Power Proliferation That I'd Like To See

I saw what the new proliferation sets are going to be, and some of them look fantastic and I'm glad they're releasing them.

Now for the point of my topic. What powers would we the player of CoH/CoV/CoP like to see be proliferated or released? For me I'll list the ones I'd really like to see come out.

SPINES: (For Tankers) Please for goodness sake. As long as I've played this game, I've thought to myself this set never belonged for Scrappers and really should have been a tanker set. It has driven me nuts for years guys. Please, for goodness sake I'm begging you to give us Spines!!! I've literally got the slot and named saved for this. This will be one of my most rapid and dedicated 50's.

COLD DOMINATION: (For masterminds) We have thermal, why not cold? This would be really fantastic. Even cooler if we could have it tie into the animations of Device or Guns.(See below).

KINETICS: (For Masterminds) I've heard the arguments against it, but I'm sure any problems could be fixed.

Now for the ones I'd personally like to see:

TOXIC AURA: (For Tankers/Brutes/Scrappers) This one has bandied about a long time, and I can recall even discussing in chat with some Devs about the possibility a long time ago. I can think of so many classic Superheroes with this archetype, and frankly it just feels right within the City of Universe. Take those Contaminated fellas for instance.

Giant Form: (Tanker) I remember talking about this idea with Devs around the same time as the Toxic Aura discussion way back. I recall them even suggesting it would be possible though they had to look through concerns. I realize that Caves might mess with things, but man oh man, would this one be fantastic. It also really fits the lore of the game. With heroes such as Talos, the Serpent, and other such figures it would be nice to be able to be a giant.

Warshade/Peacebringer: (All Classes) If we could get a Pool power set to represent a kheldian melding with a superhero, that'd be fantastic. I recall in a comic exactly this happened, and you do run across some villains and superheroes who have this sort of blended list of powers. Would be great if we the player could do this as well.

Dirty Tricks: (Scrappers/Blasters/Stalkers) I've always thought there should be a set that represented the Technical/Natural side further. We need a set for the blaster secondary and scrapper/stalker primary that involves a mix of gadgetry and martial arts. I can name off a bunch of heroes that are very popular which follow this path. Would be great if we could do this too. Without being exactly like him, I think a lot of us would like the option to play something along the lines of Batman, Green Hornet, etc. (Though not the new Green Hornet, that movie was terrible).

Space Aliens: (Mastermind)
You know those aliens we all envision like from the 1950's sci fi? I would love to see them, with their ray gun and little green men look. It would be fantastic. Alternately, we could just go with Rikti. Throw in a couple bots, some basic alien shock troops, and one big bad alien in either some nasty armor or perhaps simply biologically modified or bulked out. This would be fantastic. Who doesn't like a good alien invasion?

Puppets: (Mastermind)
A somewhat Psionic styled set. I suggested this one a long time ago and I recall people really took to the idea. The essential idea is that you control deadly puppets, with or without strings raising to a controller or not. I could see some really creepy and cool concepts out of this one.

Animation Diversification:
I'd really like to see animations be diversified for the more Tech oriented player. For instance, power gauntlets or a big rifle to throw off fire blasts, fire controls, ice blasts, etc. The same could be done for magic, but the appearance of the powers now could always be conveyed as magical. To give them that true 'Tech' feel, it would be awesome if we could tie in Gun+Backpack type appearances, or 'Power Gauntlets' or the like.

For masterminds I'd like to see either the ability to adjust the look of my 'pets' or alternately to get different appearances for them. For instance: Ninjas could be given an Assassin look with the Oni given a more Genie-like appearance. For the Robots, there are all kinds of robotic styles one could go with. From clockwork (Praetorian and Primal), to the Mechs to the Malta. Thugs could get alternate Yakuza, Triad or Cosa Nostra look, or even more. Mercenaries could pick up a few new uniforms, Council-style, Malta-style, etc. Necros could get Skeletal (like the old Clash of the Titans), Pantheon or a Zombie Invasion look. Demons could get an alternate 'Elemental' look, for those of us that don't want to look at skinless meatbutts in our face. I see a lot of possibilities with this sort of change made to mastermind pets, though I'm sure its been held back for technical reasons.

I am just waiting patiently for them to proliferate Ice Melee to Stalkers. They are the only AT I do not have. A while back I thought about how cool (pun!) it would be, then they went ahead and proliferated Ice Armor. I am now waiting for the other half.

