  1. Sorry to be leaving! I've been a subscriber pretty much since the day Villains came out, and I'm going to remember City of X as my favorite MMO. Its been a great many years, I never found an MMO that I had nearly as much fun with as this time. Maybe someday we'll be in a new MMO putting the hurt on something again.

    Cheers!

    Mercs, again.

So... Why do you suppose the devs never seem to be willing to discuss Mercs?

I think we all agree that the spec oops (intentional) don't carry their weight very well because their control doesn't work. Cottage rule, whatever, giving them some tweaks or swapping some powers around couldn't possibly anger anyone.

I've always been a fan of giving them thug-style leadership myself (it makes sense anyway) and either lowering the insane recharge times on their controls significantly or just changing them to aoe damage powers would fix them nicely and make the set competitive to ds, bots and thugs.

Mercs shabby performance has been an issue for a very long time.
  3. Group teleport used carefully can add some much needed mobility to an mm, thats for sure. Especially on the trials. Actually is pretty keen if your set has an aoe stealth because its usually enough to sneak past guards in lambda. One of my mm's uses /darks aoe stealth and team teleport there and its got some heavy duty micro involved but you can zot by unnoticed at a good clip. You'll be the only mm cruising around with a whole team of guys. Also on Keyes, with mm's usually bring stuck on the first floor. My tanker-like mm just runs solo on lambda split phase and rolls around on the ground levels on Keyes.

It fits the character concept as a rapid interface stealth team in a bad *** way
  4. Check out the Mace mastery shield, its a pretty impressive def bonus. Mu mastery adds strong resists... But then I tend to play very tanky mm's.

Also the mu mastery electric fences is awesome, aoe immobilize with -kb, great for keeping them in a burn patch.

That's another bug right there. :P
incandescence. Honestly if it was a self+pets power I would take it, I'm not willing to assume that my whole league is on the same page as I am. Thats just insane if you ask me - prompting an entire league to teleport? Then add in some more mm pet bugs and it's right out!
  6. This is somewhat off topic -- but you know that part of Lambda where you split up? I really don't have too much trouble with that part as an MM because I just go petless, and I keep that in mind that I may be caught off-guard or have extremely bad luck and my pets go die at once or in rapid succession.

So.. I always build my MM's to be able to take care of themselves for a short while without the usage of their pets. It comes up. My two main toons are MMs who can actually give a pretty decent fight without their pets. My bots/traps MM can actually tank even without his pets because both his +DEF and +RES are so high. Necro/Dark can because of his excellent heal and his -ToHit and reasonable +DEF. Both have about 1000 hp, which isn't a lot of room for error but its enough to swing it if needed. That means personal attacks, btw, and taunt just isn't as effective without them.

I personally wouldn't *willingly* play a petless MM, but I like the flexibility of being able to do so, especially on a build with no focus on +recharge.

I'd think so, but the whole teleporting the entire league thing, heh! I wish that was optional somehow.

Thanks for the advice all, I'm thinking clarion for the status protection and usage on the later TF's -- which I'm actually quite fond of.

    Cheers!
  8. Hi fellas,

I've got a rather beefy Necro/Dark, perma-hasten and quite effective. The only problem is that I haven't the faintest what to put in Destiny. He's got Spiritual, Diamagnetic and Cimorians for his others, and he doesn't really have much in the way of weaknesses honestly.

Normally, I'd stuff something generically useful in place, get the 120 second recharge bit and just put it on auto and forget about it (I'm lazy and I'm not changing) but I've already got an auto with hasten...

So.. I was hoping for a occasionally useful power that I wouldn't be obliged to use all the time necessarily. Incandescence actually looks good for this, but I'm loath to play around with a league-wide teleport! I'd actually take the power in a heartbeat if it could only effect myself and my pets.

So I'm soliciting opinions from people who are in similar situations: whats worked well for you?
  9. I think a lot of the frustration on this whole issue is that the excuses don't seem particularly valid.

If its a programming issue, why can I do it in ae?

If its a pimps issue... Then that's incredibly sexist.

Honestly, its saying that women are fragile little things that need to be protected, a bizarre relic from the last few centuries. Women can join the army and go into combat, but they can't deal with a few immature kids? Do people really think like that still?

Even as a man its offensive, really, neither my mom or my sister are fragile weak creatures. They don't need anyone to protect them from obnoxious kids.

Besides, the tough but sexy lieutenant is classic.
  10. Sounds good, but I'd check to make sure that hurricane and other knock abouts actually do work on the incarnate mobs reliably - it would be a shame to level a toon up to fifty only to be disappointed.

My poor /storm toon hasn't unlocked anything yet so I can't easily jump in and test it... Also you'd really want to ask someone who is level shifted up that might be important....

I'm curious myself, so if I notice a storm toon around rwz I'll ask and post.

    Cheers!
  11. Well,

I haven't seen a lot of /storm guys in the trials, but thats where I expect problems to show up. Your debuffs will work within the usual limits, but the control - like the bad guys slipping around I'm pretty sure will not work. That part is your damage migration, unfortunately.

I have a thugs/storm at fifty, but I haven't played him much lately since I'm just not sure what to do with him during the trials.

    Cheers!
  12. Yikes.

