Sorry bout the smarty pantsedness. yer right, an option that designates Ranged/Melee for each pet is something i have suggested before. The ranged setting would cause the old pet A.I. to kick in. In the beginning all pets stayed at range and used only ranged attacks. My Thugs Bruiser would "sling rocks" all day with Rock Throw without ever running into range. Same with the rest of them. It could also remove all melee attacks said pet may posess, like Brawl for the Arsonist/Medic and various others.
Then they changed the A.I. and this run into melee thing started. So that would be the A.I. for the Melee pets. They fire their one ranged attack (usually) then charge into the fray.
This pet bug like most of the other bugs has been addressed several times but the very next patch usually rescinds any fixes for some derned reason. -
Um I dont care if my Arsonist has father abandonment issues, I just want him to stop running into melee range and hugging the creature, as he brawls them to death. The main issues to do with Pets are because im not understanding them emotionally?
0.o o.0 0.0 o.o
Really?
Wow, no im gonna go with programming issues for the win, Alex!
Of course there's always l2play issues, but the run in bug and the zoning issues (which is what we are focusing on here) are the main issues. These have been repeated alot in many threads through out the years but we are still being ignored. We understand that they are powerful and thats the main reason we catch so much flak from the community at large, and possibly why nothing has been fixed as of yet. We have suffered for being so strong for the properly alotted amount of time, and even have tolerated Buying our set back from the market now that its a VIP or Purchased set.
But enough is enough. The issues (emotional pets not withstanding) have been clearly stated and need to be fixed. -
Has anyone EVER seen a Dev reply to this question? I haven't, not saying it hasn't happened, but I haven't seen it happen yet. Do they know it's broken? Is it mentioned at comicon? I wouldnt mind hearing it being asked at interviews. I mean come on, Pet AI needs some serious work, how is this a minor concern? If tanks damage resistance or blasters damage output was malfunctioning the Devs would be all over that crap. Our set is Broken. If you have ever played a MM you know that, and if you haven't keep you flames to yourself please. But seriously this needs to be yelled out at every meet and greet. Squeaky wheel gets the grease! FIX THE PET A.I.!!!
-
It seems as though pets only move in when there is a gap in their ranged attacks. so shouldnt the easy fix be to adjust their power recharge times so that there is no gap? why is this so hard to fix? why do i never hear this mentioned at interviews with the devs?

A: it was the addition of demon summoning that broke all other mm sets. they changed the AI when demons were added.
B: Other than demons Bots are subject to the Run-In bug the least. They are also my favorite set in the game btw. -
funniest part is they already have the fix for it; the OLD pet AI. The one that would make your pets just stand back and use ranged attacks. What they need to implement now is a toggle that allows you to choose between the 2 AI's for each pet. IT could go in the right click menu with everything else about your pet.

Gauntlette; Robots/Dark/Fire T4's across the board, IO'd but no purps yet.
The Gauntlet; an armored glove created in ancient times by an oranbegan mage and later liberated by a Mu sorceror. This piece of armor granted its wearer extended life span, control over shadows, and the ability to summon and control 6 guardians as protectors. In times past statues or suits of armor were usually utilized, but modern technologies allow for much more powerful and stable alternatives.
The current wearer was actually defending her homeland of Korea when Marcus Cole first appeared on the battle field with all of his power. She battled him always indirectly and always unsuccessfully. Always she was forced to retreat and regroup, until the day Coles own country turned upon them all and rained nuclear fire from the sky. On that day she shared her enemies disgust and much like Cole she turned away from the world. She returned to civilization with the rising of the Hamidon. She fought by Coles side until the creatures defeat, but joined the Resistance soon after.
Discovering atrocity after atrocity inflicted upon the survivors of the Hamidon's madness nearly broke her spirit forever but fighting along side the Resistance she found a purpose again. Coles imperfect vision fueled by god-like powers only made the fortunes of those poor survivors worse. Then comes information that the "Emperor" is attempting to inflict his foulness upon a whole new world! A world not destroyed by misjudgements and ravaged by the Hamidon and its foul ilk. A world that she simply MUST see. A world that helped her power grow to Incarnate levels. Levels not seen on her world except in one man, Marcus Cole.
And now she is ready. Ready to return to Praetoria. Ready to topple the false kingdom created by a false king. Ready to eradicate the final vestiges of the Hamidon and its Devouring Earth. Ready to free the downtrodden and brain-washed, and help them find peace and happiness in the world left to them. -
Obviously it IS that easy, as made obvious by all the new Lore pets and thugs mm skin randomiser. AND just because it seems easy doesn't mean the Devs have thought of it yet. Have you ever suggested it before? Have you started a thread about it yet? No? Thought not. Fix that big head of yours, Oh Forum King.