Conceptual thoughts aside, I really don't see Tankers getting Spines any time soon because of the extra taunt/damage aura, Tanks who're capable of sustained AoE damage are utter beasts so I'd imagine Spines would need several tweaks/changes to address any balance issues which come up for it being in Tanker hands. I'd rather they work on making it work with Shields beforehand because I really really want that

A Martial Arts based secondary for Blasters has been suggested a lot too and is something I really want (Beet the character is Energy/Dev, but I would remake Energy/MA in a heartbeet), though hadn't thought of it being incorporated as a general melee set. A combo SS, MA and Devices? Could be fun, can definately see the myriad of characters it can create, though I think the technical side of it may be difficult to flesh out. What about a full armour set made out of technical devices and dirty fighting techniques? The Scrapper's Ninjitsu, so to speak.

The scrapper's ninjitsu, is exactly why I made my Dark melee ninjitsu stalker. It was my closest approximation to a Batman-like archetype. I hate to just compare to Batman, but its definitely the first thing that comes to people's minds. With dark melee i got the snappy looking punches, and a couple dirty tricks with even the final skill Midnight Grasp possibly even being some kind of 'fear gas' type attack, if you want to look at it that way. Throw in caltrops, smoke grenades, etc and you have yourself a pretty fun combo. I'm just saying it would be nice to get some dirty tricks set.

I'm still adamant about wanting Spines. It just feels right. Besides, its not as though you can't taunt really hard other ways as well to excellent effect. Burn for instance. I also know my Fire/Spine Scrapper could do way more damage than a Tank version could every dream of (I wouldn't go with fire armor anyway for the concept I want). Ideally, a Toxic Aura / Spines tank would be fantastic.

By the by, I'd love the Mace Mastery effects to fire from the Crab Spider Legs instead of a mace... the mace just feels wrong on those guys.

YES! I would actually roll a MM, just for the potential hilarity.

YES YES YES, SO MUCH YES! This would be one of those things I would probably even be willing to pay for (Hey, there's an idea for when Freedom launches!). Since 99% of my characters are Tech origin, I would LOVE this.

The guns would be a new effect, but you can do Power Gauntlets already just using costume pieces and the default animations for most sets. I have several characters I already do that with.

This could be done a different way. Instead of completely new powersets, we could just add skins. Different npc skins selectable at the power modifying screen of your costume. No changes in powers, just npc looks. Depending on which primary you pick is what options you get offered, i.e. Mercenaries = Family, Council, 5th column. Robots = Clockwork (Primal or Praetorian), Rikti (lazer guns), Steampunk bots. And so on. All puchaseable, maybe, by the new points system.

You want Spines/Shield and you're worried Spines Tankers would be overpowered? :P

Soon(tm)

But at the rate we've gotten PP 1.0, 2.0 and now 3.0... don't expect 4.0 until late Summer 2012 at the earliest.

Thank you, City of Heroes, for giving me a superhero social network combined with amazingly smooth game play. Petitions signed with realistic expectations.

Now about a Ninjutsu Scrapper ALREADY !!!!!! sheesh..

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

Dark for controllers plz......

I'd like to see Ice Melee, Fire/Fire and /Invuln for Stalkers. Poison better make its way to Defenders, now that they're finally sharing it. Force Field for Corruptors... and pretty much every melee damage set for every melee archetype.

Funny... I specifically hope they do NOT ever proliferate Ninjitsu. I've always seen it as a condensed version of Super Reflexes with a heal and some Stalker-centric tricks up its sleeve, and I don't think it would be very good after being gutted to work on another archetype.

As for new powersets that are similar to existing bits... Dark Control of course would be interesting, but it would require some severe cuts to combine with Dark Miasma on a Controller. Some sort of Energy or Plasma Rifle set, probably expanded from the attacks in Robotics. A gadget-y control set. A gadget-y Assault set for Dominators, and maybe a naturalish brawling Assault set as well. Poisonous, Radiation, and Psychic themed sets for types that don't have them. A whip set would be great, even if I'm not holding my breath. Perhaps some sort of more tech armor set.

Proud member of Everyday Heroes (Infinity Heroes), Dream Stalkers (Infinity Villains), Devil Never Cry (Freedom Heroes), Enclave of EVIL (Pinnacle Villains), Phobia (Infinity Villains), Les Enfant Terribles (Freedom Villains), Gravy Train (Virtue Heroes), and more!

