Steampunk Booster Costume Ideas
JOY! I can get on US test and get at steampunk items.
Techbot, put /LaunchGame=CohTest at the end of the shortcut to your NCSoft Launcher, then either direct it to your existing EU test directory or make a new one. Log into that, and blammo.
Necrobond - 50 BS/Inv Scrapper made in I1

Aber ja, natrlich Hans nass ist, er steht unter einem Wasserfall.
Thanks Necrotron! Kudos.
I'm afraid that this is the first booster pack that I simply do not like. There's too much brown in it, and too much of it is not tintable.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

I think there are many things here that make this a bit of a landmark in terms of costume design and animations for me.
The fullmap faces are just amazing. Going back and forth between the regular faces and the new ones just showed the level of difference and it's a big step forward in that area. I'll take this over animated faces anyday.
Costume wise, the rendering of cloth on the jackets along with the piping, the faint sheen of leather and hints of reflective metal on the boots and gloves along with the weapons (as well as the etching on the handles) is a testament to an art team whose priority is quality, first and foremost. The backpack and wings are also excellently designed.
The auras, especially the Victoriana and Oil Trail are superb. This is something I haven't seen anywhere else in any game and they're intricate, subtle and just gorgeous to look at. I have to give Tunnel Rat big congratulations here, this just amazing work.
I do think this is a turning point where costumes are showing their next-gen potential compared to their last-gen counterparts. More of this, definitely. Bravo.

I downloaded the Test patch last night before I went to bed but had to make a conscious effort not to play with it this morning for fear that I'd roll into work three hours late. I wanna go home and plaaaaaaaaay!
I wonder if there's any chance of using the new face tech on hands/gloves. I don't know enough about it to know if it's even practical but some new realistic hands sure would be nice with the new realistic faces.
Ok, you guys have me stoked. I can hardly wait.

EDIT: Removed rage. EU test and US test are separate entities. I just started a US test download with my EU test folder specified as the install directory, and it's grabbing a massive 1GB update, so the content is NOT the same between them.
We'll see how things are when this is done. |

The Victorian aura looks lovely on Valkyrior! I freakin' love all of the stuff in this pack, but I think the real winners for this pack are the auras!

Fresh from the Zig.
here are a couple of mine:
Fist I didn't see any one displaying the clunker aura which seemed to work awesome for a 1940s cybernatic pin up gal hero the hair, face, guns and boots are also from the pack and work so perfect :P
and this is a couple refits for Gadget-boy one is a total steam punk costume and the other is a refit for his chimora mechanical roman costume (I'll probably keep the steam jet aura he had before on that one I just wanted to play with the new one)
Now I just hope I can scrounge up the money for it
*sigh* I'm really rather disappointed that the only guns we get look like Nerf or Super Soaker guns with a paint-job. I was looking forward to some period appropriate revolvers or pepperboxes. I also feel that there's far too much skin showing with many of the female pieces. I realize that Steampunk isn't 100% true to Victorian fashion, but it's much closer than these pieces.
Oh well. Still gonna get it. Probably won't actually use any of it on my one character that is actually from the Victorian era though. Logging onto Test now to play with it now though, so we'll see if things change once I play around a bit.

You know, you can cover yourself quite a bit with the Victorian pieces. I've shown skin on my characters because that's how it fits them. On Elven Ranger she is completely covered up from neck-to-toe.

The Decor aura is a marked improvement IMO over Silverwing Sentinel's old Runes aura, and Illumineer's got a nice new plainclothes outfit:

Since my desktop is capable of rendering in full Ultra mode, I thought I'd go in and find EVERYTHING in the new set and display it. This is not a "creative" shoot. This is more informational. You want to know what ALL the options are? Here's 99% of them on display!
Here's the parameters of this shoot:
All Graphics set on high end Ultra so as to display the maximum amount of detail (and boy is there a LOT of detail!).
I used the Praetorian Character create menu so as to accentuate that sort of "brassy" look. The costumes are all set with two main colors. Nothing complicated. The colors are a deep brown and a gold. Some pieces were colored individually, but most were just fine with the default "set to all" switch on. All body proportions are set to defaults. I used "Male" and "Female". With the assumption that "Huge" would be a duplicate of "Male" I omitted taking shots of that.
There is "Classic Steampunk" and "Victorian Steampunk" as a theme. There was nothing in the way of a set theme set into the costume generator as a default. So I went menu hunting. I'm 99% certain I found everything.
I've taken shots of each as it's own set. Either all "Classic Steampunk" or all "Victorian Steampunk". No mixing of the two. This is only to show off the set pieces themselves. (Though obviously mixing of elements would create some even niftier outfits, that's not the point of this shoot.
Backbacks and Wings are displayed on the male characters. I omitted them on the female models for clarity.
There are no "Steampunk" Blade sets. And no powers that have different effects based on Steampunk. The only powers that have skins for Steampunk are the Assault Rifle and Dual Pistols. So they are displayed here.
There are two different Auras. "Clunker" and "Victorian Effects". Clunker is on display on the "Classic" set. Victorian on the Victorian, naturally.
There are slightly more costume options than what's shown here. There are a couple of alternate coat options for the Male Victorian and a couple of different belt options for the Female Classic Steampunk. But what you see here is at almost everything. If it's not shown, it either doesn't exist or there are only a couple of variants of the piece to show anyway.
The last Costume set I was taking shots of was the Female Victorian. Partway through, something went wonky with my snip tool and I could only get an all black screen. But that's ok, since I was meaning to take some shots of emotes and such anyway. So I made the actual character and set her into Mercy Island for the emote shots.
There are three Steampunk Emotes: "Inspiration" (Which I tend to call "Eureka"), "Hot Temper" (stomping the ground, steam coming out of ears) and "Steam Whistle", which is exactly as advertised. Heh.
So - Voila:
I don't like how the Magic Pack gave the Baron costume pieces to Males only and have been wanting them for some of my characters, but some the Steampunk Pack pieces does make for a good Baroness outfit. I'm satisfied for now, but still want those Occult textures from the Magic Pack!

Anyway, here's what I came up with for her:
And not much could really be done to my other Steampunk character that I forgot I had, but I tried:

2 quickies... both proving that you can hide every inch of skin with the new Steampunk set.
this one had the "Clunker: Trail" aura on set to blood red... sadly it looked like she was bleeding from under her dress... it was a nice touch of rage to the character, but not the rage I wanted.

I'm glad the Steampunk Pack has finally added a new and much-longed-for costume category: Backpack.
