Smallville Finale
The whole idea behind the season was that to DS is able to bring Apokalips closer to earth because there is so much hopelessness in the world and it is the heroes, in particular, the red-blue blur, if he showed himself that can inspire the hope that is needed to win.
I'm sorry, but streaking by and then going further out of sight will not do that.
What they should have done is have the little Legion of Doom start rampaging through Metropolis and have the heroes fight them, eventually them getting pushed back against crowds of people...having the crowds beginning to turn on the heroes and the omega symbols start showing through the skin and their eyes going blacker... and then Superman drops in gives a quick speech and he along with the other heroes fight back the bad guys. Then have him give another speech about whats happening and how they're going to stop this. He guts cut off as the people's omega symbols vanish one by one during his speech and then the planet vanishes.
It's epic, does the inspiration thing right, and shows the journey to superman...not the destination, and wraps up an arc they missed.
The memory thing with Lex is lame as was the Supergirl leaving thing. They did it because they wanted to get it closer to canon... but why? You already have cloned luthor, Superboy, Clark and lois together, etc. There is no way you can make it match up and doing so just looks sloppy... and with the whole Lex thing it is bad writing. Let Lex know who Superman is... it makes no difference the stories surrounding him and Superman as he attacks Lois and Clark multiple times anyways... it actually makes more sense when you think that Lex knows Clark is Superman.
No Pete Ross = lame
The Chloe intro and outro with the comic was stupid and took a few minutes they could have done something else with.
The 7 years later thing with them not being married yet was stupid... especially with him calling her Miss Lane. Everyone already knows their a couple and were going to get married at the daily planet so it doesn't make any sense for them to be talking like that.
What would have been cool is to jump to the point in the future where we saw past Clarks PoV and instead seen Present Clark's PoV.
It seems to me that writers in hollywood down't know how to write open ended 3 act movie/episodes currently. Both the Smallville finale and Thor seemed incomplete and like we were missing the 3rd act... almost as if it was cut out after the fact. If I consider Smallville's Finale as incomplete... that we are missing the 3rd act it's a decent episode, but as a final episode missing the actual climax... it's trash.
the finale served its purpose, We got to see him fly.. put on the suit, accept being Superman.
People want a Movie block buster budget to do things that can typically only be done in movies.. in a TV show with a MUCH smaller budget is totally silly to use as a crutch to expect such things.
He pushed a planet.. they did the best they could, we also say him in space.. it was great.
The playing of the Superman Theme sealed it for me.

Fight my brute
SuperGirl - The apocalypse!? Better let Kal El handle it. See ya. No scratch that, you just won't see me again and you'll be worried sick thinking I've died.
Martha Kent - You should really speak to the ghost of your father.
Pa Kent - You need to embrace me so I can tell you to go see JorEl.
JorEl - You had the power to fly all the time, just click your heels three times...
Chloe - I saved you from gold kryptonite, now, time for me to go to Star City and apparently do nothing else.
Green Arrow - No matter how I fight the darkness, I lose, unless you tell me not to, Clark. Oh and check this out: Three magic arrows from no where to kill Darkseid lieutenants. lol.
Lois - blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Tess - As a trained assassin, I'll save Clark by killing Lex. Oh wait. No. By wiping his memory!
Lex - My memory is wiped and yet I become exactly like the archvillain I was going to be anyway.
League of Justice - We're with Aquaman talking to some fish.
Metallo - Last time I was on I was a friendly. Why is ToyMan including me in his legion of doom?
Clark - 10 years of emo identity angst relived in one episode.

It was like watching Godzilla, who could be 40 feet in one shot and 400 feet the next. Apokolips first showed up behind Saturn and bigger. To play a trick with perspective, you have to put the smaller object in front of the bigger one. So it goes from being a Saturn sized planet to barely moon sized.

Oh, and about Apokolypse? It left me feeling like Clark should have been collecting four stones and Mila.
But as for GAs triple shot take down of the minions it was foreshadowed and obvious. He got the bow of Orion and also the bit about how the power is not with the bow but the archer. Yes it would have been better if he had held the bow horizontal but compared to some of the other shots he has made that was insignificant.
Supergirl? She went to become a member of the Legion as was mentioned in past episodes. And that was considered as a spin off at some point. Who knows, if the CW feels the need for another supernatural (meaning greater then natural, not meaning the awesome series that follows Smallville) angsty teen drama perhaps they will revive the idea.

Take the Doomsday fight, or lack thereof, for instance. We get the buildup throughout the entire season that he's such a big bad. What happens? Relatively nothing for a final fight between Clark and DD. What was it? 30 seconds at best? And handled off-camera? Can't recall for sure, but it definitely wasn't even on par with the weakest fight scene in No Ordinary Family.
Granted, we aren't going to get the finale of JLU here in terms of fighting between Clark and Darkseid, but come on...
The problem is, that they build things up over the season and you expect some monster throwdown.

