Saw the preview this morning at X-men. Looked surprisingly good. At some point Andy Serkis has to get an Oscar for the life he puts into these virtual performances. Caesar looks awesome.

This second trailer looks like they're merging a couple metaphors together there. Not just the hackneyed "there are some things man was not meant to meddle with" trope, but also touching on things like unnecessary animal experimentation as well as a metaphor for such blots in medical history like the Tuskegee experiments and the treatment of Henrietta Lacks and her family. And maybe a bit of Benedict Arnold thrown in for good measure.

With super-intelligent apes.

I'm there.

It does look good. I wish that they would have built on to the movie that had Mark Walberg in it, I want to know how General Thade went back in time and how he took over and made all the apes like they were and so on and so on, anyone else? I really got chills when I saw the ending of that movie where General Thade's memorial was where Abe Lincoln's was at. I am a sad panda for never knowing how or why, someone please fix it. :P

Oh god no. The sooner that movie gets forgotten, the better. What a waste of film.

Some things should be left alone...see the plot of the movie and remakes

My buddy and I had a bet about the last part of the trailer where you see "Caesar" (the chimpanzee) was plotting something. He says that's an actor in a suit with heavy makeup but I think it's CGI. What do you think?

So far, watching just the trailers, I'm unimpressed with the movie.

I think it's better to just assume they took over the world and not show how, cuz right now, what I'm seeing, is a lab of enhanced gorillas takes over the world.

I just don't see how a city of people, who all have the possibility to be armed, can lose to a species that numbers what...20 maaaybe 50?

Well, you'll just have to go see how it happens, won't you?

The article touches on this. The makers are aware that humanity as it is can't be taken down. Their reasoning is that if you remove some key advantages we have, we won't be that unstoppable. I'm assuming the apes will be aiming for that.

Number of apes vs numbers of humans advamtage is another thing I'm interested in seeing how it's balanced out.

I think it looks pretty entertaining.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

Pop off a couple EMPs near our major military bases or communications centers and we are *****. Honestly we've become so reliant on our technology, take it away and will we have issues adjusting.

one thing I thought about even though they touched on the subject...there shouldn't be THAT many apes in a single US city...much less several

Not gonna lie. Gave me the chills, def looking forward to this.

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

the more I read about it, the more stupid this movie seems and that the original actually makes more sense.

unless the drug they exposed Caesar to is a virus, they'll have to keep making more to expose newborn apes/chimps/etc to.

You're talking about science, and the drug that makes the apes intelligent was developed with SCIENCE!

There's a big difference between SCIENCE! and science.

Saw this trailer with the X-Men movie. I was impressed.

So I saw a preview on the net a little bit ago, it was a shorter one. And then I saw the longer preview tonight with X-men. I had my mom with me which was cool because she and her high school friend (my godmother) were huge into planet of the apes when they were younger. I think they sat through like 4 or 5 of them in a marathon at the theatre once.

Anywho, being really big into planet of the Apes, she got pretty jazzed about it. I'm more impressed now with the longer preview too, so it'll be fun to take her to see it when it comes out (hopefully midnight showing.) I wanna see it with a diehard PotA fan, it'll make for interesting discussion afterwords.

It's a metaphor. Do we not understand metaphor any more?

Also, there's no way the original movie could make more sense. I mean, c'mon, where the hell did Taylor think he was, anyway? A bunch of apes with Christian names running around speaking English? I don't care what you told your fellow travelers, that's not Alpha Centauri, Bright Eyes.

The entire arc of the original PotA series is really, really good "science fiction as metaphor," because the story of the first ape to say "No!" echoes any number of creation stories from religion and politics throughout our history, and mimics the simplicity and inevitability (and hence the rightness) of such tales. It's also fun from a purely science fictional aspect, because although the leader of the ape revolt has become mythologized by the time of the events in PotA, what really happens is that the apes telling that story travel back through time to sire the "advanced ape" who leads the revolt... who isn't actually the one given credit for it. But the myth needs a martyr, and one was offered up as an excuse to kick the revolution off right.

Scientifically plausible? No. Great fun with an interesting subtext? Absolutely.
