Strong start and we get the lame finish. well, par for the course really with this series. still, crap as the ending was, they did use some of the john williams theme and it was beyond awesome having Schneider and Rosenbaum back on the show, the scenes with Pa Kent and Lex almost make the meh-tacular ending worth it. Almost.

Now it's time to wait another five years before we get another live action Superman-based TV show. With any luck, the CW will be dead and buried by then.

I'm not going to be a total downer because me and my wife used to never miss an episode (we'd sing the theme w/ glee when it came on) until around the writers strike, and ten years is a milestone, it is however on the CW.
The CW..

But gratz on the run SV.

Champion.

We just coded it on a simple X-currentDate formula, so it nerfs itself automatically. -Babs on Accuracy Nerfs

Terrible finale. Big build up for a lame climax. The usual for this series. Such potential and it was never realized. The only cool part was the very end with the music... the classic Superman theme...it gets you going. Other than that the show's climax was horrid.

Disappointing.

We didn't even get any epic shots of Superman pushing Apokolips away from Earth. And we didn't even get to see a decent full-body shot of him suited up.

Well, it's obvious how much Rosenbaum made the show. When he was on screen the show came alive again. I mean it wasn't totally horrible when he wasn't there but he was the strongest presence.

Hearing the theme was awesome. I would have liked to at least see a guest appearance by Pete.

Was it me or was Apokolips' sizing inconsistent? And boo, Darkseid went down like a chump.

60% talk, 40% commercials, 10% action. Sigh.

"I'mma put on this suit, with the nice bright colours, see? Then I'mma show my face to the world and inspire everyone to fight the darkness! They'll see my big 'S' and know it's the Blur saving them, only Lois will tell them to start calling me 'Superman'!"

"On second thought, I'mma fly by superfast, push Apokolips away in less than 5 seconds and not let anyone see me as more than a streak in the sky. But they'll be inspired anyways."

I was really hoping to be wrong. But ya 10 second fight with Dark Sied, or the embodiment of DS, so honestly even faster then the doomsday fight, unless you count the 10 minutes he spent frozen in the air having the flashback. And im sorry but really... I mean REALLY were gonna go with pushing a planet away? And lets not get into the idea of 3 arrows stacked on top of each other vertically all going horizontally at a different angle. I mean could you seriously not alteast have thought to have him holding the bow sideways like a gansta?

Seeing lex again was kinda cool, however doing a mind wipe with magic juice not so cool and infact really IMO ruined the whole thing. About the only thing that made the CGI of superman look good was the comparison to the Darksied animations but really all the cgi in this episode was pretty terrible. And i guess just call me crazy but the omega symbols and everyones heads was causing a gravitational pull of the planet?? That is the ******* retardest thing i have ever seen from this show and that is saying alot. Then on top of that even with that we can simply push the planet away before we break the spell of all the omegas?

I mean seriously if BSG's ditching technology felt like being violated with a handle of a baseball bat, Smallville just turned it around to use the big end.

Whats really funny is I am subscribed to another forum with a thread about the Smallville finale and as I am reading both I have this one where everyone seems to have hated it... the other thread everyone loved this episode.

The above sums up my feelings pretty well. I agree with some of the issues people have mentioned here and felt like it could have been a way better send off. That said I can still appreciate what was in the finale considering this wasn't a show about superman it was a show about him becoming superman. Looking at it that way the ending stopped at just the right point. If that show was about the journey and not the destination than thats what the finale gave us imo.

*one final thought the special effects were terrible no matter how you look at it lol*

There was a bit of inconsistency with the suit as well. Well the size of the shield and the neckline, anyways.
In the Fortress the shiels is rather small and, yeah looked like the one from Superman Returns. And the neckline went almost up to his chin/cheeks.
In the final scene where he's pulling his shirt open, the shield is quite a bit larger (much like it appears in the comics) and the neckline was also a lot lower. I liked what we saw of the final suit much better.

You know what, ya boo sucks to all the naysayers, I bloody loved it

Yeah, it wasn't without it's flaws, the mind-wipe of Lex had to be done, but could have been done better, for instance.

But Seeing him put on the suit, the new ability to fly, the handing over of the suit, him stopping the psuedo-Darkseid in Lionel, the music, the inspiration......all of it, I loved it

And honestly, given what the series was about, his journey across ten years to BECOME Superman, I never expected a big battle with Darkseid himself, that's a job for Superman, not him in his tux. That's the sort of thing I want to see with a big budget on the big screen, this did what I epxected it to.

And come on, the man pushed away a freaking PLANET!! Can you get more Superman than that??

His journey, the storyline of the series, was all about him becoming the symbol that inspires people, that's what Superman has been about for so long. You want darkness and brooding and fights, go watch Batman, this did what I wanted it to and I loved it all

To be fair, it was 7 years later, it's conceiveable it's changed, after all, how many times did he get it damaged in battles over his career?

I think a lot of the "haters" don't fully understand what Smallville was about. It was never about Superman, it was about Clark Kent's learning experiances leading up to becoming a superMAN.

The writers all said this wasn't so much an ending as a hand off to the future of the canon. With that in mind, the perceived lack of action in the series as a whole, the finale in specific is true to the vision of what Smallville is/was.

I for one loved the finale, loved the series as a whole. Sure there were some real duds, and some dud seasons, but as a whole, great series for a Superman geek like myself.

Final thought, wonder if they could get 10 seasons following the adventures of Bruce Wayne prior to him becoming Batman?

It was like watching Godzilla, who could be 40 feet in one shot and 400 feet the next. Apokolips first showed up behind Saturn and bigger. To play a trick with perspective, you have to put the smaller object in front of the bigger one. So it goes from being a Saturn sized planet to barely moon sized.

Anyway, I have no complaints about the episode and I thought it to be a good, appropriate finale. I wasn't wowed by it but the show has never really wowed me to begin with, it was always, for me "good enough", which is how I'd ultimately rate the finale - "good enough".

I was sad Tess died - to me she was one of the more interesting, conflicting characters - but she doesn't really exist in the Superman/Lex story arc so it was fitting that she died (at least wiping Lex's memory.)

Very sad that the show ended and also very sad that their wasn't atleast a hint an upcoming spin off such as "metropolis". Perhaps one day... But only if they get Tom to play as superman again and Michael to keep playing as Lex even if it's with the bald cap.
