Ghost of Scrapyard
Hi
Yesterday, i saw him for the first time, but without seeing his lvl, i dunno if was a good idea to attack. I read that giant monsters "change lvl" depending on the player lvl, but a lvl29 MM (bots/dark) have any chance to do it alone? (after fight protean and die over and over again, I'm more cautious. Btw... thanks to the Lvl49 who finally help me) (as usual, soz for my english) |

Other 50's Ph10x Brute Unjust Law Tanker Samantha Urai Scrapper Codename 1250 Scrapper
Cepheus Defender Nilus Scrapper Electro Field Blaster S.PONGE Tanker
A fully spec'd out MM with an eye towards AV stomping could probably do it.
A level 29 MM? Unlikely. Not necessarily impossible, but it would take a specialized build.
Giant Monsters (GM's) automatically scale thier damage taken and damage given to the
level of the character attacking/being attacked (so a level 50 fights a GM like it's a 50 and a level 30 fights a GM like it's a 30).
The Rikti Invasion mobs and the Zombie Apocalypse mobs do the same sort of scaling.
However, GM's have a metric-ton of hit points and a healing/regeneration rate to match.
There are folks who can solo them, but it usually takes a specialized "arch-villain killing" build to do it. You need massive damage output and a good source of anti-regeneration (or vice versa) to keep ahead of thier healing curve.
The bot blasts do have -regen so that definately helps, but I'd expect that 29 is just a bit too early in the character's career to solo GM's (most of them at least).
I forget what level the scrapyarder followers tend to spawn at, but that could also be a consideration if they aren't deep grey to you yet (GoS gets a lot of those follower mobs with him).
6000+ levels gained and 8 level 50's

@Inquisitor
All level-less monsters have a level - for scrapyard, IIRC it's 25-30. You only notice it at a point when the mob gets easier even with the level scaling code.
For example, invasion rikti with the code are a base of level 30 - which combined with the number of powers a low or high level character has is why they are a bit harder or easier for the lower or upper level characters.
I know his followers are level 24. If you can take out an even level AV you have a /chance/ (but AVs are +4, GMs +5 to their level)

(That said, I haven't hit "all out" - Last time, my failure was largely on account of a horrific lagfest, wherein I could only attack about once every 10 seconds. The first time, without even dropping a temp power, I was about 20% shy of the damage required to overcome his regen)
The good news is that Giant Monsters are relative to your level - they hit you as though they were exactly your level, so you take less damage from a GM as a level 29 than you would as a level 30, 40 or 50. The bad news is that scrapyard has a lot of "normal" followers with him, and if they show up as anything other than grey in your targetting window, the sheer number of them can really help to ruin your day. The even worse news is that if they're a little bit of trouble for you, they can be even more trouble for your henchmen, who are lower level than you are.
In the 40-50 level range, an MM could quite conceivably solo a Giant Monster. /Dark is in a good position to do so with its combination of self-healing, regeneration debuffs and a -resistance debuff. Gathering temporary powers (such as the Biological Mutagen and Chemical Warhead nukes from Warburg) and using them in the fight can also help you a great deal. The highest tier of bot you can obtain also has a chance to cause a regen debuff that can put a serious dent in Scrapyard.
You can solo a GM with the right build. I've done it on a Rad/Sonic defender.
Illusion/Rad controllers have the easiest time of it, but I've heard of other combos doing it too.
Your level 29 mastermind? Probably not gonna happen. Might be doable once you hit level 50 and start really tweaking your character, but at level 29 you haven't even gotten your second pet buff power yet.

All GM's show as purple, and IIRC are at least +5 to your current level. Not many people (if any at all) can take a GM down solo...

At this point, if he posted a video of him soloing a Rikti Dropship on a petless MM I'd probably believe it was legitimate.
also, they're not +5 to your level it's a bit wonky. Here's the link to the specifics:

Also, testing has shown that the level shift from Alpha Slot doesn't apply vs GMs. The bonuses still do, but the formula that calculates "relative level" doesn't give you a +1 if you're alpha slotted for level shift.
the short strategy to easymode killing of a GM:
Stock up on many large purples and a few oranges and greens (blues if you have end trouble)
Craft backup radio, craft envenomed dagger, craft power analyzer Mk III, get shivans, get Vanguard HVAS. Warburg Nukes Optional. Wedding Ring recommended but optional. Any temp power shields (from Siren's Call, temp powers etc) also optional but recommended. Recovery Serum optional but recommended if you can't run your best attack chain for 5 minutes without running out of endurance. Temp power Med Kit optional but recommended to give more slots for purples.
Go to Perez Park and find Kraken (note he's not always up, but quite often). Summon all your pets. take insps and turn on temp powers to get your defenses to 45%. Unload. Use the analyzer and time the envenomed daggers to keep that -regen debuff on him pretty constantly. If you have any -regen powers of your own, use those often.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
Occasionally, when I'm bored, I bring in my twinked out SS/WP Brute and
go toe-to-toe with GoS and his cannon fodder stooges.
The Brute character is immune to him due to his high res and reg, so there's
no danger of him losing the fight.
On the other hand, he can't put out enough damage to even scratch the
paint on GoS (even though he can solo a Rikti Pylon).
So, it ends up being a complete stalemate that looks like an epic slugfest of a battle.
The amusing thing, is that after a few minutes, enough ppl wander by to
watch, that a team soon forms and GoS gets sent packing...
Big Fun. (OK, I'm easily amused)
Regards,

PS> I only have one other character (a tank) that would even consider
going toe-to-toe with him though (and he can't kill GoS solo either).

1. Roll an Ill/Rad controller or Bots/Poison MM and level to 50
2. Earn 10 Billion+ inf to deck out your character with softcapped defenses plus purple damage procs, gobs of recharge, etc.
3. Kill anything you want no temps no inspirations
So shorter, but not as easy.
The shortened short version is:
1. Load up every temp power you can muster (mandatory: Envenomed dagger, Vanguard HVAS, & Shivan)
2. Load up as many large purples as you can and email a few more just to be safe
3. Kill anything you want (start with someone easy just to get the hang of it)

Silverado has solo'd virtually everything using a variety of characters. Including taking down GMs on a blaster before incarnate stuff became available.

... This has probably gotten a bit technical for someone who's only one month into the game.
Dear OP: Giant Monsters are _designed_ to be beaten by, roughly, ten or twelve ordinary, not-built-for-crazy-stuff, characters. They con deep purple for a reason.
Yes, it is possible that if you're running the right character, with the right build, and a lot of temporary powers, and it's the second full moon in a month, you can beat a Giant Monster by yourself.
For reference, Archvillians are easier than Giant Monsters and I've got one character who's soloed an Archvillian. (one Archvillian.) And I've been here almost seven years.
So ... I wouldn't try it.

I could see a bot/ MM doing it if they use a ton of insp and were built exactly for doing it. Those dang robot throw out A LOT of -regen.

My Bots/Dark has taken down a number of GMs (not Scrapyard; I tried but he runs way too much and tends to drone himself), all at level 50. Haven't tried any at a lower level, but I was able to solo Captain Castillo as an AV in a Flashback to Roy Cooling's arc exemped down to level 29 (admittedly, he doesn't require a full defeat in that, but I was still able to do enough damage).

The T2s have no -regen.
The T3 has one attack with -regen, and it only has a 30% chance to apply. (Admittedly, it's -500% regen, equivalent of Lingering Radiation or Howling Twilight.)
If you could get Assbot to cycle Plasma Blast as fast as possible, and never resort to Smash (or any of the powers he gets from being upgraded), he could average somewhere in the vicinity of -750% regen to a single target, before GM resistances. While that doesn't sound bad, that's an average over time, not a hard number. And a GM will resist a lot of that.
Make it a Bots/dark and you can do a lot better, spamming Twilight Grasp (-50% guaranteed, 20s duration, 10.37s base cycle time) and Howling Twilight (-500% guaranteed, 30s duration, 183.17s base cycle time), plus the Twilight Grasps from Dark Servant. /Dark also adds some -res from Tar Patch, which is similar to what you're accomplishing with application of -regen in the first place.

Scrapy runs like a chicken with its head cut off. Fricken annoying. The flyer and Caleb are pretty annoying too.
But Deathsurge, Kraken, Babbage, and what'shisfaceindarkastoria have never run out of a tar patch or burn patch in my experience.

I just fought GoS in a team of 8 villains i was using my lvl 23 nin/nin stalker one character was a lvl 50 but almost every one else was lvl 40 or less, i died twice while fighting and we managed to get GoS away from his mob entirely so we didnt even have to face the mob, and as a stalker my biggest problem with that fight was either running out of end or his awesome knockback this was the first time i ever took down a GM, i tried once before with my lvl 32 Necro/Dark MM and a friends lvl 22 demon/pain dominator, it didnt work at all.
The path of Villainy is an arduous one, but one that must be tread because without it there would be no heroes, and what would the world be like without either. So for all those heroes out there I chose Villainy.
