Forum suggestion: Hide post count
Hiding post count wouldn't, losing forum titles...it wouldn't do anything to stop anything, other than possibly having people say high or low post count.
And really, it may be to late for some. They may already be known as having a high post count so the person who says such a thing could just mention it anyways.
Besides, as far as forum suggestions go, I'd rather see the person in charge of the Forum trying to lift some of the restrictions in the Comicbook section vs removing post count.
Used to be a lot more active in that part of the forums.

Sure, first you take away my stars, and then my post count. What's next, my avatar? Wait, where's my avatar?
The real problem is forum handles. Unique forum handles cause divisiveness, because they let people say "Arcanaville sux" and everyone knows they are referring to me.... |
When I read this thread earlier today, before running out, I was going to reply that we should have no forum handles.
We could all be anonymous posters of the community.

With proper moderation, we could be an ego-less forum community, only focused on the well-being of each other and the game as a whole!

If hiding the post count would make us behave better, then the theory that this is something we are "better than" has been empirically disproven.
Not all "divisions" are bad. Knowing whether people are experienced or not can be very useful. Not always in giving them free credibility; a stupid post from someone who's been posting for a long time is a lot more telling than the same post as someone's 3rd post.
Bah! Bring back the forum ratings.
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
*Arc #95278-Gathering the Four Winds -3 step arc; challenging - 5 Ratings/3 Stars (still working out the kinks)
*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars

Just because Memphis_Bill has a higher post count than me, doesn't mean people should be giving him credit for everything. After all, I found out about the DoT-amok thing also, and I might have even PMed the devs about it long ago. Just because Memphis_Bill has forum followers and time to post 2117 posts more than me, doesn't mean he knows more about the game than I do. Those extra 2117 posts translate to 35 more hours of time I've had to play City of Heroes or occasionally Angry Birds, and I've gotten really good at both playing Scrappers and avian physics in that time.
Its players like us that struggle in anonymity, ignored because of the bias that exists against people with humble post counts under 24,000, that struggle day in and day out to nerf all the fun out of the game, while meanies like Memphis_Bill take all the credit. Next time this happens, you tell them that Memphis_Bill is *not* the only person trying to ruin City of Heroes: he's just the one trying to steal all the fame for ruining City of Heroes. In fact, dare them to name one power Memphis_Bill personally got nerfed. I bet he can't even name one part of this game he personally destroyed, whereas I can name three. And that's not even counting the way I ruined Martial Arts and made that set unplayable. Sigh. Sometimes, it just doesn't seem worth it, trying to destroy the game while other people sit back and sweep up all the accolades. |

Bill, you're still here! *hug* Thought you'd vanished into the ether or something...
But to correct a slight misperception, I don't make ads for COH anymore. Music vids and stuff, yeah... but not ads. Besides, have you seen the Steampunk trailer?! No way I can compete with that.
Arcanaville, on the other hand, does what she does coz... she loves it? It's a challenge? The Doyenne of Digits remains ever a mystery to me.

The one thing I am still trying to figure out with the "Heavy Hitters" in the post count category, if you lets say are at 35,000 post as of today. How exactly does that equate?
For example, since CoH became live which was I think around April or May 2004 seven long years ago, there are 365 days in a year. If someone is at 35,000 posts that would mean if they averaged 1 post a day it would take them over 95 years to get to 35,000. Now if someone wanted to plant themselves by their computer and do lets say 14 posts a day over 7 years, then they might get there.
14 posts per day x 365 days in year x 7 years = 35,770 posts. Do these people really work for a living..heh..heh? What about those that were only on these forums for shorter than 7 years at 35,000 posts?
So, what exactly constitutes a posts? If someone starts a "new" post that would be 1 post. But when they reply to their own post does that count towards the number?

So, I write up, say, a guide to "How to cap debt as a Kheldian" that takes 10 posts. (I write them up ahead of time, btw, then paste them into the guide section.) That's 10 posts. I answer two questions that come up on there the day I post, as well as do my usual wandering through the forums... probably 15 posts, 20 posts. Regardless of if they're responding to my original topic-starting post or not.
An edit, of course, doesn't do anything to the post count.
(Actually, I'm mildly curious as to how many posts have gone into the guides I've put up. I've got 35 guides, if you search on them... most multiple posts long, and of course discussion and replies. )

Post counts, to me, can cause divisiveness within a Community and that's something that we, as a Community, are better than.
Not pulling the trigger on anything, but it's rattling about in the brainbox.
He also randomized the title levels, which had duplicates (so no telling if that "Guy in tights" was a new or old poster kinda thing but still allowed multiple titles.)
