The one person for whom giving away free game time and swag would not be a net marketing positive is probably me. Honestly, I don't even enter CoH contests because the worst possible thing that could happen is that I could win.

Instead, for every month of subscription time I'm awarded one free make-fun-of-the-powers-team's-tiny-monkey-brains token. And you better believe I'm not stockpiling those.

Hooray, post count thread. Usually these are posted by six-month noobs who think there's some kinda forum cartel. Bill is a great member of this community, so I'll check this thread out.

Post counts, to me, can cause divisiveness within a Community and that's something that we, as a Community, are better than.

Not pulling the trigger on anything, but it's rattling about in the brainbox.
Of course. Everyone knows it's your reg date, and how long you've been a participating member of the online community.

*sigh*

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

This kinda hearkens back to the whole "forum star" game.

I could live with that... Depends on the swag, though. Signed poster... t-shirt... comics... okay, that's worth a teaser, maybe a trailer. But if War Witch agreed to fork over one of those Arachnos flask things? Or those huge Arachnos banners we always see over Zwill's shoulder during the Ustream talks? NOW we're talking!

They have those? Oh, silly me, of course they do - it's another type of currency for the game.

My post count is significantly lower than it should be, I've been slacking for at least a year

I guess no one will listen to what I have to say, or follow my decisions!!! Oh Noes!

And here in the most recent server merge thread is someone who finds himself unable to dispute any of the reasons explaining why server merges are bad, so he resorts to attacking post counts and claims high post counts are a sign of anti-social behaviour.

Really, the only relevant data we have here is from psychology/sociology circles ; humans are social creatures and, save for a few rare cases, generally need to communicate.

So guess what the so-called soloer, low-pop loving crowd does to fulfill their social needs? They come on the boards and post thousands of times, including in topics against server merges. Meanwhile, people who socialize more ingame don't need more interaction and post less if at all, including of course in these topics.

If you do a search for server merge topics, you'll see that in action. The same forum names with thousands of posts replying against server merges, while the people being pro merges tend to be new names with at most hundreds of posts, and often lower than that.

While I personally have zero care about post count, I do dislike being governed by idiocy.
We'll never be free of things for people to point to wrongly.
Regardless, I'm not against removing post counts. I just always hate the whackamole game of idiot-proofing things!
(I do not believe this is a case of a slippery slope though, so don't take it that way)

//sees own post count
///ponders opinion towards server mergers

He'd have a point except for the fact that being part of a forum community is a social thing.

Be well, people of CoH.

Haha, I must commend you on the excellent job you do of hiding those three attributes!

That's one of the reasons I couldn't resist posting it over here.
