I was not suggesting raining on anyones culture, but no comicbook cultures are never going to be close to being correct or real. Can't happen really. Things have to be streamlined and melded for the sake of story and game play, otherwise we would simply be overwhelmed with meaningless details. Comicbook cultures just need flavor, not precision. I seriously doubt that melding multiple Asian concepts together would hurt in anyway and in fact would help to create something both familiar and unique.

Technically speaking... Isnt a hmong-town supposed to be in Skyway? There is a contact there, Kong Bao, who is supposed to be a big man in the Hmong community...Plus Thao Ku, another notable Hmong, is also located there and Cho Ge an ex Tsoo reformed gangsta is there... Granted I dont recall any Tsoo in Skyway, but thats probably due to the bass akwards design of the original game.

Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.

and since we are going more by anime asian history than real japanese history, im sure we could indulge in some artistic alterations. there certainly are aspects in folklore that allow for a powerful female character even in more traditional times in japan. the character of the shamanic princess himiko certainly pops up a lot and she may or may not have even existed. similarly in the kojiki(a shinto creation story) inzunagi, the chief creation god is opposed by his equally powerful deceased former wife, inzunami. so a re-tool of her could also work well, if we are going strictly japanese. one dodge i had suggested with my future japan, global environmental damage had cause mass migrations from korea and mainland china to japan, that way we can use the guild wars method of "lets take the cool stuff from all 3 histories and jumble it up" not great for puritst, but if i get my zone, ill be good.
NO I certainly don't have you on ignore LOL Love some of your ideas NOW if we can just get the Dev team to pay attention to us ... keeping in mind THEY asked us to VOTE years ago on what we'd like to see next in game and we are STILL waiting on our Moon base. I think they decided to go another way.

It'd be nice if they redid the architecture in one section of Skyway to be chinatown-like and moved the Tsoo from Steel, or just added them there.

And I love the ideas in this thread, both those based on the original and the thread jacks.

actually i'm an idiot and meant to say indep port. I know that in some situations large communities that immigrated to new countries formed small pockets of areas that were similar to their homeland close to where new immigrants would show up, an established community that sprang up back when boats were the preferred mode of mass travel would indicate a port town. plus, ip is, stf and giant monster notwithstanding, kinda dead compared to talos, figured id give it some character.

Steampunk Mecha for Giant Monster!

Oh, and I saw the Tsoo do something... namely I've seen their "sorcerers" run away like cowards anytime someone looks at them funny.

In all seriousness, though, I like the ancient Japan idea (can we get Geisha Lore pets too?) but I'd also like to see some part of a city zone - be it Skyway or Steel - be converted into a Chinatown-style area where you would see more of a Tsoo presence than any other gangs.

All the enemy groups need a major overhaul and thematically fitting bases, end of.
However, given the Steampacks release I'd much rather tie that in with more Nemesis bases, giving a revamp to the old Nemesis minions (steam-wing troopers, anyone?) and balance some of their horrifically bland (and cheaty) later level mobs.

The Tsoo need much more diversity in their mobs, more spirit/oni minions, LTs and Bosses, and some actual Tsoo themed bases. Underground opium dens filled with thick carpets and dragon tapestries on the walls, anyone?

Oh noes! My thredz haz bin Jak'd! Can we get back on topic? I kinda had a thought that maybe the Daimyo and their soldiers could be themed around the Four Divine Beasts of Japanese Mythology:

Seiryuu, the Azure Dragon:

*Reptilian motif, with mostly melee fighters, and the tougher foes have wood-based powers.

Seiryuu, as he has come to be called, was a skilled fighter since childhood, and a master of the Bō staff. He has come here from Kyoto for the mystic artifacts hidden at Kamijima.*(A classic Japanese Feudal lord, with all the classic traits. Very prim, proper, polite, and will pursue a vendetta to the bloody, violent, bitter end.)

Suzaku, the Vermilion Bird:

*Feathered motif, flight, very agile, high-powered foes have fire powers.

A regal and noble Daimyo, Suzaku is from a tropical southern island. He has come to retrieve the mighty artifacts he feels he deserves.*(Arrogant, and Ziggy Stardust-level flamboyant, with a theatrical flair, quite a bit like Captain Castillo.)

