This looks like the right place to make an aura suggestion.
In pondering a question raised in another thread, namely "What does a psychic look like?" I had an inspiration: If you modified the existing Tarot Card Aura (origin pack) into a Zener Card Aura then that would perfectly project the idea of "psychic" without compromising any particular origin that might be the source of the powers.
Zener Cards are the symbol cards from a few decades ago that were used for attempting to prove the existence of ESP, telepathy, what-have-you. They look like this:
Granted they're a bit old-fashioned nowadays but I think they're still easily recognized as something associated with ESP and psychic awareness. Then again, maybe I'm just showing my age. *laugh*

What kind of things would I like to see FX wise? Two things! Barrier Auras and a revamp to Inspiration usage effects!
I REALLY liked the look of the Victorian Decor aura not just because of the pattern but because of the way it's overlaid like some sort of shaped forcefield around the body. There should be more auras like this, maybe tech themed ones with beehive barriers and magical ones with runes. And depending on the way it looks, some tinted bubble auras would be a pretty good neutral one as well.
And Inspiration FX, for many years we've had the simple, traditional coloured light from our character's heads whenever we pop an inspiration, but I feel with the effects of today, inspirations could do with some cool effects. Funnily enough I had a CoH related dream about this very idea. I would think that each inspiration type would have it's own visual effects to differentiate itself outside of colour.
Maybe some upward flowing, swirling light-trials from the ground up for health and endurance recovery, signifying raised vitality?
An outward burst effect for Rage, much like a release of power or emotion?. A prominent 'star-wink' around the eye for Insight to show the character gaining 'insight' into an enemy's weakness "Aaahh...!"?
And for Sturdy/Luck? Why not give those shaped auras a try to create some kind of armour-looking FX for Sturdy and maybe ripples for Luck?
Break frees could be a another shaped aura that expands outwards signifying you breaking free of anything holding you. The only inspiration I think is okay how is it in the Awaken line of inspirations.

Please the more auras I unlock the more I need the option to customize or turn off FX for travel powers.
Also, I wish the speed power pool got some of the awesome FX of time manipulation and burnout. Is like they were not part of the same power pool, because of the old FX of hasten, superspeed, etc...
And I think afterburner FX need to be toned down, I find it annoying to see all that hurly thing going on all time, I find it annoying to look at. And I really like the effect, but I think should be toned down.
Please, tell us Power pool customization is in the works, the more cool stuff we get, the more I need it to happen.
Also, congrats to the VFX team to that AWESOME orange sky in First Ward.

Hasten is still an eyesore. Please change the FX, or give us a few different FX to chose from. Keep the fire, but give us the option Electricity, a blure, smoke, shoot, about any aura we have could be used as an option.
Before they said there was no way to do it, but with the incarnate powers it seems there was a way found to do it. Just don't allow the pool to appear in the creator till it is chosen as a power.

I'd also like to request the reverse - aura weapons. That is, weapons made out of just auras, or auras with a transparent base model, like the various Fire Swords. That would be a lot of fun, even if using a fire sword with Broadsword doesn't cause fire damage.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

I posted this in the super booster thread but it would I believe fit here as well.
An idea I have, but one sure from which area post animation or Art, so posted here, is some head orientation similar to the crest of a bird that would lay looking like hair, and would activate raising the alert during combat. This would operate on the same cues to the combat auras. Some other variations of this but I would like would be single row spikes order a triple row spikes running from the head down the spine and if possible along the top of the tail it also Leigh fairly flat looking like some sort of design and stand up during combat, or another idea would be a hood like a cobra that would lay looking similar to the Egyptian hood only less prooffy it would also raise during combat like a cobra does in real life. can I know it's been mentioned elsewhere but I thought of mentioning here and cast my vote is for snakes for hair like Medusa. It would be best if these could be animated so you while idle this makes it continue move in combat you started the the snakes could strike in hits snapping at the opponents .More than one coloration a snake would be cool for instance some of the coloration of a coral snake or Green snake I'm sure you find many other options for awesome looking snake patterns for the snakes. images she has a rattlesnake tail but I mention it is this another custom element I would like it could also have a combat type mode or changed its animation rattling combat. A similar one of the snakes for hair Medusa hair they could use the same or very close wireframe with a different skin would be to make tentacle hair that would move and just as the snake snap and hiss during combat the tentacles could in you out.
I just wanted to say, I absolutely LOVE the pixels aura. It goes perfectly with my hard-light hologram character Avatari (avatar + atari) who never leaves AE.