Are you sure maybe not /dark neither of those really order a lot of mitigation and you'll need that mercs. I'd think about /thermal too. Mercs are actually pretty good, carefully pick over their details on city of data and build on their strengths.

Pains healing just won't keep up with their incoming damage... I like to hammer -tohit and -res as hard as I can with mercs, thermal offers resists which mercs have an OK amount and it has an OK heal.

    Yes.

I want my pets at least as big as the extinction war walker. And more of them!

Seriously though, if people could just customize their pets a lot of this would go away. Having them be non-blocking would help but not quite solve this...

In the 10 minutes I carried on fighting before they could be resummoned, Winter Lord's HP moved by like... barely anything, haha. Finally when I resummoned them, we knocked down Winter Lord's health down to zero.

So, what did I learn from this battle? Lore pet DPS is horrific. Also, if you don't take Cardiac (I took Agility), then your Lore pets can run out of endurance if they fight long enough.
Well, it various per Lore pet. Cims do awesome dps, look it up on the wikis or somewhere on the forum.

Robots already have one of the best defense and resistance and they are all ranged. Robots have good aoe damage too.
While I would never purpose harming my precious bots, I'd give my hat to see mercs get a decent boost - they are treated very poorly by the devs. Giving the weak spec ops a good -regen like the bots would actually help them a lot. I'd love to see this.

Not the stun! The -500% to regen! For tackling the big boys.
  17. Oh yeah, those are awesome. But not the same thing
  18. Yeah, no set bonuses help pets, because before incarnate content everyone said mm's where over powered. Now that incarnate content is out, mm's are still great but really awkward to play. I don't see them making any major changes regarding this though...

Its a bit lame though. I'd like to see at least a few select bonuses effect them.

  20. Bots are evil for their -regen, two attacks that lower regen, then add in poison trap or howling twilight and you can really lay on the lasting hurts. I don't recall off hand what giant monsters resist -regeneration at though, but you need quite a lot.

My first gm (before incarnate stuff came out) was scrap yard. Union hippy *******. Anyway. Took me two tries. After getting him all the way down, some little level twenty jerk ran by and got the last hit - I didn't get the badge. I emailed support about it because its not supposed to work like that, LOL, but they didn't read my message clearly and just blew me off.

Anyway I got him good the next day - they are easiest in a corner. Throw in Lore pets though, and its done real fast. I didn't like Lore much at first, but I love it now
  21. Good build. Really similar to mine. Great thing about having fast recharge and lots of recovery is your pets can die in waves and you don't have to care, just soul extraction and summon a few more

That'll work very well, oh yes.
  22. Res seems a good choice for late game content honestly. Its not possible to get 60 def on most builds so res works well I think. You really need to get def high as possible for it to be of any use at all in the trials... Anything less than fifty probably would be nearly worthless on pets anyway.

Regular content def is king, I'm less sure about trials really. Unless you really can get to sixty def - but again, on pets? Bots and thugs with ff or traps sure. Everyone else might be better off with a good res set. I doubt sonic is bad these days.

    So, proof?
I don't think you have a firm grasp of the concepts here. When your talking about hardware then that is a valid question. But when you are talking about software -- there really isn't any hard limits. The only limits are what your hardware and your brain can do.

They've already got plenty of similar stuff in the game so it being possible or not isn't really a question. You can do this kind of stuff in AE already. So it can be done.

The question is "is it worth NCSoft to make the effort". For free? Probably not unless the MM-class sells like hotcakes and it probably doesn't -- its the kind of class that some people really dig and others not so much. Thats why I'd say I'd be wiling to pay for it above my VIP subscription. Basically its an incredibly cool feature, but only a relative few players would use -- so they can charge whatever makes it worth their while and I'd probably pay it.

On the other hand, if its a "select your pets appearances from this list..." well, I'd still pay for it, but I'd grumble and wouldn't be willing to pay as much. It'd still be a massive improvement. But it might limit some character concepts -- like maybe I like Thugs powers and so forth, but I'd rather have a military theme.

The trick is to let NCSoft know that at least some MM players would find that acceptable -- which is why I'm posting really. We all know its a financial question (which is fine), I'm sure they'd give us everything in the universe if they could, but in the end its always about money... I want NCSoft to know that I have money for them if they have this feature for me. I like NCsoft. I have no problem giving them my entertainment dollars because its always been a good investment.

Nothing unreasonable there, its just unless they know this is a possible source of income they aren't going to do anything.
  24. Hmm. I'd love to join a group like this. I've got a few toons that would fit in nicely. Few of them are necessary pleasant folks but they can co-operate when needed. My main would be neat, SB-322, uh, he is technically insane but... Its a bit complex. You'd have to talk to him ic. @general_sionn

    Cheers!

This doesn't mean Dark Miasma is bad, it just loses some of it's AMAZEMENT. But, having an AoE Rez in MoM is beautiful.
Honestly, most sets lose a lot of their amazement on a trial. Even +DEF sets need to ramp up their def well beyond 45 to get around like they used too. Trials actually make +RES a lot better than it was in the regular content.

A well built bots/traps still wrecks everything with impunity, mind you, but it takes a bit more tweaking than it used to if it wants to enjoy its previous levels of invulnerability.

I'd say this is good advice -- Thermal was a mediocre set before trials, but its a great set nowadays.