Well, Ice tankers already get 2 taunt auras (Icicles and Chilling Embrace) and IIRC Dark Tankers can actually have 3 (I could be wrong, but I believe both Oppressive Gloom and Cloak of Fear taunt.)

Admittedly none of Ice or Dark's secondary taunt auras deal damage (except to you in the case of the latter).

This is why I don't really see the large issue. Bearing in mind of course that Spines/Dark is fully available to Scrappers, a class that A) Does way more damage, but B) Can't take as much punishment.

While PBAOE Toggles can do decent damage, its not as strong as an active attack. Personally I see its best use in drawing enemies to you via a toggled taunt and simply the mechanic of aoe attacks. Not unlike many other aoe sets, some of which aren't toggles but nevertheless can function similarly (Like Fire Melee). I well suspect a Fire/Fire/Pyre tanker will out do what a Spines does damage wise, so I'm not really sure why it should matter if Tanks get spines.

I simply see the Taunting effects something more appropriate to tanks and by the by would Mesh well with other tank abilities. Ice/Spines for instance would look beautiful, especially with the power customization we have at our hands now. However, I also think a Toxic Aura/Spines Tank, if they would release such a power set, would be fantastic and thematic as well.

No, No it does not. If my spines/fire had a taunt aura, I dont think I would ever log onto something else.

The only thing Ninjitsu would lose on Scrappers is Caltrops. Other that, I see no issue w/ porting it over. It's only real drawback is no built in KB protection.

I've been begging for Spines for Brutes since i7. Obviously the -recharge secondary would need to go because Brutes rely on being hit to generate fury, but with a slight increase in the toxic secondary it could work really nicely. A Spines/Fire brute would be a truly unpleasant thing to behold.

Not to nitpick, but none of these are proliferations per the definition the developers use... they're new sets entirely.

I'm also not saying they're bad ideas--some of them are quite good. I believe it was ultimately determined that "Giant Form" isn't possible under the game engine, though, and you are correct that caves were specifically mentioned as one of many strikes against it. And the developers have also said that any new sets created will go to any AT that can reasonably use them... so your proposed "Toxic Aura" would be made available for Stalkers at launch and "Dirty Tricks" would go to Tankers, too.

(Also, the Green Hornet movie was awesome, shut up! )

Based on the developers' definition of Powerset Proliferation, I really want to see Energy Melee on Scrappers (and hopefully see it get some love, returning it to the status of single target damage king). I've been hoping for it since the first round of proliferation was announced prior to Issue 12.

The other proliferation I'd been waiting for, we'll actually be getting this round--Poison for Controllers. I want to make a Plant/Poison Troller soooo baaaaad.

Any other proliferations are just gravy.

A greater desire would be a new AT that uses Assault/Defense... Energy Assault/Willpower would be the perfect in-game representation of my main character.

Fury is generated by tohit checks made by you, and to you. If -recharge has to go, why not take cloak of fear from dark brutes.

It matters not.

My list is as it was before i21 was announced, Traps and Dark for Controllers, Illusion for Domis, Spines and Ice Melee for Brutes.

Yar, but the tohit checks are generated each time a mob uses an attack, right? So -recharge decreases those incoming tohit checks and ergo decreases fury. That's been one of the main arguments against Spines for brutes.

Hide and Caltrops would both need replacements. Hide could be traded for a combat stealth power that provides a small amount of unsuppressed stealth (ala Cloak of Darkness) and a small defense buff. Caltrops... I don't know. Scrappers get both web grenades and caltrops in Weapons Mastery. Blinding Powder is already a -tohit and perception debuff, so that rules out Smoke Grenade. Stun grenade maybe? Anything else gadgety to replace caltrops with?

The other potential problem is Smoke Flash. People will say it's not Scrapper-like to have an AoE-placate, but honestly... this power sucks even for Stalkers. It does not grant a critical the way the primary Placate power does. Solo, it is basically an AoE sleep with a short duration and very long recharge. On a team, it is a "dump aggro on my teammates" power.

Long story short, it sucks. But if Stalkers have to put up with it, Scrappers better the hell not get anything more useful in a proliferation.

The mobs cowering in fear produce how many tohit checks again?

Mostly correcting the idea that you need to get hit to generate fury.

That being said, I would be fine with spines ported with the -rech.