Booster Sets Ideas many of which contain FX.
I think booster sets that build on one another sets should; add new functionality, add a new power or ability, new signature moves or animation, emotes , new costume change effects, and add new costume elements, possibly some in new aura effects.
some ideas I head fore sets are as fallows and I will go more in to detail as I can. Though I can see a lot of areas where sets could cross or even overlap.

Animalistic types; The Furred "the malmoles arise", The Feathered, The Reptiles, The insect invasion "beware the swarm", The oceans revenge,There is a lot of room for inspiration within the animal kingdom.
I have to admit when I heard that the new mutant booster pack was going to include bioluminescence the ideas I came up with were far different from what I saw when I got the booster. Though I'm not displeased with the booster there some features I had imagined it might be good for a subsequent booster pack possibly a luminescent booster pack. Considered the ideal bioluminescence I had thought of the idea working that when you've selected your colors for an aspect of your costume you could check whether not you wanted to have it luminescent or not and then use a slider bar off to the side fit would give you the ability two set the level luminosity he wished or how bright it should be, what this could possibly be achieved by setting some sort of bleed for the various colors that were selected to be luminescent and adjustment to bleed out from the color area creating the effect, this would also allow are people do things such as dark light as opposed to just the right colors.
A similar slider could be done to give the optional opacity allowing something to be translucent rather than always being opaque if does they will be done for various costume pieces for single color within the costume and peace that a lot of variability to costumes as well as making some existing costumes to the skin through or a shear costume effect.
I did have some ideas for things could be added as elements to some these various set ideas.
For luminosity booster pack I thought the luminosity slider bar option would be a nice addition, as for powers I thought a power borrowing some from the idea of the Angler Fish, which is a deep-sea fish which uses a bioluminescent lure to entice pray into a place where he can get them. I thought this could translate to gameplay with the bio luminescent booster pack would the effect of essentially creating a lighted spot on the wall or floor which could be used to different ways if done a away from your location could help lure enemies away thereby freeing the player the ability to sync by, or it could be used as a taunt to bring the enemies forward into a trap. A new aura for the is set could be fireflies. Here are some picts of bio luminescent animals and some tech images.
For Elemental booster pack I thought the slider bar for opacity like the one for luminosity would be a nice addition with this set. Having a opacity slider bar would allow for creating effects for this set like an translucent Ice or gem look, if the previous luminosity had been they could be used to they could be used to create additional effects like magma or some sort of glowing mystical crystal, because we used to heighten the abilities with other set types if they were a global effect tied two individual colors within the costume creating glowing or translucent effects on other custom types. Some other costume type elemental ideas that I can think of would be fiery wings like those you see during the use of the power rise of the Phoenix. A couple of custum color maps for the Stome look could give the ability to look like it has a molten core.
I thought the insect booster would be a good place to introduce some color effects they could also be global though they might be problematic in the way of a programming nightmare I don't think they be too much more problematic than the others just party made for luminosity and opacity, this would be with the introduction of the insect booster would be some metallic or iridescent color options I'll provide some pictures but this could also give the effect to smother costumes of having an oil slick tight finish depend on how it was was done.
I thought a power to come with amphibian type booster would be poisonous skin it's effect would essence create a feedback on inning melee damage done to the character in essence if someone touched the characters they would take some damage as well this is not affect abilities that were arranged.

Everyone in the studio has been incredibly busy preparing for the launch of Freedom, and I haven't had much time to post in the forums. Thank you very much for continuing to post your suggestions! Finding time to post can be hard, but the FX team always actively reads this thread.
Before they said there was no way to do it (pool powers customization), but with the incarnate powers it seems there was a way found to do it. Just don't allow the pool to appear in the creator till it is chosen as a power.

