. Being unable to conceive, the two turned to their group, who put them in touch with a spirit to help them. A price was demanded, and when the two agreed without reservation, they were able to have a child. The day of the birth, the "spirit" revealed himself to be overlord of a demon horde, and told the two he would claim their son in 20 years to fuel his horde's power with the life of a magical being.
For 20 tireless years Oliver's parents taught him some magical combat, noting he had an easy grasp on using storm-based elements to fuel his spells - healing and damaging were easy as long as he focused through the weather. Throughout every night one parent also stayed awake to overlay protective wards on the child as he slept.
When the demon finally came to claim Oliver, One touched wreathed them both in hellfire and teleported them to the demons homeworld. His parents' wards obliterated the demon's body, leaving only 3 bones behind. The lingering magical essence fused itself with Oliver, and by donning the skull mask and 2 ribs of their master, the horde recognized Oliver, or Wrathgate as its new leader. The demons are unflincing in their loyalty, and seem to revel in both destroying villain groups and helping heroes and citizens alike.
By using his new powers, Wrathgate attempted to teleport himself back home, but his novice understanding of the demons' portals dropped him in Praetoria, where it seemed he was expected and known, and was drafted into the Powers Division. Under the promise of helping him back to his true home, he allied himself with the Resistance, becoming a warden of their cause. Since returning to his true home, Paragon, he has presented himself to Statesman as a new breed of hero in a world of growing conflict.
... Bam. I like to write really intensive backstories for a lot of my characters.
Delgran Consian. He's an ex-marine who decided he didn't like serving all that much. After leaving the service he decided to open up a detective agency in Independance Port. He kept in contact with his old squad though, and when a contract calls for it, he pulls them into the action. Doesn't consider himself a 'super' or 'power' at all. Just a man with a gun, an iron will to repulse pain, and an anti-grav device he flies around with for fun.
"I have something to say! It's better to burn out then to fade away!"
Captain Hawk-Eye
Mercs/Traps
His story isn't fully developed yet but he is a former CIA operative working as a security captain for hire. He has his own security division supplied by Portacio Ind. He does a lot of spy work (ala Burn Notice) and most of what he does centers around fighting Crey.
General Crazyfist is the commanding officer of the 36th Special Forces Group (36th SFG), a collection of deranged, elite soldiers often refereed to as "The Crazyfists." The 36th SFG is essentially a hit squad which relentlessly pursues and murders heroes all over the world. Loyal to almost any and all villainous causes, the General himself is a half blown-up cyborg, his death (human anyways...) is continually and unnaturally postponed through the use of cutting edge technology.
OK so he isn't a Hero, but who cares...
Katherina Nightshade (Necro/Dark)
A young necromancer from a long line of necromancers, Kath's parents and siblings were killed in a robbery when she was still a child. Left with none of her family's fortune, and only their longtime servant, Nichol (a powerful lich who owed allegiance to Kath's father), Kath had no choice but to take odd jobs around the isles, using her necromancy to help whoever she could.
She has a special affinity for lost souls, and helps them remember who, or what they are, and move on to their afterlife. A few of them have decided to stay with her, protecting her as she continues her work. Her personal style of necromancy is unique, in that she doesn't bind souls to her will, they join her by choice. Sure, the bodies are a bit crummy, but they're fully replacable.
She has recently taken up residence in Paragon City, and lives in her Supergroup base with Nichol and the rest of the souls that decided to stay with her. She's continued her work to help others as a full-blown hero now, and continues to help the dead find their way home.
Technomage Anna (Bots/Traps)
Self-proclaimed Mad Scientist and Inventor, Anna blends magic and technology in unusual ways. Her most recent project is simply called 'Project DoomBot Army.' Hero work, in her eyes, isn't just for the good of others... it's also *wonderful* for field tests!
Katherina Nightshade (Necro/Dark)

Bravo.
Ice/Ice Blaster. Dedication to concept is an ugly thing.
Claws/WP Brute. Sex without the angst.
Every CoX character lies somewhere on this spectrum.
Gauntlette; Robots/Dark/Fire T4's across the board, IO'd but no purps yet.
The Gauntlet; an armored glove created in ancient times by an oranbegan mage and later liberated by a Mu sorceror. This piece of armor granted its wearer extended life span, control over shadows, and the ability to summon and control 6 guardians as protectors. In times past statues or suits of armor were usually utilized, but modern technologies allow for much more powerful and stable alternatives.
The current wearer was actually defending her homeland of Korea when Marcus Cole first appeared on the battle field with all of his power. She battled him always indirectly and always unsuccessfully. Always she was forced to retreat and regroup, until the day Coles own country turned upon them all and rained nuclear fire from the sky. On that day she shared her enemies disgust and much like Cole she turned away from the world. She returned to civilization with the rising of the Hamidon. She fought by Coles side until the creatures defeat, but joined the Resistance soon after.
Discovering atrocity after atrocity inflicted upon the survivors of the Hamidon's madness nearly broke her spirit forever but fighting along side the Resistance she found a purpose again. Coles imperfect vision fueled by god-like powers only made the fortunes of those poor survivors worse. Then comes information that the "Emperor" is attempting to inflict his foulness upon a whole new world! A world not destroyed by misjudgements and ravaged by the Hamidon and its foul ilk. A world that she simply MUST see. A world that helped her power grow to Incarnate levels. Levels not seen on her world except in one man, Marcus Cole.
And now she is ready. Ready to return to Praetoria. Ready to topple the false kingdom created by a false king. Ready to eradicate the final vestiges of the Hamidon and its Devouring Earth. Ready to free the downtrodden and brain-washed, and help them find peace and happiness in the world left to them.
I never thought I'd see a heroic Necro/ backstory that didn't look like a cop-out.
Bravo. |

For those of you who have heroic MM's, what sort of background story or concept did you come up with? Also, I'm kind of curious about what MM pet sets people have been taking blue side.
I haven't logged on in a bit (pesky super long work schedule...grrrrr) but I last recall encountering tons of:
- BOTS
- THUGS
- MERCS
To a lesser extent I saw Heroic Demon, Ninja, and Necro's
So what type of Heoric MM do you play?