I say this problem can be solved by using Skins and Colors. Skins would be overlays of your pets as ones already in the game. Such as family for mercs. Colors would be like demons; primary color affects pets base color, secondary affects pet trim color, all costume pieces at once if it makes it easier. These simple additions to systems already in the game could revitalize MMs. Also adding ranged/melee toggles for ai control could fix the run-in bug.
k,
bye. -
Quote:This could be done a different way. Instead of completely new powersets, we could just add skins. Different npc skins selectable at the power modifying screen of your costume. No changes in powers, just npc looks. Depending on which primary you pick is what options you get offered, i.e. Mercenaries = Family, Council, 5th column. Robots = Clockwork (Primal or Praetorian), Rikti (lazer guns), Steampunk bots. And so on. All puchaseable, maybe, by the new points system.
Space Aliens: (Mastermind)
You know those aliens we all envision like from the 1950's sci fi? I would love to see them, with their ray gun and little green men look. It would be fantastic. Alternately, we could just go with Rikti. Throw in a couple bots, some basic alien shock troops, and one big bad alien in either some nasty armor or perhaps simply biologically modified or bulked out. This would be fantastic. Who doesn't like a good alien invasion?
Puppets: (Mastermind)
A somewhat Psionic styled set. I suggested this one a long time ago and I recall people really took to the idea. The essential idea is that you control deadly puppets, with or without strings raising to a controller or not. I could see some really creepy and cool concepts out of this one. -
I have a thread on here requesting a Ranged/All/Melee toggle per pet. This would remove certain powers from the pets attack chain. I have seen it suggested that the Devs want us this way, and I have to disagree. This is like having every 4th attack from a tank disperse your mob. Thats how much of a problem it causes. I also noticed that NONE of the Devs have MM characters. Maybe if one of them did, it might enlighten them.
-
One MAJOR thing you should keep in mind is a terrible problem that has been purposefully overlooked known as the Runi-In Bug. Which ever set you choose, you will find your pets LOVE to hug your enemies as they kill them. This even applies for pets without melee attacks. I'm not trying to discourage you, just warn you. So when it looks like you can't control them at all, remember it's not your fault. The Devs are just ignoring us right now.
-
yup yup i see it in MY list but not my pets. wierd.
-
Do any of the Alpha Slot powers work on your pets? I took Musculature for some additional damage on my Bots but i never see the lil red icon beside them in there buff/debuffs lists.
-
If not Go To then Stay. Stay should make your pets stand in one spot. If something comes within range then they can attack, but not move. Stay should work like a rooting effect. Instead of letting them run up to it. I honestly think thats the "run-in" code conflicting with the stay command. It's that specific code that should be removed and the control additions i suggested in my OP should be added.
-
well, so long as the pets are near their MM they get a bonus too. I thinki its like a +Dam, +Res, +Acc. but only as long as the pets are nearby. This is another symptom of the run-in bug, because they immediately leave that range when they run in, reducing their survivability also. I know we are low on the list to be fixed, but this problem affects EVERY primary in our class. They brought back Fire Aura, and someone said yesterday Energy Melee is being fixed to return to PVP. So maybe the bottom of the list is getting looked at soon.
-
Ahhh hope! So its something they know about AND are planning on fixing. Maybe they will look at my suggestion as an easy out then. maybe they can put the old stay-at-range a.i. back in for the ranged option. there are lots of options, both easy and hard, that could be utilized. In any event it is a ray of light for we MM's.
-
Well, thats a first. No "Your idea sux!" posts... Thank you all. So basicly we're back to the Devs don't care. Seriously this "rush the new without fixing the old" crap is why i left the game for a couple of years. Well, at least it was a good idea... Thanx again, Yall. yeh Im Southern.

Easy fix for this horribly annoying bug: Ranged/Normal/Melee Option.
A quick addition to individual MM pets that would remove certain powers from their line up without rewriting the entire A.I..
If set to Ranged, melee attacks will not fall into the line up for that pet i.e.: Thugs Arsonist, Mercs Medic, etc.
If set to normal Pet attack chain is as it always was.
If set to Melee, ranged attacks will not fall into the line up for pets like Thugs Bruiser.
This could be done without a complete rewrite to the pet A.I. and without major changes in pet behavior or powersets. Please consider this as this is a MAJOR issue for MM playability.
Thank you. -
Similar. Can log in but cannot enter missions. Seems like this should be less complicated after this long running. Sigh.

I read but didnt see it mentioned. The 2 protector bots along with casting stacking bubbles, also heal the other bots. Very useful between battles when there are no enemies to pull heal from. Also bots being machines have a nice resistance to psi attacks.
Also remember to think balance when selecting pets, thugs, and demons hit harder yes, but they die off more quickly than bots cuz bots are tougher and have better resistances. -
Temp invuln in Energy Mastery is showing that it takes Defense Sets but is a Resistance Power, and at the moment isn't accepting ANY sets. Still working towards the rest. Not much but a heads up just incase.

Wow, Its reading threads like this one that make me so proud to be a mostly solo player on a low pop server. I don't min/max. I don't even think i've changed the diff settings beyond basic unless i'm farming a group for a badge. I'm one of the few that actually likes to see the different Story Lines, so i'm not interested in being level 50 tomorrow. In other words I play just to have a good time playing. It's MY 15$ a month and unless you are gonna go ahead and pay that for me, Imma play it my way. It's a GAME, maaaan. Grab a kleenex, it's gonna be ok.

I wonder would it be possible to expand on this? When a kheld shifts form it loses access to most of it's powers. It is possible to click those powers then shapeshift. Would it be possible to keep some of those powers without having to form-change every time? Having access to build-up, heals, and toggles could go along way towards form specialization and stream-lining of the builds without needing a complete rework. Maybe even lessening the effectiveness of such powers in forms, without losing them completely.
Or if not those, perhaps allowing some of the pool powers to remain active such as fighting and stealth. Maybe its too much, but maybe it would draw a higher crowd of Kheld players too. -
Thanx for that. It actually worked and is very helpful.