Most importantly, this isn’t a task that requires only FX time. To implement these options into the powers customization screen, we need UI and code time. It’s true that we’ve already added an additional heading to this screen for Incarnate powers, but that was just one heading. We will need to add several headings to the powers customization screen to implement pool powers customization. And by several, I mean more than the screen can currently support. We also need code to help us address the question of whether all of the possible ancillary, patron and regular pools are visible in the screen at character creation, or whether they are added later in the game as you choose your powers. The first option will require code time, and the second option will require more code time. Then we'll need a UI artist to revise the powers screen and make sure it's as readable and attractive as possible.
I know some of you are really dying for an update on the state of pool powers customization. Being one of many people necessary for this feature, I'm not the best person to share this information. When and if there is solid information, we'll make an announcement.

Glow Tech Chest Emblems, similar to the flat plain ones but with glow FX, some could potentially be animated too as per the Victoriana aura.

As for an FX suppression slider, are you talking about changing the opacity of your powers? Or something that suppresses other players' effects beyond what the Max Particle Count graphics option can do?
As far as opacity goes, you can actually achieve more transparent effects by selecting darker colors. (This works best with Bright palettes.) I've seen suggestions for an opacity slider for powers before, but I think choosing darker tones addresses this request fairly well.
If you're talking about the suppression of other players' or unnecessary effects, then this is something we're looking into.

Finally, I see there may be some confusion between character art and effects requests. Effects mainly cover things like powers, auras, costume changes, and the like. They do not include things like the bioluminescent glows introduced in the Mutant Pack, shaders or animated costume pieces. This is also not the best place to propose themes for booster packs or suggest character animations. These requests are outside my field and I'm not the best person to provide information on them. Please post these suggestions in the appropriate "All Things Art" threads so the right people can see them!
Anyway, it's great to see that this thread still lives. Thanks again for all your thoughts and ideas. I'll do my best to drop by more frequently!

Sure, there's no good reason why they should be excluded. Can't promise you a date, but I'll definitely mention this when we get some time to do more emotes.

THAT is what matters.
I know that some redname has commented on this before, but since then, a lot of things have changed. Would it be possible to give ALL defensive sets a "Minimal Effects (except in PVP)" setting? With the number of auras that are available now, and many of them being available at level 1, and ways both now and in Freedom to unlock them ALL at level 1, we can often find something that we like better than the default appearance. In addition, for people (like myself) with, frankly, pretty crappy systems, the layered auras of things like Fire and Dark can cause ridiculous amounts of lag.
I'd also like to see "No Fade or Pulse" options for all stealth effects.

I actually have a request that I've wanted since I started playing this game.
I finally mentioned it in a thread somewhat recently and I was very surprised to see that I was far from the only person that desired this.
It's about removing effects though (which I sometimes feel sad about asking FX artists about!!):
The floating, circling symbols that appear from using inspirations and certain power effects (The purple shields for defense buffs, the red blood-like drops for damage, the yellow reticules for accuracy buffs, and so on... including those visuals from the Leadership Power Pools)...
We hateses them!! They burn!! Nasty, nasty symbolses... ruin screenshots... ruin nice immersionses... we hateses them! Purple shields stole my preciousss...
Ahem... Hehe, seriously though, I've always felt like those effects just ruin my visual immersion in this game.
Everything looks so damn great and I enjoy playing and losing myself in this game. All the effects are there from the powers themselves, visually represented quite well... but then these damn floating, spinning icons dance around... I would so very much love an option to shut them off on my client.
I don't need to see them, I keep an eye on the icons under my health bar (nice and out of the way, to be checked peripherally).
And they ruin what could be wonderful screenshots... Can't tell you how many times I try and grab a nice action screenshot just for it to look lame because of a bunch of floating symbols around all of our characters because someone has Leadership Powers or because the battle was so tough we popped a bunch of inspirations, and so on and so forth...
Okay, did I go on too much about this, hehe?
I'll just add that I avoid using inspirations because of those effects! I delete them and/or combine them to make greens and blues, ones that don't leave symbols dancing around my character!
I love effects and art and want to offer you fun ideas for more fun and cool effects... but, seriously, this is something I would absolutely LOVE to... not see!
Bah... haha, I realize this is more of a coding concern, but... I figured your department may have an interest and/or be an influence in the matter.

Not sure if this is even possible without new tech, or if it would even fall under the scope of FX, but is there a way to get power customization options for the various archery sets that will allow us to change the color of the arrows? My ninja MM has a hard time feeling like a stealthy ninja with the bright yellow fletching on the arrows.
