Are Custom Pets a Good Idea?

Just an Idea i've had and I'd like to get a bit of feedback. I play a Merc/FF MM and the theme of my character is inspired by the captain scarlet Tv show.
My char is called Col. White and ive coloured him reflectively.
My soldiers are:
Lt. Green
Lt. Orange
Lt. Purple

Spec ops:
Cpt. Blue
Cpt. Yellow

Commander:
Cpt. Scarlet

It would be nice if there was some way I could colour my pets uniform and maybe add or take away some costume bits, though no where need the level of character creation. A slight customisation of pets would be cool no? If they can do it with powers surely it makes sense to do it with with pets. Thoughts?

Good call.

Yeah if those characters are copyrighted you will get generic'd . Happened to me twice so far.

To the question I hope they do allow customisation or at least a couple of costume choices. Maybe once MM's become exclusive they'll do some work on this for added value.

It not a copy. I was "inspired". Its obvious that it would be used for just general customisation. So I dont think that was relevant.
And the show is a cult puppet show from the 80's not exactly wolverine rip-off.

If you make a green huge character called the Hulk it is Intellectual Property and a rip off, so will get genericed.

Guess what a (Mastermind) Col. White, Cpt. Blue and Cpt. Scarlet are?

Yes, Copyrighted Intellectual Property!!!

Bad move, never copy any form of existing characters belonging to another IP, that includes but is not limited to: Marvel, DC Comics, Carlton International Media Limited, or any other similarly related IP.

FFs forget it then.
Are custom pets a good idea? Guess people are more interested in digging for something to look slate me for than to talk about it.

However, you can make all the Thor knockoffs you want. That's copyright "Ancient Viking Lore".

Also no problem if you make them a parody, but it has to be obvious that you're changing something and/or making fun of the concept. I'm pretty sure making a "Captain Canada" shield/SS tank is allowed, even if he looks an awful like a certain other "Captain" hero who just got a movie made about him...

Fixt'

Been suggested in various forms both simple and complex since a few days before Masterminds went live.

As an aside, don't look at it as 'an attack' look at it as a neighbor looking out for a neighbor. It's possible you weren't aware of the generic risk is all.

I say this problem can be solved by using Skins and Colors. Skins would be overlays of your pets as ones already in the game. Such as family for mercs. Colors would be like demons; primary color affects pets base color, secondary affects pet trim color, all costume pieces at once if it makes it easier. These simple additions to systems already in the game could revitalize MMs. Also adding ranged/melee toggles for ai control could fix the run-in bug.

k,
bye.

If it were that simple and easy, it would have been done already. Standard Code Rant applies.

Again, it's just not that easy.

If you don't understand the code involved in a system, don't comment on the complexity of proposed changes.

Obviously it IS that easy, as made obvious by all the new Lore pets and thugs mm skin randomiser. AND just because it seems easy doesn't mean the Devs have thought of it yet. Have you ever suggested it before? Have you started a thread about it yet? No? Thought not. Fix that big head of yours, Oh Forum King.

For colors, I did learn that on AE you can customize the colors of the pets. Though it does the entire outfit so it would only be useful to Bots and maybe zombies. The other sets would not work.

I think they just can't spare the art resources to do it. In the power proliferation announcement for i-21 they mentioned that the reason they added Ice Armor to stalkers is because they were told they had to choose a powerset that would require no art changes. I'm thinking those guys are busy doing something that takes up all their time.

I figure there are 2 ways of doing custom pets, full customization and selecting a model. Full customization has the problem of using about the same amount of computer resources as a player. So playing a mission with 6 fully customized henchmen would use up the same resources as a mission with a bunch of players in it. Now if we have 8 masterminds with 6 fully customized henchmen, then it would cost an insane amount of resources to run that mission. Selectable models uses up the same amount of resources as a regular mastermind, but we are limited to a select number of models to use. For example, robots could have steampunk robots, sleeker robots, and regular robots. Ninjas could have cyber ninjas, female ninjas, and regular ninjas. I would love to see female cyber ninjas.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

I'm going to start here, because the only thing that needs fixing is your attitude. My initial response to you was in no way hostile or demeaning, yet this is how you retort? Please grow up if you intend to debate.

Which of those two makes it obvious? You mean how you can't actually customize the appearance of your Lore pets, and only the summoning effects? Or how you can't chose what thug skins come out?

The technology is not there for you to chose even from a list of skins. It's not a simple "add it to the screen" fix.

If you had done any bit of reading on any of the previous topics regarding this manner, you would see that this has been brought up countless times. If you go back far enough, you can see that the Devs have thought of it, and said that it would be too much work and is not currently possible.

Yes I have, actually. When I read the developer response to such requests as custom pets, I started a thread that asked if the players would be content merely coloring their henchmen if custom skins/models were not possible.

See how that works? I did some research. I tried to understand how the code worked, what was involved, what the hurdles were. Then I came up with a possible solution.

What did you do?

Insist, in ignorance, that it "Obviously is that easy." You clearly have never had any experience in any kind of computer theory, let alone programming. I've been a programmer, I know what can be involved in code. I know that I cannot even begin to assume how complex the code is regarding henchmen and their appearance.

Again, grow up.