I liked it. I went in expecting a Smallville episode, and got a Smallville episode. No point raging over the fact that the perennial C student didn't make valedictorian. It is what it was.
Thankfully Jimmy Olsen had an identical 10 year younger identical twin of himself, with the same goals and aspirations in life.
None of this episode, or season made any sense. Endless knuckledragging, contribute-nothing crap bubbling until they play the John Williams theme and have him rip off his shirt (which did not look good, and incidentally, was just about the only shot of him in the suit that wasn't CGI).
Literally no element of this season made sense or was explained. Clark should be institutionalized for seeing his dead father all the time. What the hell hour waste of time with Lois breaking up with Clark on their wedding day, and the backwards wedding still going off without a hitch, without a wedding planner in the background screaming in frustration. Nice that Lex is back, scarred, out of no where, for no reason, becomes a total amnesiac, and then within 4 years, becomes the president. I could go on, but pizza is here.
About the only good thing I can say for it, is they addressed something I always see in comics/cartoons that has never made sense to me. When a character who can fly gets knocked back, why do they *always* continue in their trajectory until they smash into something? At least when Lionelseid (lol.) punches Clark back, he goes "Oh yeah, I don't have to smash the rest of the barn (lol.) and can stop my falling.

Next election is 2012. Then plus 4 years 2016, then plus 4 2020. Lex was elected as president in 2018 according to the TV report.
Hell, the fight scene between Jim and the Teleporter in NOF in the first epsiode was better. And that was the first ep! You'd expect something massive for the sendout of a 10-year series. But that's about par for the course for Smallville. Don't get me wrong, I've liked the series and have most of the seasons on DVD, but they could just as well put up a black screen saying, "And then they fought. Clark kicked his butt. The End".

If superman was suposed to cause inspiration in people to throw off the omegas and defeat darksied, then fine. However nothing in this episode would have done that. The final fight should have taken place on the street in front of people, news cameras etc. Been essentially a world wide expereince through 24 hour news channels and such. Had superman and DS basicly beating the crap out of each other to no avail, having neither of them really winning. Finally superman offers to sacrifice himself if darksied leaves earth alone. (much like he offered himself up to Ollie to do"The right thing") This willingness breaks the omegas lessening darksieds powers giving clark the advantage to then trown darkS back to apokolipse and allowing him to push the planet back away.
Atleast that would have made sense. Even if was an abreviated fight. The problem is the smallville writers suck. They cant write a series that elludes to sacrifice or bravery, they have to bat you over the head with the themes in long drowning speeches about it and then drop the ball when it comes time to portray it.
To bad they should have gone to see a preview of thor quicker, thor v the destroyer was much more a better example or writing and story telling that smallville was going for then they did with 10 years of lead in time.
I'm just going to imagine that the final 15 mins of Smallville was a combination of the end of the Apokolips Now arc of Superman:TAS and the fight with Darkseid at the end of JLU.

Hey all, just a quick two-cents to drop off here. I haven't seen the last two weeks worth of episodes but they're saved on the DVR and I'm thinking of last week's "power switch" for tonight, and the finale for tomorrow.
I can't say I'm surprised at a lot of the comment's about the strong ending petering out to a lame ending. I too have watched "Smallville" from season one on, have seen some good...and a LOT of not so good...but frankly I think the show's overstayed its welcome by at LEAST three years.
Bon voyage, "Smallville". For both good AND ill, you've added to Superman's legend. Respect, yo.

Did anyone honestly believe there was going to be some awesome special effects considering everything that came before on this show?
I'm not even sure if Welling was actually ever in "the costume". It was either headshots, blurs, long distance shots, overly backlit shots topping with a quick pan and dissolve to a comicbook page. And the final scene ripping open the shirt to reveal the S doesn't count.
The only good thing it had was the JW theme. At least they had that.

It's true that the fight scene was completely lame. Almost every Smallville fight scene has been lame. But it could have been worse. If it had been handled by the Heroes crew the barn doors would have slammed shut and bright light would have shot out between all the boards. Cut to next scene.

Ya Lionel and Lex made this series watchable, most of the rest was poorly handled.
I am an ebil markeeter and will steal your moneiz ...correction stole your moneiz. I support keeping the poor down because it is impossible to make moneiz in this game.
Just caught some of it on youtube. Glad I was never a big fan of the show, but at the end with the classic music and Clark heading to the roof to change into the suit brought back nice memories of Superman 1 and 2.

Hmmm...alls I can say is there has been ten second sex that was less of a let down then the Supes/DarkLionel fight scene.