Byakko, the White Tiger:

*Nimble, but tough. Feline motif. Swords and claws mostly. Stronger foes have metal-based powers.

An angry warlord from the West, Byakko and his men are searching for magical power, no matter who gets in their way.*(A Ragey McAngryFace with a temper, and the strength to back it up. Like any Troll, only with better speech patterns.)

Genbu, The Black Serpent

*Slower, tougher enemies (Like Turtles) coupled with quick, toxic enemies (Like Snakes). More powerful Tortoise enemies have ice abilities, while the deadlier Snake enemies have a lot of debuffs, fast melee attacks, and DoT.

A calm, calculating Daimyo who knows when to be a tortoise, and when to be a snake, Genbu plots to take the arcane might of Kamiji for his own plans... *(Basically, something of an ancient Japanese Nemesis stand-in, except not as adept. Complete with 'powderpunk' tech based on gunpowder and far in advance of the rest of ancient Japan.)*

well, we are trying to help, generally we are trying to get things to work within the existing city before going for oroboros stuff that would require a huge amount of new artwork and would spread the population out further, plus some people get a bit annoyed that we enter the distant past and find that machine guns and giant robots seem not particularly stronger than a group of roman legionnaires. I mean, your ideas are neat, but you added a full new powerset with animations, a new zone, whole new enemy groups, i love it but you are seriously asking for a pony here im just trying to give all possible options, because i really want it to happen.

and tec, yeah sounds good, maybe opium den might push the ratings a bit, mentioning real drugs gets sketchy, but if they could work around that, then signed to jupiter. Maybe we could work in the yakuza finally, so that we dont force culturally inappropriate designs down their tsoo's throat.

[QUOTE=Wicked_Wendy;3662692] One more suggestion.. Let's add a new Giant Monster to the zone. The Japanese view dragons as a source of power and magic so let's add a dragon with fire and some magic attacks. Before the posts start.. Yes I know the Devs say that adding animals that walk on 4 legs isn't feasible, or whatever, but not all dragons walk on four legs.. I have seen plenty of drawings, ect where a dragon walked upright on two legs similar to a man. Heck some dragons have even been depicted as shape shifters that can assume human form.. How about we make the War Lord in the TF a shape shifting dragon. Defeat him once and when he arises he takes on Dragon form to battle the TF again. Then have a similar dragon, the Spirit of a defeated war lord, appear from time to time in zone to be battled seperately. [QUOTE]

Actually most Asian dragons are more snakelike in appearance. While they do have legs they tend to move around more snakelike or are flying/hovering on a routine basis. They also have wings that are generally too small to provide suficient lift without the aid of magic, unlike European style dragons which are more lizard like and have much larger wings. Since NCSoft has already made that snake faction in CoV (dont remember the name offhand) it is probably technically feasable to make a giant snakelike dragon.

Dragonhawk (lvl 50 fire/energy blaster)
Flamefrost (lvl 50 fire/ice blaster)
'Snowflake (lvl 50 ice/dev blaster)
Dragons' Flame (lvl 50 fire/fire tank)

[I used the Midnighter Club as a starting point because the Tsoo do practice magic so who better to ask us to help stop them].

A Coop TF could pit us against various Tsoo leaders (AVs) and ultimately a battle against the War Lord himself. Now here's a twist ... in Cimerora we discovered 5th Column and Nictus causing the unrest and creating the situation that makes it necessary for us to go and stop Romulus. In this zone how about we utilize Darrin Wade and a group of Ex-midnighters. Darrin is described as an Ex Midnighter himself that left with a number of stolen artifacts. Along with his associates he has traveled back in time to aid the TSoo and form an alliance that ultimately could allow him to destroy the Midnighters in our present. Depending on when all that would take place it could have even greater effects since most of the Omega team that stopped the Rikti invasion were Midnighters.. no Midnighters Club .. No Omega team ... and we are all Rikti slaves!

One more suggestion.. Let's add a new Giant Monster to the zone. The Japanese view dragons as a source of power and magic so let's add a dragon with fire and some magic attacks. Quinch Sorry but there just are not that many comic books or cartoons that revolve around super heroes in Africa. About the only one I can recall is the old Phantom cartoons and those were never as popular as Batman, Spidy or Superman. Thanks to Anime there is just a lot more interest in anything oriental.
The Tsoo are Korean.

First Zone they should make is an Airport. How are you going to get to other places otherwise?

Other zones they should have are:

Arctic (Alaska, Ukon, Siberia), Underwater, Space (Moon, Mars, Asteroids, Moons of Jupiter, planets in other star systems), Jungle Temple (Aztec / Maya / S or SE Asia / Africa / Pacific Island), Mountain High Lands (Andes, Tibet, Nepal), Desert (Southwest / North Africa / Egypt), Forest.

I want to see a Sky Raiders Zone with a bunch of Air Ships hovering above the Ocean (something like the islands in Oroboros). You fight your way from Air Ship to Air Ship.

There should be suburbs with Victorian Homes, supermarkets and strip malls. Should feature a Haunted Castle, a Prep School where students are being killed... non-council/fifth column vampires, & werewolves, gaslight ghouls, spirits, mad scientists, evil kids making neuclear weapons in their basement, aliens in disguise living in the culdusac down the street.

There should be a Museum of Natural History with Evil exhibits (mummies, haunted artifacts, possessed armor, frozen dinosaurs that thaw out alive...etc.).

There should be a City Library with rare volumes that contain clues to mysteries, and a labyrinth beneath. Obvioiusly there should be a Haunted Opera House.

Some faction (council or fifth column), should be building a space-craft in the crater of the volcano on Striga Island. Come to think of it, they need to do a lot more with Striga.

I think the biggest problem is they tried to think out of the box.. yeah we have known baddies like the chinese triads and jaapnese yakuza, lets use a little known post vietnam ethnicity with ambiguous modern borders and no specific major films showing its unique culture. i honestly had never heard of the hmong before coh, and with my martial arts nerdism, i thought i knew about a lot of specific obscure ethnic traditions. Mongolia at least was a world dominator once, the hmong, basically all i could find is that they helped us in Vietnam, and there was some violence involving a hunting incident in michigan. and they settled prominently in austrailia and america post the vietnam war and attendant skirmishes.

Its cool to support something different, and i learned about something i never knew about, but it cuts down cultural touchstones. i know japanese on sight, i can usually identify chinese archetechture and weapons, korea has been a little less active in promoting their history abroad, though their martial arts are pretty ubiquitous, im even pretty good at thailand right now, thanks to tony jaa and company. hmong, im at a loss.

This area would come complete with:

*Warring Feudal Factions: There would be at least four warring Daimyo (feudal lords) with troops in this island of Kamijima, each with their own contacts.

* A Task Force centered on finding and protecting Yata no Kagami, the Mirror used to lure the Sun goddess Amaterasu out of her cave after being harassed by her brother Susanō. This mirror is a powerful Incarnate Artifact, and its holder would be blessed with divine might. This TF would give either merits or threads upon completion, with common, uncommon, or even rare tables for very high challenge settings and getting the badges for MO.

*Battle Kappa, Tengu, Oni, and other Yōkai in the wilderness of Kamijima, and perhaps even pick up a drop of incarnate power in doing so.

*More Ancient Japanese styles! A few new hair and costume options, awarded upon completing the new Yata no Gami TF.

*A special Giant Monster: Denketsu! This big, mean S.O.B. hates when people successfully defend the Yata no Gami, and is prone to going on rampages whenever this occurs. This giant dragon is bigger and meaner than any other Monster, and will take many heroes to defeat.

And anything more we might be able to think up.
I like, but should it really be limited to just ancient japan? The zone should incorporate more influences other than that /sign

Rather see Ancient China honestly. I'd be down for Japan so long as we didn't have "those" players running around in it.

given the popularity both of manga featuring feudal japan and western comics that pop to this time period often, i'll thank you not to try and tell me what is super. this idea, in whatever shape it takes, has more than enough precedent in popular comics to justify it, and we can do without people trying to kick out comic genres that they think, and i use that term loosely, aren't "super" enough.
